Sounds to me like this is what AEW wanted Punk for. Wall to wall coverage in every wrestling publication. He has built about a year's worth of feuds in one press conference. Tony is on record saying he thinks Cornette has some valid points, and it's no surprise they seem to be leaning into that to make a story out of it. Punk heavily hinted almost everything Cornette has said. There is money in feuds that appear genuine. Punk has built hype almost on a level of the original WWE pipe bomb.

It might be a personality disorder but he's only nice when he has to be or when you're paying for his autograph. This can't be fixed by making everybody sit down. A decision has to be made and the obvious one is to get the strap off Punk and get him off TV by 2023.

In 1999 - 2000 era WCW. There was politicking in the back. Nash was made Booker. He put his guys over. Then Vince Russo came in and blurred the lines. He had his younger talent he wanted over. So he pushed guys like Billy Kidman, Jeff Jarrett, Vampiro etc ... but the guys in the back were happy to see Hogan, Sting, Hall and Nash on the card even though they never got opportunities to be at the top of the card. Why? Even the buried talent knew and respected the fact the Hogan's and the Nash's and the Stings drew money. And when these PPVs sell out. It meant more money in their pockets. It seems the AEW talent don't respect those who came before that are there to draw the crowds and viewers that in the end make them money. They think they are the draw when in reality ... they are not. Proof being the ratings drops while Punk was out nursing his foot.

Cornette has been cooking The Elite for years but yall are mad at Punk? There's two sides to every story. Hobbs got the win a lot of people wanted at All Out. Hobbs was one of the first people Punk worked with and he praised Punk for his assistance and advice backstage. To your point about talent praising TK and other vets - I notice the same thing - I do believe there's a side of the AEW locker room that sees "The Elite" guys merely as jackoffs who only help themselves and their friends & then I think there's another side of the AEW locker room that is pissed off or jealous that ex-WWE guys are getting both more TV time or more pay. The rest of the locker room is indifferent and just does their job. But I see that as two major sides colliding moving forward.

Sure there are plenty of things to learn from previous generations of artists, but you also have to be willing to throw some of that away and embrace what you're ready to offer. Sometimes these older guys give out of touch advice and the younger dudes don't take it. Just look at how JR tried to convince TK that Orange Cassidy wasn't going to work. Then he went on to become one of their most over wrestlers and biggest merch movers. Being experienced doesn't mean you always know what's best.

All while the Bucks and Omega are doing their best to sully Punk's name and possibly get him fired. These stories and the way they are reported on are examples of why our media is fucking horrible. It was so obvious that the "elite" were the ones leaking the stories about Punk wanting to leave a few weeks ago yet I don't see them getting criticized like Punk is. The 'elite' are bigger locker room cancers than Punk could ever be.

The same thing happened in WCW, where they held back young talent for too long. The Bucks and Omega also aren't much younger than Hogan/Hall/Nash at the point their joined WCW. By the time they started pushing younger talent like Benoit and Booker T to the main card, it was already too late. It's not late for AEW, but this is definitely a teaching moment. The Bucks have been reluctant to let FTR go over, even though they are having their best year on record. There are also plenty of younger up and comers like MJF who look like promising main eventers. AEW has the recipe for success, they just need to not be their own worst enemies.

Yeah it annoys me when people say "Kenny is developing the game", no, he's not! He's consulting with Yukes. Or "Kenny had FTR removed because he's friends with the Bucks!" that's not how that works. Yukes has to get a sign-off from the legal department that has to go through business management (which includes Tony Khan) in order to add/remove anyone from the game, whether it be to likeness issues, copyright, music, or branding. Kenny can't add or take anyone out of the game if he tried, he has ZERO power in that regard because he isn't developing anything, and has no say over the legal/copyright elements.

@@mervstash3692 No, it isn't. It was never $80 million; the division caps at $10. $80 million is the entire ANNUAL revenue that AEW brings in; the game put them in the red for ONE quarter. That literally makes it mathematically impossible for them to have blown $80 million on the game (besides, no AAA company spends that much money on game development anymore unless it's Rockstar. You can't even fit $80 million expenditure into a two-year dev cycle). It's frustrating people keep regurgitating that falsehood.

