Composition exercise with watercolor and collage

Composition can be really hard. Learning about it theoretically is one way to approach it, but experimenting with it A LOT, is probably the best way to learn and to get a feel for it. As you can see in this video, often we don't even know WHY a certain composition works for us. We just feel it does. Until we sit back and try to analyze it. Then something logical comes up that we can learn from.
What I like to do, is to do these composition exercises in between painting my treeworlds, for example. Little as they may seem to have to do with one another on first glance, in fact, these composition exercises I often find processed in my watercolor paintins later.

I love it! I totally agree with you about the importance of composition. I do both compositions that are abstract and traditional watercolours. The abstract is excellent for tuning yourself into right brain composition and seeing the potential and inclusion of interesting out of the box ideas. I love collage always. Thank you for sharing. 🇨🇦
