Citizen Promaster looks clean, handsome, tough and will remain sealed for most of its life. Its price won't bore a hole in your pocket, a real winner on all counts. Great buy indeed!

Great buy. Can't beat Citizen and their finishing is top notch for the price range to . Eco drive is where it's at.

I just picked up one of these at Macy's today. They have them on clearance for $179 which I think is a hell of a deal.

I have this watch. What I like about it is that it is robust. It keeps on ticking, even after being in the dark for quite a while. It is my go-to survival/camping watch. Yes the date window is way too small and the second hand does not hit all of the tick marks, but I like it for it's Spartan characteristics.

This one flys under the radar a lot. I like it and have been contemplating picking one up

I love the look of the watch, clean, tidy, balanced. It gives a feeling of strong, safe and a lot of character. I don't care if the date is too small; Anyway, I receive text messages all day in my cell, so I am always seeing the time and date in it. I use the watch only for the pleasure of feeling it on the wrist. Therefore this watch is ideal to wear it. Excellent video.

I like this one, very aesthetically pleasing to me.

Just bought one today for £150 what a bargain! Looks good on the bracelet and natos, first try at sizing my bracelet as well and it was a doddle!

It really looks cool and tough... I think apart from this one, Mido's commander line still make use of the monocoque type case design. I love the two different lume.

You put that on a watch steward olive drab nato strap and you got yourself a winner! I’ve got the Men's BL1258-53L The Signature Collection Blue Dial Stainless Steel Watch. It’s a highly underrated time piece. The way the sun reflects the colors on the watch is phenomenal!

Ha ha Rob, I just did a random Eco-Drive purchase too. Picked up the BM8180-03E on Amazon because it was around $50 with my Cash Back bonus and Black Friday price drop, etc. Threw it on a Barton Elite Silicone and have been very happy. Tough little beater field watch. Yours is a sleek design and looks like, even with the long lugs, wears quite well. Love the monocoque case design. Gonna have to stop by the jewelry section at Macy’s and slip it on.

@@RandomRobReviews yep, or Macy's here in Portland is too. I quickly looked at the PADI and Save the Ocean Turtles. I was drooling over that Save the Ocean Dial but the new Turtles are too big for me. I'm crossing my fingers that Seiko does a Save the Ocean Baby Turtle at some point.

Love, love, love these watches. Just wish they made a mid-sized version.

Cool beater watch!

I bought the all black model for $180 at Macy’s last month.

Looks really nice on the darker NATO Strap.

Love the mono-block case design and titanium like brushed finish. That flat back is so much better than bulging case backs - SLICK! Interesting how bezel is wide and flat enough to have a dive bezel...Wish they'd put numbers on dial (3/6/9), lessen size of word CITIZEN, and use an orange or half black & orange second hand. In general, the dial needs a little color - maybe colored indices on chapter ring. Like that other colored lumed minute hand alot

I like it on the grey NATO strap. I have the earlier version of this (Circa2008) that is a bit smaller and still going strong. It's deadly accurate but the attempt at a Perpetual Calendar was a disaster as it's very difficult to set it - very frustrating. And you never know if it's set properly until the end of a 30 day month. I'm going to upgrade to this version shortly.

Got this watch as a random trade. I really like it! They could have just skipped that date function though.

If someone needs something similar but smaller i will suggest check the AW1540-88W is Titanium and sapphire , i had it and i love it. Thanks for the video.

obviously good for people who want a good waterproof watch for swimming , diving or sports and outdoor activities

Just got this one also, only thing that cheapens the watch is unfortunately what your always looking at, dial, hands , indicies, are not at the level of the amazing case and band. Great review!

Citizen used to make them a bit smaller. Some of the titanium promaster tough models from the late 90’s-early 2000’s were 39-40mm in diameter and much shorter lug to lug too. Not really sure why Citizen stopped making them as they were absolute perfection for everyday wear.

Wish Citizen would do more automatic watches .

Yeah, they did that crap before with the non-open case back on their old diver watches. I had one of those before and if you're out in the sun a lot of times, the capacitor goes bad from the heat. Can't fix it without costing as much as the watch itself.

Removing a link shortens the bracelet by the length of the "H" only. The center piece inserts into the next "H" so does not shorten bracelet to an additional extent.

I like it, but I'm not sure about the dial and wide bezel. Got the BN0200 titanium instead. Great watch imo. In comparison to the automatic market, there are just too few to choose from, when it comes to solar watches with good lume and WR ratings.

I got that titanium one as well. Totally prefer this watch between the two. Ruined field watches for me, sets the bar really high. The titanium one I gave away, just a generally unattractive watch in my opinion and a scratch magnet. The capacitor lifespan is phenomenal, 80% after 20 years, sapphire, monocoque and the lume is incredible. Even love the bracelet. Hate that date window. Discontinued now as of 07/2021. Low sales, get them while you can.

What do you guys think of the citizen titanium tough watch.

Fashion statement....like wide ties and then narrow ties, etc...mini skirts vs long skirts. We are now conditioned to weaing dinner plates on our wrists and we end up looking like a 5 year old wearing Dad's clothes......idiotic.