@@billywashere6965 think you might want to check that again mate. 10 mil was the initial investment. Might not be 80 now (like I said, "Apparently" & I also think that is probably false), but it's definitely way more than 10 as TK himself has publicly stated a few times when it's doubled, tripled etc. You have to consider that it's not the same financial model vs doing it with 2k for example. AEW has made their own gaming division from scratch, but using Yukes as the developer. It's public knowledge there are all sorts of issues between the 2 parties, loads of delays, blown out costs, as well as many undisclosed costs. There is no way all the development & distribution falls under 10 million.

Here is the gist of it. CM Punk is angry because a story got out he got Colt Cabana pushed off the roster into ROH. He blames the leaks on Adam Page and the Young Bucks. I believe he had nothing to do with it. Colt Cabana wasn't used much before Punk came in. Why? He isn't a major star. He is an Indie darling who was made for indie shows in high school gyms. He is a dark match type of guy. That has nothing to do with CM Punk. It is entirely Colt Cabana's doing. As for the Young Bucks as EVPs. They need to go. Their interests are their own and for their friends. Not for the betterment of AEW. Tony Kahn should have realized this when Cody Rhodes jumped ship. If the Young Bucks want to leave if they get demoted. Let them go. They still have the best tag team in Wrestling with FTR. The very team the Young Bucks seem hell bent on burying in my opinion.

@@rriggs6547 you’re right, airing grievances in public is tasteless and childish...so why did Hangman do it? And why did he decide to make this issue his number one talking point of the go-home promo of a major PPV? I was never crazy about how Punk complained for years about the WWE, though I would probably do the same if I had his experience, but he was 100% on the defensive here. He came into AEW to make money and do business, and Hangman comes out talking about ‘workers' rights’ and defending AEW from Punk. I mean, seriously? Go back home to your wife and her butterfly jeans you borrow if you want to be surrounded by a family and make no money. What happened was that these people thought that they could take a billionaire’s money to make a televised PWG where all of their talentless friends could work and be happy forever. But, unfortunately for them, the billionaire actually wants to make money from this venture, so he’s hiring people with experience in selling out stadiums. Those people are trying to grow the company and probably trying to teach these indy guys how to draw real money. Unfortunately, none of them are willing to take any advice because doing so would just prove to themselves that they’re not the perfect wrestlers they thought they were.

Are we seriously not convinced how much of a work this is? And is seems like Dave and Bryan are part of it. Don't get me wrong, I love AEW, especially the wrestling, but Dave and Bryan have been major advocates for the promotion since its inception and their connections with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega is grand. So when TK asked them to join for this media scrum, do you not think this was on purpose? Punk clearly wanted to create a lot of drama as he is moving towards a major heel turn, and what better way than throwing all of these people that fans love under the bus as he whines about silly stuff. Not only that, but he's bragging about how much he is doing for the company and how much money he is helping AEW make, which is definitely a heel tactic. He had his babyface moment in Chicago, but even the people of Chicago couldn't help themselves but cheer loudly for MJF. I guess we will see, but these seeds have been planted for a while now and we are finally seeing the heel Punk that was probably planned for earlier this summer before his injury.

The CM Punk stuff feels different, as these seeds have seemingly been planted since his feud with Hangman. Even when he was feuding with MJF, stuff came up, and now that MJF is back, Punk has been acting a bit more erratic. To me, that seems suspicious that this is all on purpose to create some interesting kayfabe in 2022. Remember, Punk and MJF are two of the best when it comes to kayfabe in the modern day, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. That's all I'm saying.

The crowd in Chicago was even cheering for MJF after Punk's win, which ultimately tells me that they knew this would happen all along and have been preparing for this moment for a while. I think Punk's foot injury delayed this story, hence why MJF has been gone longer than expected, but this screams modern day kayfabe and its glorious if it is so.

An interesting incerpt was raised by Chris Jericho, as the narrator, on the Bruiser Brody episode of the 'dark side of the ring', where he states that once your wrestling career comes to a close, you are extremely lucky to leave with any legitimate friends left. Wether this is a pipe bomb, overly- manic shoot, reckless abandonment etc- whatever.....few guys and girls in wrestling are where they should be on merit alone. I've been in some indy locker rooms, and you can always sense that the person sat beside you is secretly hoping you fuck up and fail. I was not a wrestler, but I was reading the room, and nobody is legitimately wishing the best for anybody. It put me off massively, but I wasn't suprised by it. If I take my hand to wrestling again it would probably be for summink like the snake pit. Authentic guys, zero political bullshit, and may the best man win. Judging by some of the twitter comments; I think people are beginning to seriously reconsider if following professional wrestling is worth anything to them these days....
