I am watching this 11 years later, and my heart breaks for Kevin. He’s just been going through an acrimonious divorce and child custody case and it breaks my heart to see such a good man, a really good man, tossed aside, because he’s no longer “good” enough. This tribute to Whitney tells us a great deal about him and the kind of man he is. I’m sending a prayer for him to lift him up so he could feel the love and succor him. 🙏

In interviews he has said one of his big regrets was not protecting her when he needed him and that he will have to live with that forever.

I’ve watched the movie “The Bodyguard” many times, and just as I felt the strong and powerful on-screen chemistry that Whitney and Kevin both shared, I feel it again as I watch this eulogy. I can tell that their relationship was very close, very real, and very passionate. So close, in fact, that it saddens me that they didn’t choose to pursue it further after the film completed. They would have been a true power couple, in every sense of the word, and I truly believe that Whitney would have gone on to be even more successful. More importantly, her self-confidence and self-esteem would have skyrocketed, with a man like Kevin by her side, believing in her and encouraging her the way he did. RIP dear Whitney 🙏🏼

There were a lot of people who criticised Kevin Costner after the funeral. When Princess Diana died, every celebrity who had ever been in the same room as her, claimed they were best friends. Kevin Costner is the only celebrity who refused to talk about her. He only expressed his sadness over her death and refused to turn mourning into a PR exercise. Here, he did the same. He talked because he was asked by Whitney's family and it was a beautiful eulogy. I think Kevin Costner has a lot of class and integrity.

Kevin Costner is someone I aspire to be like in regards to integrity

I think she will always remain the example of the finest female vocalist. There's many great singers but her voice activates emotion like no other. She's one in 8 billion.

A love that is real, a love that is faithful, true and enduring, is a love from the heart. Listening to Kevin's tribute to Whitney, is both heart-warming and heart breaking. What a sincere, moment expressed by a man to a woman. It is obvious that Kevin loved her then, now and he always will. True love is beautiful and true love is everlasting

He paid the tab for a bunch of my Army friends and I and talked to us for a little while. he was far more interested in what we did in the military than talking about himself. I meet the guy who did the props and everything in dances with wolves he said Kevin was a total asshole and wanted his way but you know what it's his opinion Kevin is a wonderful actor and singer plus after this he is kind hearted and don't mention he helped build the oil thing for the oil spill that tells you something Kevin who cares what your so called not fans say it's there opinion we love you keep it up.

I just recently watched a documentary about the making of “The Bodyguard.” The fact that Kevin Costner wanted to wait a year for her availability was just amazing. Who does that for a “black”singer in her first acting role. Kevin and Whitney connected and they had great chemistry on and off screen. What a sad day when Whitney left us. Kevin Costner you’re a class act and I LOVE YELLOWSTONE.

Cant believe i only just witnessed this amazing tribute to Whitney by an amazing actor and man Kevin Costner. Brought a tear to my eye, it was just beautiful and honest. RIP Whitney and thank you Kevin for this heartfelt speech.

I never heard this, this was so deep and personal. You can genuinely feel how this man loved and cared for her. I think if she had allowed him to play a bigger part in her life he would have been and she would still be here with us. I always loved him, this man is a true class act.

I'm still intrigued as to why Whitney's mum and aunt asked Kevin to speak. They must have known Whitney had a more then ordinary connection with Kevin, couldn't find anything on Cissy or Dionne talking about kevin in any interviews.

I've always felt that way about Kevin Costner (and the movie "The Bodyguard" reflects a special part of my life, also).

@@TheFailedmessiah He never had an type of security or military training for them to consider wanting him to be her "bodyguard" I think it had more to do with the fact that he himself vouched for her for the role when everyone was dead set against it when they had acclaimed actresses waiting to audition for the role. She had no actor training under her belt and The bodyguard was her breakout role that solidified her as an "actress". They asked him to speak because he did have some affections for her that grew over their time of filming but being a good man he was married and so was she so he respected those boundaries and never allowed anyone to take advantage of her.

Her death was such a tragic loss. So young, so beautiful, so talented! May you rest in peace forevermore, Whitney.

Kevin did an amazing job!! You could hear the pain in his voice as he lovingly talked about Whitney!! If only she had stayed close to Kevin she may not have fallen down that rabbit hole. She would still be one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen and no one could ever top her singing!! RIP Whitney and Bobbie Christine

It's 2020... am re-visiting this speech. This is what genuine love & friendship truly is. Kevin Costner is such a gentleman, he should have married her. I still beleive he would have been her perfect husband. The Chemistry in Bodyguard was beyond acting. RIP Whitney.

And sometimes its just bad timing too and many other reasons, its sad but thats life, and a lot of people fail to see who was really there for them and who cared for them the most. in Kevin and Whitney's case I think it was just bad timing and if they had met say 5 years before and both were single, things would have been different. But youre right, i think these 2 were perfect together, and i think it would of been a match that whitney's family would truely embrace seeing as they were both quite religious and grew up in the same church.

I cried watching this today, after all of these years. Whitney was absolutely a gift to this world.

All these years later and this still brings me to tears. You can tell that the love Kevin had for Whitney was real, pure, and deep-and who could blame him? Flaws and all, she was a gift to this world. What a class act he is for giving such a heartfelt tribute.

