Chris Hemsworth isn’t responsible for Thor Love And Thunder only getting moderate success. I personally blame Taika Waititi since he’s the one who wrote and directed the movie.

The problem with Love and Thunder is they put to much comedy into a story with a darker tone and darker enemy. They should have kept the comedy at the start when still with the Guardian's and then gone into serious mode once they left.

Exactly. Ragnarok worked because the serious moments and the comedic ones had room to breathe, like you see the more comical aspects but those are mostly a veneer for the darker story. Like Hela killing the Warriors Three, breaking Mjolnir, blinding Thor, the Loki stuff, it was just great underlying drama.

Funny you mention that, because I've always felt that, given the example Infinity War set, the fourth Thor film could've ended in a cliffhanger, with Love & Thunder being the fifth film. Gorr could've been a Thanos-level villain (specifically for Gods), and Jane's re-introduction in the fifth film would've given her more glory. Instead, they both got crammed in to one and I think both were underserved.

No. Chris Hemsworth we love you bro. He is such a naturally funny and charismatic person, but that is the key to acting, becoming someone different without effort. He can do that. People love Thor Ragnarok but if you look at it closely, it follows the story beats of the first Thor. That is the Thor we need to get back to. Those are the roots that were lost.

The process of making a movie is way more impacted by director-producer dynamics than an actor. There is NO WAY that Hemsworth's improv is the main reason for the wimsicle nature of the movie. Its many producers, the director and test audiences that will determine this. We know they watched the movie many times before release and they could do reshoots. Its big of Chris to take the fall for it, but at the same time its total BS.

You can see in his acting roles that Taika Waititi is the type of actor who does a lot of improv, like in Free Guy (am I right). But ultimately as a director it’s your responsibility to bring your vision to the screen and if the actor is getting carried away with improv then it’s the directors responsibility to rein it in.

Thor Love and Thunder suffered from what most comedy sequels suffer from. The previous movie has a good balance of being comedic and serious, then in the next movie, they go full on comedic to the point where it's just too stupid and there's no balance. Reminds me of what they did to Dr Evil in Austin Powers.

In Thor5, if they gave us a more serious take on some of the same events, it could "fix" things. I mean, it was funny. I did laugh a lot. Was it an epic movie? Hell no, but I mean, I laughed my ass off at a lot of it, so I don't know.. I don't think it deserves any hate. That being said, I do hope that Thor 5 gets more serious. Thor from IW was probably my favorite. Powerful af, serious when it was needed and also comedic when needed.

That said, I feel like if either Hemsworth or Taika reigned the goofiness in juuuuuust a bit, it would’ve done that movie’s reputation wonders.

I think is an interesting contrast to a character like Loki. Both Tom and Chris have been playing these characters for a over a decade. At that point, they should, to a point and writing aside, be custodian of said character. I think Chris dropped the ball in that department. He allowed Thor to be turned into a punching bag for jokes and improv. Tom, got a chance to not only do something completely different with Loki, but still expand, grow and stay true to the character, even suggesting the last line, that was a direct reference to the first Thor film. I think there are quite a few actors in the MCU, that need to protect their characters, because if what happened to Thor and Captain Marvel is what is waiting for us, then maybe is time to move on.

It wasn't a horrible movie, but yeah a little too silly for Thor. It needed some better editing and much more Gorr. Bob Chapek ruined that movie. I want to see the Taika cut. However, after all Thor went through and all the loss, I could see him wanting to be more zen and wanting to laugh and be silly. It's like a therapeutic coping mechanism for him. But yes, bring back strong BA Thor with some metal! 🤘🏻

As i recall the first article i read about Hemsworth being unsatisfied with Thor love and thunder he was blaming the director without really mentioning his name,he called him(a so called)genius. There was then some reports that the director didn't really care for Thor.People might have loved Thor 3 but remember that Thor 2 was a very poorly done film in many people's perception so it didn't take much to follow it up with a better Thor film. Also they killed alot of important characters in Thor 3 giving the impression that the director didn't really care about these characters. The button line is that Thor love and thunder was a success and Hemsworth got a good paycheck. The bar was set pretty low for Thor 4.Won't be difficult to make Thor 5 a better movie but i don't have high hopes at this time.

You know about the comic-book Thor as much as Taika Waititi or Chris Hemsworth do. In the comics Thor is an intellegent and thoughtful person, with a heart of gold and a verbiage of a poet. Jesus, read some comics, please. Jay Michael Straczynski run would be a good start. Thor is not a one-note character and never was.