I have a 6.5” wrist and normally stick to lug to lug lengths less than 48-49mm. Yes it’s 51mm but it wears very well on a small wrists for 2 reasons: 1) The lugs curve down nicely in combination with the flat monocoque case, 2) The spring bar sits well inside the link effectively shortening the lug to lug length by about 2mm. I encourage you to try one on as it wears much better than you’d think.

I just wish the bezel wasn't as plain. The Victorinox INOX looks better and has slightly better robustness but its too bulky/heavy as everyday wear on bracelet, whereas this Citizen is super comfy @ 11mm thick!

Seems like an excellent beater watch, and I mean that as a compliment. Also seems kinda anti-Japanese, in a _less-is-more way_ . It's very easy to find flashy, overtly styled watches but this one has a basic quality that appeals.

Is it good for 6.5 inches wrist?

Rob, can you give us a weight in grams sized for your wrist? Just curious how heavy this beast is.

175 grams sized little loose on my 7.25” wrist. Think I only took one H link and center out.

Can't go wrong with a Citizen. Several on eBay for $299

The stainless steel work is much better than Seiko, Citizen is just moving away from mechanical watches.. which is really a shame..

How do you open it

Citizen make two mistakes. they make a" 'TOUGH" watch but size the band for people who have never worked with their hands (my wrist is 8 3/4"). So no metal band for me. The second is they make the watch easy to read but I need a flashlight to read the calendar.because it is small numbers and set so deep it is in shadow. I'm still sitting on the fence to buy or not.

Is there anyone who can repair a ecco drive watch?

The question is, how do you service that thing if something goes wrong when there is no way you can open it except from the crystal part? I'd rather buy other Eco drive models with screw backs than this cuz for me, I don't see a tough watch, I see planned obsolescence.

I want to buy this watch. If the watch will need a capacitor replacement, is it possible to service it?

Interesting that Citizen lumes the minute hand in blue, and Seiko lumes the hour hand in blue. Some sort of diver functionality is my guess: in the hour or two range, the green minute hand should be brighter, but in the 7 to 8 hour range, when the eye is totally dark adapted, and more sensitive to blue, the blue hour hand is more important. Total conjecture on my part.

I wish it looked a bit more attractive on the dial. It's looks like a Orient bambino. Add the date window is too small. If it is truly tough then they need the crown at 4 o'clock because guys doing tough stuff want the crown out of the way.

No perpetual calendar. Not my choice

After wearing Titanium for years, I can't go back to steel. Feels like carrying a brick on your wrist.

Don't like those sharp edges on the case should have smooth edges all round (like the case back side.

Is the case also made in China like the band??? Why does Citizen have such tiny little crappy date windows and numerals. With dates bigger is better.

Confusing model. With that case, you'd think it would be a 300M watch. As a 300M, $300+ would totally be worth it.

I have the Inox in Black it’s not very legible the military numerals are useless the lume sucks and this watch has it beat

I used to buy a watch like this, used one in a very good price but i didnt konow that much about watches as i do know now. The cost of replaceing battery was 2x more than i pay for the watch :(( Not too many people understand that are not into watches that much, that after some time eco-drive NEED to replace battery. Good luck with replacement if you have this monoblock design. It means takeing off glass and the whole front of the watch. Me in person i say NO to this kind of design.

@@Jordan-tq5pj Umm, no. They used to use capacitors, but they have since moved to Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. Capacitors, whilst have no cell memory effect, have much higher failure rates. Lithium-ion can last a long time, providing you keep your watch at a high charge. Frequent full discharges will kill a battery pretty quick. 20 years from a li-ion battery cell is unlikely, but possible.

@@Jordan-yx5gb You seem a bit offended, need a hug? Just because you read something on the internet, doesn't mean it's 100% right. You are also getting too focused on terminology, when the two terms are both referring to a battery cell. Have you ever changed one yourself? I've done about 15 in the last year. I fix watches (both quartz and mechanical) as a hobby. They are all Li-ion now. Depending on which model battery you buy, some actually say Li-ion on them. They are still usually referred to as battery/capacitors to avoid confusion. They are simply a li-ion battery with a bridge on them. Search for eco drive battery and you'll see them being referred to a capacitor battery. Don't believe me? Ask Citizen yourself.

This thing appears to be impossible serviceable. Once that solar panel or battery degrades after 10 years or so, it'll be hard to find someone to fix it and likely costly, like that sapphire window will have to be removed and possibly broken in the process of getting to the components. Another big downside is it only has date without day. There's also some clear issues with quality, because it's easy to see there's ion plating on the bezel, and it's bubbling and rubbing off already near the crown.

you can open it and service - easy there is a small hole on 12h between case and bezel

Today is 10-28-19. this watch, with the strap band is $235 on Amazon, believe me the bracelet will get dirty, and you will NEVER get the perfect fit, nor will it be as comfortable as the rubber band! Should be receiving it this Thurs. If the date is hard to read it will be returned immediately!