I truly believe that there were real connected feelings between both Kevin and Whitney and that's why the movie was such a hit. Watching the movie, you didn't want it to end. It made me want more of the movie. It all was so real. A love that any man or woman would want to have.

He loves the soul of Whitney he saw deep into her very core. He loves her more than bobby ever could

exactly, he got her. that was the most honest speech of the whole funeral.

They couldn't have picked a better person to speak at her funeral. He spoke so eloquently about her and it was beautiful ❤️.

Her name better be on the top of that list!! Her Angelic voice will never be forgotten!!

His words were simply beautiful

He really cared for her as a person and not merely a performer/ actress/ singer. If you can understand what I'm saying but HE SAW HER....... He saw THROUGH her....... the way he speaks of her is indeed a very close unexplainable knitted spirited bond. He is a class act and has kept the Hollywood out of his feelings and his words about the great Whitney Houston ❤️

Kevin saw something in Whitney that others didn't. The one person who believes in you is worth more than a dozen naysayers.

He held back those tears 😢 rip to the beautiful and talented Whitney Houston ❤️

I have watched this 100s of times. The best going home speech I've ever heard. My Mommy spent her life and mine in music. I lost her 2 years ago, not iny heart. I wish someone had those things for my Mom but she was only famous to us and the Midwest we all toured. In a way when I listen to it and it was for Mommy too. Except it was a Methodist Church and a small one up north. Thank you, Mr. Costner she was a fan too, of you and Miss Houston God will reward you for your strength in GOD and your 💜.

Its so clear that he loved Whitney. Really loved her. Such a moving tribute to a remarkable woman. What a gentleman Costner is.

I watched her whole funeral. Bawled my eyes out. And then Kevin came on. I was almost uncontrollable. Not only did he pay such a beautiful tribute to her, but I've always loved him anyway. And this just reiterated why.

Tragedy that she was already messed up on drugs. No matter how much he might have wanted to that was something no amount of love can fix. It saddened me that she endured such abuse in her personal relationship.

Even after all these years I wept listening to this again. She was by far my VERY FAVORITE female singer! I’ve got all her albums & miss her dearly. They’ll never be another Whitney

Whitney and Kevin were truly KINDRED SPIRITS. He clearly loved her, as we can hear in his own words here. God Bless both of them.

Costner’s speech is the true epitome of class and dignity. He alone was sufficient enough.

You can tell he absolutely adored her. Beautiful eulogy and heartbreaking.

She sang like we speak One of the most natural voices that ever lived

Costner is a great man. He was able to bring joy at a sad event. That is charisma.

One of the greatest speeches I've ever heard... Whitney will always be remembered across the world...she was/and will always be the greatest singer of all time. I wonder some days with what songs she would've shock the world RIP WH you were the greatest

Never watched this before. However, new respect for Kevin Costner.

What an beautiful speech from a beautiful man. RIP Whitney. 😢

How we are remembered after we are gone tells a story of how we lived each day. The way Kevin had to hold back tears with his eloquent words did just that. One can only hope to have a friendship like theirs. A talented and kind person like Whitney comes only once in a lifetime.🍀

Im watching this again for the hundredth time. Because I love seeing how much a man truely loved a woman.

Thank you Kevin for those words -Whitney was to me the most amazing voice I had ever heard from the very first time I heard her sing and a beautiful woman as well.....Sadly lifes challenges took her home too soon but her memory remains and you paid her a wonderful tribute.

Wow the fact that he got them to wait a year for her is incredible. He knew how special she was and they later found out. Can't wait to go back and watch The Bodyguard now.

This man loved this woman. If this was the man she had chosen in real life....she would probably still be alive today! Thank you for this Kevin. In a time where we need to heal in this country, you have made your mark in helping it happen! RIP Whitney. You have set the bar higher in many ways and your spirit lives in all of us!

Nobody wanted to see Kevin, white man with his black leading costar and it was a huge thing even back then. The black community didn't support it and neither did whites. Kevin was afraid of not only hurting his own career but couldn't deal with a drug addict not even long enough to call it an affair.

I watched this speech back in 2012. To this day it still gets to me. Kevin really loved Whitney! He waited a year for her, he was there for her every step of the way, never let her fall and he was the one who chose I Will Always Love You for the film because he saw her potential and knew she could do it. This beautiful eulogy is a symbol just how special she was to him and how deeply he felt for her. They were a beautiful couple on the screen. I truly believe that there was something between them. This is an example of what a beautiful friendship and love looks like.

When Kevin said Whitney was his true love & regrets for not saving her, he was married. I wonder how his wife felt at the time because no man can say that lightly, unless he meant it. Is it normal for movie studio to wait a year for actors to accept a role?

I had no idea how close they were. No wonder they had so much chemistry on screen...They had a ton of chemistry off screen. Similar to what MrKobajack said...If only they would have married, Whitney would likely still be bringing us to tears with her beautiful voice, the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

Kevin Costner is a true class act! A real Role Model for Hollywood! You could tell on the set that He and Whitney had a special bond and love for each other, I mean that in a pure way, a brotherly / sisterly way. I adored Whitney and was so sad when she passed.
