Carrie Underwood performs "When Will I Be Loved" to honor Linda Ronstadt during the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors.
Carrie Underwood is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, author and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), was bolstered by the huge crossover success of the singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", becoming the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history, the fastest-selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history and the best-selling country album of the last 17 years. Her accolades include seven Grammy Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, 15 American Music Awards, a Guinness world record and inductions into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry.
The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates icons who, through their artistry, have left an indelible stamp on our collective cultural consciousness,” stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. “Linda Ronstadt is the defining voice of a generation, spanning genres, languages, and continents."
Linda Ronstadt has performed and recorded in diverse genres including rock, country, light opera, and Latin. She has earned 10 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award, and many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum in the United States and internationally. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award. She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by The Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by The Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. In 2019, she received a star jointly with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their work as the group Trio.
In a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, the 2019 Honorees were saluted by today's leading performers from New York, Hollywood, and the arts capitals of the world through performances and tributes.

Carrie is an incredible vocalist but she doesn't seem to be able to reach that range of emotion in her voice that Linda did so effortlessly.
Although Linda’s version is the best, it’s also an Everly Brothers song.
Carrie's really good on this one but I prefer Linda's version. Linda had more power and could belt it out.

@@kellyloeffler2881 I know she is Carrie Underwood not Linda Ronstadt. Linda's version is better and Carrie Underwood sings that Linda's version. So I am wondering why she sings lower than LInda's version when she can do it. The original song is performed by "The Everly Brothers".

Thanks for the effort but she doesn't have that almost raspy ability to belt it out the way Ronstadt could. Just keeping it real.

Means that they lowered the key of the song to suit her voice better, which BTW is not near Linda’s tonality and quality.

Ronnie K Carrie can and has sang this song in past performances in original key and sounded equally as good as Linda. taste is subjective you know

I can’t stand Carrie and her voice. I don’t like her arrangement of Linda’s songs. Carries attitude around music and Award has put a sour note on anything Carrie puts her hands on.
