Carrie Underwood performs "Blue Bayou" to honor Linda Ronstadt during the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors.
Carrie Underwood is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, author and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), was bolstered by the huge crossover success of the singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", becoming the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history, the fastest-selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history and the best-selling country album of the last 17 years. Her accolades include seven Grammy Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, 15 American Music Awards, a Guinness world record and inductions into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry.
The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates icons who, through their artistry, have left an indelible stamp on our collective cultural consciousness,” stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. “Linda Ronstadt is the defining voice of a generation, spanning genres, languages, and continents."
Linda Ronstadt has performed and recorded in diverse genres including rock, country, light opera, and Latin. She has earned 10 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award, and many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum in the United States and internationally. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award. She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by The Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by The Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. In 2019, she received a star jointly with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their work as the group Trio.
In a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, the 2019 Honorees were saluted by today's leading performers from New York, Hollywood, and the arts capitals of the world through performances and tributes.

Ronstadt was the Queen of her scene and was in possession of one the most glorious voices of the 20th Century. This is a heartfelt honor from Ms. Underwood. Linda live was something else - no one in her league.

Just think what the world may never have discovered if American Idol judges hadn’t brought her forward! I’ve listened to Linda Rondstadt most of my life. She is phenomenal!!!
Big hit for Linda that most forget Roy Orbison was the original. Roy also does this song justice I think around 1963? 🌴😎🌈Aloha

This song was recorded by Roy Orbison in 1961 . Linda recorded it in 1977. Give credit where it is due . I also love Linda .

I think even Roy Orbison would prefer Linda's version, and I'm an Orbison fan, and his version was superb, but Linda's version is heavenly.

Linda's great no doubt but I believe Carrie's version to be more silky smooth and beautiful. The chorus was sang with more power and less effort. Carrie is a master!

I will stand up for carrie underwood.I'm a fan of hers .she is way better than that Allison Porter don't know who she is.but I know Carrie is way better than her.

Aw i was hoping it wasnt true. but I thought they looked extremely unnatural. Her and Ellie Goulding are the same person now that they got theyre lips puffed up. It seems to have affected her singing 2 y does it sounds so hoarse

This is nice, but I prefer the peppier tempo of the original Roy Orbison version.
Did she get her lips done???? They look way fuller. I sure hope not. She is such a natural beauty all around.

@@bellajohnson5647 She had an accident in 2017 where she fell and busted her face. She broke her wrist and needed 50 stitches across her lips to her nose. She looks different because of corrective plastic surgeries. It’d be nice if people did some research because over this time she also suffered three miscarriages and it’s this kind of mindless judgment that drowns people in depression... be kind.

Linda was so sincere when she sang this song.. effortless and touching my heart deeply while carrie just show if she can sing. Sorry. Always miss ms linda.
I would have loved to have seen kelly clarkson sing this. Carrie is good but not great at doing other genres

Kelly did the song closer to original arrangement. Kelly is a better & more versatile singer and did alot better than carrie on this song on my opinion

Her version is lovely but Kelly's version and especially Alison Porter's on the Voice are the best I feel.

It’s just too slow.
Her voice was wonderful here, but the instrumentals weren't great at all. If it had just been her voice and an acoustic guitar or guitar combined with drums, it would have been much better.
I don't like the strings on this.
Carrie lacks several important vocal qualities: Emotion is the primary. Emotion is missing from most of her songs. She lacks many of the technical qualities of superior vocalists but more importantly she doesn't "move you" emotionally. She does a decent cover but nothing new, emotive, or anything close to the original. Many other singers could have given Linda a better tribute performance.

It's sad when you Realize you're your Hero doesn't have as powerful a voice as you thought she had! My hero can sing with Crystal clear vocals that willl shake your mama's wig loose!

I agree, too slow. I played Carries version and Linda's back to back. Carrie is a great singer but this one belongs to Linda without a doubt. In my humble opinion.
