Drinker's Chasers - That Disastrous Superman Reveal

Ойын-сауық

James Gunn's first official image of his new Superman didn't exactly go down well with fans. In fact, its become the object of mockery throughout the internet. But is it simply a misunderstood take, or does it point to bigger problems with Gunn's DCU?

In that pile of garbage that was the Justice League movie, there was a glimpse of what could've been. It was definitely not something that came from Snyder. For all his flaws, Joss Whedon could've given us a Superman that brings hope. In the wrong hands, even diamonds turn to sht.

He did. I mean, in his first flight, in MoS, he was almost crying he was so happy. He was also cracking wise, later in the film. In BvS, after he saved the girl from the fire, he smiled at her parents. Those are just a few examples. There were others.

Gunn has always had an issue with taste. He has niche humor to put it lightly and often his tastes are not what the general audience likes. GotG is an outlier because of Disney/Marvel Studios reigning him in. I thought his The Suicide Squad, without oversight, had significant issues with the humor and characterization of many characters. When it comes to DC movies, lots of people thought Keaton's Batman would suck, Heath ledger would not be convincing as Joker and no one will ever top Jack Nicholson as the best live action J (until that infamous first picture dropped and everyone got excited), and who else... I know that Nolan's Bane became a biiiit of a meme these last few years (his treatment in the Harley Quinn show was a nice way to get in the joke so to speak), but he's still been a pretty liked character for years... more than expected when Tom Hardy was announced. Everyone expected a huge dude, I mean obviously Tom is pretty damn big but it's still Bane we're talking about. i thought they made a better Bane in the show *Gotham* 5th's season, played by Shane West. Definitely worth a watch, that last season is kinda controversial in the fandom but no one can deny that it's an entertaining one.

The depiction of Superman in this photo seems to portray him as a reluctant and a sad character. DC already has a dark and brooding hero. His name is Batman. To morph Superman into a morose character simply makes him redundant. There is a reason, nearly 50 years since Christopher Reeve first donned the tights, that people still look so fondly on his portrayal of Superman. He represented the exact antithesis of this cynicism. It is time that DC recapture the optimism that Reeve so fully embodied when they portray Superman.

Why is the director of the film making PR decisions? Don't the film studios have people that handle that? It's confusing. On one hand James Gunn wants to start the DC movies from scratch with new actors and on the other leaves some aspects of other previous series and movies like "Peacemaker". At this point he could leave Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and just make a good-proper-true Superman movie.

Many, many years ago I always said they should make a "World's Finest" style Superman/Batman movie that takes place in the 40's and has a very optimistic (and cheesy) tone, where Supes and Bats call each other "Chap" or something. Jon Hamm as Supes, and Michael Fassbender as Bats, both bulking up 25-30 pounds of muscle for the role.

I love this picture i see so much good stuff here. 1. You can tell he has been in a fight, he is tired, weary, maybe hurt and looks even a little on edge/worried and yet there is a threat and the world needs him so he is putting the boots back on to be the world the hero needs. ther is nothing more superman then that. 2. I love the outfit it is incorpurating the shoulder cape, the henry cavel waffle pattern, a little bit of injustice, the shoulder pads are sick. (PS) James Gun said there is no padding he actully got in good shape for this film. 3.I love the threat in the background looks like a real enemy of the city, maybe braniac?

The very worst thing this movie could be is a Superman origin story. If DC is finally serious about making a cinematic universe, it has to be an origin story for a cinematic universe. Superman is perfect, since you can do his origin story with a montage, and drop right into setting up this universe and its stakes.

I mean, at least he has the curl and the red trunks, but I desperately wanted a more traditional costume, like Brandon Routh's suits. Peacemaker looks comic accurate, Supes should, too. Almost makes me think they wanna tie it into Pattinson's Batman, since that also goes for a more "realistic" look.
