No. That's not how it works. The Hobbit movies were far too Hollywoody, the stuff they added didn't feel organic and Jackson loves CGI far too much. They are not horrible - just nowhere as good as the LOTR.

To be fair Hobbit was quite bad, yet "magic" of LotR world still kinda was there more often than not. Rings of Power somehow so shamefully unconvincing and corny that it can pass for bad parody show. Like, those dialogues writing is porn parody level with joke part removed, if not worse

I find it so odd that so many of the writers/cast of the Rings of Power openly admit they didn't like Tolkein or his writing. Imagine a bunch of men directing the next Barbie movie, where they openly admit they hated barbies and never played with them. It would be such an odd thing to do. Yet here we are, with Amazon giving us more "content" that nobody wants, written and acted by people who don't like the source material, who don't understand the source material, and where they have a disdain of the man who created it all. Surely we are living in an episode of the Twilight Zone now. How could billion dollar companies be so braindead about all of this.

There’s a clip where guyladrial is being bullied as a child and the kids astutely say to her and her “paper” boat that it’s not going to float. She says: “it’s not going to float it’s going to sail.” Little platoon noticing that the boat has no sails: idk how it’s going to do that because it doesn’t have any sails. More a general Hollywood comment, rather than something specific to RoP. I watch 12 Angry Men last night and realized just how uninspired modern Hollywood is when it comes to dialogue. This was a great movie that was just 12 guys in a room talking. It was full of drama, suspense, emotion, etc. It's notable that most of the actors in the movie were people you saw in TV and movies all the time from the 50's to the 80's. I think of movies I grew up with from the 70's to the 90's and there's so much great dialogue I can quote. There's very little from the past two decades that's memorable. For all the Marvel success, how much has entered the popular consciousness? Where are lines like "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.", "We're gonna need a bigger boat.", or "I am your father." Hell, I remember more for low budget horror/scifi/comedy "Night of the Creeps" than anything from this century.

The sad part about the whole "alloy" thing is that there was an easy fix for it: Have Celebrimbor suggesting alloying first and then show him trying different metals in different combinations. And make him nervous and frustrated about millions of possible variants to comb through and not enough mithril to brute-force his way. And then get Sauron (who is canonically only two steps away from the god himself and thus is orders of magnitude smarter than Celebrimbor) wander into the forge, "accidentally" arrange correct metals in correct proportions on the table and then "clumsily" drop those into a crucible. Sauron gets kicked out by Celebrimbor, but leaves enough clues for him to proceed as if on his own.

I think it would be more interesting if Sauron is pouring part of his being into these rings so they can halt the decay or aging of the world, in order to trick the elves into bonding their power to them. That could save why mithril is just a metal in the LOTR continuity, with the shirt-armature for Frodo.

Tolkien was by far masterful when it comes to the high sounding dialogue! Let's take the example of the conversation of Finrod and Andreth: "All ye Elves deem that we die swiftly by our true kind. That we are brittle and brief, and ye are strong and lasting. We may be "Children of Eru," as ye say in your lore; but we are children to you also: to be loved a little maybe, and yet creatures of less worth, upon whom ye may look down from the height of your power and your knowledge, with a smile, or with pity, or with a shaking of heads.' 'Alas, you speak near the truth,' said Finrod. 'At least of many of my people; but not of all, and certainly not of me. But consider this well, Andreth, when we name you "Children of Eru" we do not speak lightly; for that name we do not utter ever in jest or without full intent. When we speak so, we speak out of knowledge, not out of mere Elvish lore; and we proclaim that ye are our kin, in a kinship far closer (both of hröa and fëa) than that which binds together all other creatures of Arda, and ourselves to them. 'Other creatures also in Middle-earth we love in their measure and kind: the beasts and birds who are our friends, the trees, and even the fair flowers that pass more swiftly than Men. Their passing we regret; but believe it to be a part of their nature, as much as are their shapes or their hues. 'But for you, who are our nearer kin, our regret is far greater. Yet, if we consider the briefness of life in all Middle-earth, must we not believe that your brevity is also part of your nature? Do not your own people believe this too? And yet from your words and their bitterness I guess that you think that we err.' 'I think that you err, and all who think likewise,' said Andreth; 'and that that error itself comes of the Shadow. But to speak of Men. Some will say this and some that; but most, thinking little, will ever hold that what is in their brief span in the world has ever been so, and shall so ever remain," ... "Then Finrod was silent; but after a while he said: 'These words are strange and terrible. And you speak with the bitterness of one whose pride has been humiliated, and seeks therefore to wound those to whom she speaks. If all the Wise among Men speak so, then well I can believe that ye have suffered some great hurt. But not by my people, Andreth, nor by any of the Quendi. If we are as we are, and ye are as we find you, that is not by any deed of ours, nor of our desire; and your sorrow does not rejoice us nor feed our pride. One only would say otherwise: that Enemy whom you do not name. 'Beware of the chaff with your corn, Andreth! For it may be deadly: lies of the Enemy that out of envy will breed hate. Not all the voices that come out of the darkness speak truth to those minds that listen for strange news. Yeah there is a lot of great almost philsophical sounding dialogue of Tolkien's authorship! But these morons at amazon don't have the rights to use any of it! This also brings in mind the conversation of Amandil and Elendil in the Akallabeth: "And Amandil ... was dismayed and filled with a great dread, for he knew that Men could not vanquish the Valar in war, and that ruin must come upon the world, if this war were not stayed. Therefore he called his son, Elendil, and he said to him: 'The days are dark, and there is no hope for Men, for the Faithful are few. Therefore I am minded to try that counsel which our forefather Eärendil took of old, to sail into the West..., and to speak to the Valar, even to Manwë himself, if may be, and beseech his aid ere all is lost.' 'Would you then betray the King?' said Elendil. 'For you know well the charge that they make against us, that we are traitors and spies, and that until this day it has been false.' 'If I thought that Manwë needed such a messenger,' said Amandil, 'I would betray the King. For there is but one loyalty from which no man can be absolved in heart for any cause. But it is for mercy upon Men and their deliverance from Sauron the Deceiver that I would plead, since some at least have remained faithful. And as for the Ban, I will suffer in myself the penalty, lest all my people should become guilty.'" The Silmarillion, Akallabêth This is the example of Tolkien's dialogue!

It's a reminder of the depths Tolkien went in thought, that Andreth states a view that the idea that 'humans dying quickly comes from Evil.' It's also something that would never be set aside to continue the discussion with 'modern' writers at the helm. The moment a character disagrees with another in the slightest, they have to have it out. (which I imagine is a feature of any conversation the writers are in, and makes them impossible to have discussions with.)

Read Ursula K. LeGuin's essay on fantasy dialogue and prose, "From Elfland to Poughkeepsie". It's an amazing study of why fantasy dialogue (and prose) is different from modern dialogue (and prose), and whenever a writer who doesn't understand this attempts to write fantasy, it rings hollow. This is why so many writers give up and simply use modern diction and idioms, which often sound hopelessly dull (and can be transplanted right back into a police procedure novel, or an episode of Law and Order.) The writers of this show clearly did not do the assignment. This is how I know they're not real writers; they're just "winging it" and hoping no one notices. It's laughable.
