Building A STRONGMAN GARAGE GYM

Спорт

In this video, I build a fake strongman garage gym. I cover all the equipment I think you'll need starting with the bare minimum all the way up to luxury items. Sandbags, axle bar, sled, bumpers, log, tire, atlas stones, yoke, hussafel, keg, circus DB.

You gotta acknowledge a home gym may not be good for some people. Because some people buy things and dont use it. They need a gym to motivate them plus it is expensive in the short term. In the same way a comission based income is not good for some people. Some like to know exactly how much money they will make in the end of a shift.

It would have been funny if the context of Rippetoe's actual point wasn't spot on (which I'm sure Allan knows... And I'm no Rippetoe fan). When he jabs at something Rippetoe says that is biomechanically accurate and contextually inarguable, it just seems childish.

@@axeman7509-tf2kf, perhaps I should have more clearly stated my position because based on the web page you directed me to (thank you), we seem to agree on what I thought Rippetoe’s main point was and is what my main point is. Trap bar deadlift and barbell deadlift are biomechanically different exercises. Unlike Rippetoe, I find the trap bar highly valuable in my training, though. The article you directed me to, as well as the articles referenced in Nuckol’s webpage, and this scientific study [Camara, K. et al. (2016) An examination of muscle activation and power characteristics while performing the deadlift exercise with straight and hexagonal barbells. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. 30(5): 1183-1188.] AND this one [Anderson, V, et al, (2018) Electromyographic Comparison of Barbell Deadlift, Hex Bar Deadlift, and Hip Thrust Exercises A Cross-Over Study. Journal of Strength and Conditioning. 32(3) 587-95] all say the same thing - the two exercises are not biomechanically equivalent, which is what I thought Rippetoe’s main point was and why I said, “biomechanically accurate.” Within several things he said that are verifiably wrong, like people can deadlift more with a barbell than a trap bar and that the trap bar is a “useless piece of junk,” etc., the context of his primary argument (I thought) was that the military is substituting the trap bar deadlift for the barbell deadlift and they are not biomechanically equivalent exercises, which is what I meant by “biomechanically accurate and contextually valid.” I guess the next time I say anything that smells like support for Marc Rippetoe, I need to highly qualify why I support him.

I live in a very rural area. My grandparents that live 10 minutes away have a garage gym, and it has basically everything a starter needs. My grandpa and my dad bought it all from a neighbour that was moving away, he had made all the equipment himself. That had to be over 25 years ago, I never met the man that made it, but he did an amazing job. The equipment is on par with or better than what you’d find at most commercial gyms. It’s all made out of heavy steel, has held up with no signs of wear. Currently we have: -2 weight trees and plates ranging from 1.25 kg to 20kg -A bench press rack -A bench -A Smith machine -A leg Press -Standing calf machine -Sitting calf machine -Back Extension harness -Cable machine -Incline bench -Sitting preacher curl setup -Dumbbell Rack with 2kg-44kg All of this was made by one guy (minus the plates and dumbbells) Along with this we have -3 Olympic bars -A good quality squat rack (You can do chin-ups/pull-ups off of it, can put in handles to do dips, and it came with an adjustable bench that a leg curl/extension thing can be attached into) -An elliptical -Treadmill -A sit-up chair that can be adjusted into a decline bench I’ve been thinking about making some strongman equipment now, and will likely work my way up into having everything in this video. Living on a farm it’s very easy to acquire tractor tires and easy to build projects. Thanks for this video, it sure will be helpful.

It makes a suitable farmer carry implement and if you're gonna keep the reps high and do something like emom 3 trap bar deadlifts or 10 rep sets its gonna be easier to recover from. @@grimtrigg3r of course theirs a training effect. it's trash because you have to use more weight to get the same effect of a conventional deadlift because of the leverages involved and also it overlaps too much with heavy squatting, these can lead to imbalances and also recovery problems. it's not enough of a hip hinge. it's fine for reps as a conditioning tool because you won't be using a lot of weight and the back angle will be easier to recover from but it's not a thing you max out on.
