    I thought the same thing. His promo just seemed like a young star mad at the veteran big name coming in out of nowhere and making the big money and being in the big spots. Pointing out the young guys or workers rights thing seemed right in line with that type of promo. Seems normal to me for the young up and comer to go after the big star who says they want to give back but look out for themselves and take the spotlight in story as part of the show to add into the feud on the show. I also thought it made the story better because they were both baby face characters so it finally mixed in a personal issue for why they’d fight each other because yeah I guess you could just have good guys who respect each other who choose to fight because it’s for the belt but an actual issue makes it more interesting to me. For me I didn’t think twice about Hangman’s promo until Punk did his receipt and the scrum where he blasted him for the promo. It also seems disingenuous to have been so mad about it because Punk was famous for promos about how he didn’t like the idea of Cena and how he wasn’t better and just kissed ass to get where he is or how Cena wasn’t the underdog like he said he was. Or how back when the Rock was main eventing WM with Cena he had media interviews where he spoke about having issues with the Rock getting to come in and main event over the people working all year and pointed out his issues that the Rodk says he loves the WWE but isn’t around much. Maybe all that stuff was cleared ahead but that stuff was more obvious as burials than Hangman’s shit was. So I get why he had issue but I think he blew it way out of proportion from what it was and that if he hadn’t handled it like he did nobody would’ve really thought twice about it because it really didn’t seem like a blatant burial for me.

    "I don't remember exactly what Hangman said". And that's the whole point. NO ONE DID. Because It was so extremely vague no one knew for sure what It was supposed to mean, It sounded like the usual worked shoot promo and something that might have been addressed later on. I honestly believed It was a story because Eddie Kingston used similar talking points in their feud and even during the whole MJF feud the idea of Punk being a bad guy was brought up. I thought It was the new long term story, that eventually Punk would do the big heel turn reveal and Eddie Kingston and Hangman would have been proven right, that added to my curiosity because I wondered if Punk was gonna turn at the PPV. I didn't for a second realize It was a real shoot. I get It that Hangman fucked up and Punk was initially in the right, but how exactly doing the same thing but WORSE a valid solution? How is that more professional? Hangman was also barely featured after Forbidden Door. And how was that scrum professional? You want to be a leader so much, then lead by example. Hangman fucked up and yet he didn't fire back when Punk went over the top with his receipt. He took it, silently, didn't make any public statement, didn't escalate the situation. Punk did, with the scrum, he went back there. And then aired even more dirty loundry, publicly. At that point, he made himself wrong. And then played macho and openly asked the people he was mad with to confront him if they wanted. Surprise surprise, they did and It went south. What did he expect to happen? It wasn't about the Cabana thing anymore at that point, those guys were there at the start and some of them actually tried to get Punk to join AEW early on in year 1. It was about openly burying them in the public. I'm sorry, I love Punk as a performer, but in a situation where everybody screwed up, he screwed up more than everybody else involved. If he gets punished for it, it's deserved.

    As a manger if a employee says “come fight me” the last you do is engage that. You will let them know to come talk to you when you are calm or just flat out fire you. The bucks, and Omega are managers in position. Regardless of them being mad. They made the wrong choice to confront this the way they did as managers. Say what you want about Vince. But any manager under Vince staff who would’ve reacted the way Bucks and Omega did would’ve been fired on the spot. It paints the company in a bad light. It paints the managers in a bad way. Now, the talent knows that if they have any grievances. They can’t go to Omega or the Bucks without the thought of them being assaulted. $5 that Bucks and Omega wouldn’t confronted Taker the way they did with Punk if they worked for Vince.