I say Marvel Studios will do one more Thor film, as a "make up" for Love And Thunder. Hemsworth takes a lot of pride in the series, and he doesn't want L&T to be how Thor goes out.

Christian Bale is overrated. He overacts too much. The moment I saw Christian Bale as Gorr, I knew the movie would blow. The moment I saw Taiki as Director then I knew the movie would just be a parody and overly comical and maybe overly gory, grotesque, or disturbing in some imagery. I also knew that continuity and having a good story wouldn't matter whatsoever.

Idk. I feel like Thor 4 really should’ve been the first film of a Mighty Thor trilogy. Doesn’t mean Thor Odinson disappears, just that Jane takes more center stage and learns what it is to be a god and shows the gods what it is to be human

The problem is that Thor works fine when he's stoic and serious in the comics and animated stuff but when you try to adapt that to live action you get... The Dark World

First of all, MCU Thor was never anywhere close to the comic-book Thor. Comic-book Thor is serious in an interesting way, where he makes big speeches, uses sophisticated verbiage and shows variety of emotions, from anger to sorrow. Second of all, Thor wasn't serious in that movie. He made jokes all the time. The difference is that, unlike in Taika's nonsense, he knew when to start taking things seriously. And lastly, Love and Thunder is legit one of the worst mainstream movies ever made, so you Taika stans can no longer use TDW as your whataboutism for why serious Thor doesn't work.

I don't think the problem with love and thunder was necessarily that it was too goofy.. but that the jokes ABC humor was so rehashed from ragnarok. The humor was new and refreshing in ragnarok, but it felt like nothing in l&t was new

I think overall the comedy still works. Just tone down like 3 or 4 jokes/moments and lean into the horror and emotional more. A better balance. But not everything has to be the same. Not everything has to be Guardians. Than we would have never gotten GOTG. You can't be afraid to try new things. You can either try to follow trends or become the trend.

The fact that Hemsworth took responsibility instead of pointing the finger at someone else like most people will is mad respectable. But I do still mostly blame taika waititi since he is the director after all and I was just never a fan of him to begin with. I never liked Ragnarok as much as everyone else did.

Love the comments. "Person thinks they're at fault for something" "Person takes blame for thing" "Humanity praises him for doing what everyone should always be doing.". I'm not hating on Chris, I just think we should stop putting celebs on pedestals for saying or doing something we all do. I enjoyed all of his films, (Ghostbusters 2016 never existed) hilarious, caring and great actor. But c'mon, it obviously wasn't his fault. He just feels bad in hindsight for not being more serious in the role and wants to amend for it, there is no downside for him taking any blame because there is no penalty for it and he clearly wants to amend it. So instead of praising him, make him amend it....by making another Thor movie that can rival Winter Soldier, Infinity War & Endgame.

I actually dont think much difference in tone *does* work in a cinematic universe. The Netflix marvel shows were better than they get credit for but even Iron Fist which was poorly put together had the sense of real evil in the villains, jeopardy for the main character etc and the jokes were BY the characters, the characters weren't themselves the jokes. I think stuff like peacemaker actually does cheapen the seriousness of connected movies. Guardians of the galaxy is similar situation but at least their setting is really different

Class act all around. Even taking blame for a movie that has the biggest entertainment conglomerate in the world in charge of it. I never have a problem with Hemsworths' performances in nearly everything he does. Directors and writers need to start stepping up and shouldering some of the blame publicly when a movie tanks.

I agree. He’s just trying to defend the director since he’s catching a lot of flack. Any director worth his salt will know when to cut the improvisation and relay to his actors what he needs at certain moments. The director should shoulder majority of the blame. It’s that simple. Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t work again, just means he needs to embrace the criticism of the garbage he put out and try to re-earn the trust previously put in him.

Actually both were the problem. Him and Taika wanted jokey Thor. They both wanted Naked Gun Thor. After Ragnorak's success, Fiege gave them control to go even goofier. Thor is supposed to be one of most bad ass characters in Marvel and he was turned into a goofball When the Russo brothers wanted a more serious Thor in Infinity War, Hemsworth told them him and Taika changed the character and he wanted the character to be more like Ragnorak Thor. They had to explain to him why that wouldn't fit the movie. Him and Taika were friends before Ragnorak even began shooting and are both jokey people and they just put Hemsworth jokey mode in Thor
