A little update and how I mustered the courage to try painting a Van Gogh.

One of my favorite of Vincent Van Gogh's work. Happy you are tackling such an interesting detail to incorporate it into your own work. Fingers crossed for you Mandy! Good luck.

Thanks so much! In the first layers I'm good...fingers crossed for the rest :-)
I never buy expensive frames since I think he frame is a mannequin for the piece of art. And there to protect the art. When the customer buys it, they can change the frame if they so wish.
Yup, super cold and wet spring here too. I also dislike fabriano paper, makes everything look cheap.

Yes, it does, doesn't it? That's the right word for it, 'cheap'.
I thought the background of Almond Tree was more of a teal or soft turquoise colour?

Yes, when you mix the viridian with the cobalt, the color goes that way indeed. But the way Van Gogh painted it, seems quite powdery, so not very outspoken.

@@MandyvanGoeije Thanks!
Have you considered using cellulose paper to create backruns reminiscent of the background in the painting? Also, have you considered using aquapasto to retard the drying and give yourself some working time?

No, I want to do this in my trusted medium in my tecnique. But it sure sounds interesting. Have you tried these techniques?

@@MandyvanGoeije I only do it accidentally. I think it is best to do it with a wet brush, but not too wet. The trick is to have the paint dry within a couple of mins to make interesting effects. I’ve noticed that this technique gives me the most interesting results. A very wet brush or pre-wetting the paper causes strong back runs, which strongly suggests mistakes or poor techniques.