    In both of the potential promos about which Phil Brooks could have been mad, Hangman was very vague and never specifically said anything about any particular person or event. He made insinuations about Phil Brooks not really caring about the other wrestlers in the locker room, that he was self-centered and really cared only about himself, and that he was two-faced. He said he doesn't really care about workers' rights. He said that people really do see and hear Phil in those times when Phil Brooks doesn't think anyone is looking or listening and shows who he really is. That's it. Never once, aside from online speculation using anonymous sources, was anything about Colt Cabana said. What pissed Phil Brooks off was that he wasn't prepared for the promo Adam Page cut; a promo that more or less took almost the same angle that Kingston had used before, might I add, just tweaked to be Hangman defending the ones Phil was allegedly bullying instead of a personal issue. But Phil wasn't ready for it. And can we all take the blinders off for a minute and admit that Phil Brooks is only great on the stick when he plays a David against Goliath AND when he's prepared for things to go certain ways. Otherwise, he's average at best, and even then his promos are petty and obvious or the straight edge superiority shtick. That's why Phil Brooks was pissed. Because he thought Hangman went out there specifically to make him look foolish. That's why he went and made Hangman look foolish. The Cabana thing is just a second course that Phil Brooks ordered with his persecution complex.

    Here’s the thing that I think a lot of people are missing because they are too close to the situation. The more casual fan. I don’t ever watch any “dirt sheet” style coverage. Before all this went down all I knew was Punk and Cabana were good friends and then Punk did his podcast after he left WWE and lawsuits started flying and Cabana basically claimed Punk got him sued and left him holding the bag. I did not know Cabana was in the Dark Order and then moved to ROH. When I heard Page go into business for himself my thought was oh he’s saying that Punk is a phony and even though he brings ratings he’s actually someone who just claims to be about standing up for people in the back but really he’s just out for him. I got the impression that he was basically calling him Hulk Hogan of AEW. As someone who doesn’t pay attention to the backstage politics of wrestling it felt to me like Page was trying to say this isn’t someone you guys should be cheering for. Now that I have a better understanding of the situation I think this is one of 3 places where the blame should be. If Punk is lying and he told Tony to move Cabana then this is all on him because Page was right. If Punk had nothing to do with Cabana being moved and Page and the Bucks were told that by Tony then this is all on them for starting this drama. If however Punk had nothing to do with Cabana being moved and Page and the Bucks asked Tony and he dodged the question or gave them any reason to think Punk played in a role in it then this is all on Tony because then Page and company are standing up for their friend under bad information and Punk is being blamed for something he didn’t actually do and that would explain both sides feeling like the righteous party here

  • @billywashere6965

    @billywashere6965

    Жыл бұрын

    That's actually a REALLY good assessment of the situation. And I wouldn't doubt it's no. 3 because that seems like the most likely course of action. I'm also looking at reputations: No one says anything ill of Hangman or Omega out of the Elite. Everyone also talks about how professional all of the Elite are. They've never had locker room cancer accusations thrown at them. Punk has. In fact, every promotion he's worked for has had multiple people calling him a locker room cancer. So when Eddie Kingston said it, years after Triple H said it, years after The Rock insinuated it on Conan, and then it was followed by Hangman saying it, I tend to get the feeling that there is some kernal of truth to those claims.

    Locate the Aug 18 video titled “Dynamite fallout featuring CM Punk” and go to 2:14 on it. this is the moment Punk was mad at in the media scrum. Bryan says “punk went into business for himself” and calls it bullshit. Bryan denies this at the scrum and claims he only presented both sides of the argument.

    Look at it this way. Bryan is a journalist. Someone is attacking his credibility. As a journalist or tv personality your credibility is everything. So I think he’s defending his credibility and don’t want to come off like he only tell people side of the story he’s cool with.

    Bryan stood up for himself pretty well and clarified to Punk that he presented both sides of the story. I don't know what more you would have wanted him to say, it's not like he had 15 minutes to present his case at a media scrum. And if he did you'd accuse him of making things all about him. Literally nothing he could do to please you.

    From what it felt like to me is Punk was fuming that Colt is still making issues (direct or indirect) for him.. mind you that was a very personal period in his life so it has affected him to this day.. Colt is the enascapable bane of his existence and hangman just put that weight of Colt not being on TV square on his shoulders in front of everyone. With the media going along with it, its hurting his brand. So he is pssed. I honestly dont think he was involved with the Colt situation seeing Stu and 5 not being resigned either.
