Had mine for 8 years with the only problem being a plastic smell. It was replaced straight away which they said was down to a manufacturing fault and has worked fine since then. I would definitely buy another one.

I've owned this exact model for 5 years and the only issue I have is difficulty descaling it. I also have the smaller model (which turns blue when boiling) and it's great.

it is hard to find a descaler which has citric acid in it but we have found one it is a black and yellow box kilrock descaler for kettles but you must look one the back of the box and make sure it says contains anhydrous citric acid 3 x 50 sachets

I have had mine 6 years and it has never leaked. The only thing is the spring in the lid is not working. I love this kettle. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I have had one of these for 5 years with no problems.

I've had one of these for many years. Issues I've had with it: 1) Lid popping up of its own accord. I dismantled the lid and cleaned and lubed the mechanism, before reassembly. It worked fine for a long time after that. If I hadn't bought an updated model of the Hot Cup, I'd have repeated this procedure. 2) One of the blue LEDs became erratic, before stopping working. I suspect a dodgy connection, but it's not worth stripping it down to fix. 3) Base not working. I had to disassemble it to re-seat the contacts. 4) Leak from base causing house RCD to trip. This possibly caused 3). There are translucent seals at the base of the transparent pipes, inside the kettle. Mine had worked their way loose. I carefully pushed them back in with a long-handled screwdriver. This solved the leaking problem, in my case. 5) Kettle giving out some water, then pausing, before continuing. This sometimes caused the cup to overflow, if I wasn't there to stop it in time. Descaling the kettle greatly improved this issue. I suspect further treatment would have cured it completely. There are certainly design issues that should be addressed, but in general I've been happy with mine. Happy enough to buy another Hot Cup.

I've had the Tefal express boil model for 7+ years and its only just began to fail . Unfortunately they dont seem to make them any more ... dont know what to get now !

i purchased one of these kettles iv had no problem other than the light not working now,iv had mine around 3 years now...

had mine well over a year and it's been fine I even have the smaller version in my touring caravan which also has been fine I suppose like anything else every so often you get a few bad ones

Own one and its been great, never had an issue.

I've had mine for years and it's absolutely fine. When the lid stuck this week a descaler sprayed on the mechanism sorted it out. No leaks I would suggest yours had been damaged in transit.

My has just started to leak in exactly the same way after 2yrs usage. There does seem to be a fault.

Purchased three units, still working well after many uses. You must just had a faulty one...but there again it got more views.

Had mine over around 5 years and it's been sweet, apart from needing a de-scale once every 12months.

Vitamin C crystals.... off amazon/ebay... Ascorbic acid., about 3-6 tbl spoons with a small amount of distilled or De-ionised water, and keep boiling/ cycling it with the same solution.... letting it sit each time for a while. Boil it but stop it before it poors so the hot solution stays on the boiling chamber. Then let it out and put it back in the top. Repeat 4-6 times. Also use a cup tall enough so that the pouring nozzle can be submerged. That way get rid of any crust on that... Then give it a thorough rising out.

Thanks for this, a lot of reviews are citing problems with this and other models. Other manufacturers also seem to have various issues....the Bosch Filtrino particularly, which sounds like a gang of navvies with a pneumatic drill when it heats the water. How hard can it be to design one of these things. I've seen a commercial dispenser from Lincat but 10x the price of course.

I think my Breville one cup is brilliant for speed, however mine has started leaking at the back of the handle. I would still buy another one

+megan13jash Hi The second one went the same way after a week or two, read the 1 star reviews on Amazon, this is a huge issue. Do not buy one!

Leak is probably poor choice of seal along with variable assembly and poor QC of the moulding. the rest is likely a combination of hard water, exposure to water with plastics that are not up to water exposure and a build up of scale in the unit. Makes me like the kettle on the stove more, at least there all you can have is a leak, and using the cup to put water in it makes using it easy.

Stick with the kettle

Must be a common fault, mines done this and got into the electrical base and trips the mains, unsure if I'll buy another because I'm sure the amount it dispenses also has dropped, will see what other products are about I think.

My unit (over 2 years old) has started to boil a cup and then boil another one straight after. So i can walk away and come back and 2 cups have been poured- no good if there's only one cup underneath.

I purchased one of these in 2017 never had a problem until yesterday when the lid stuck, i cant open it, do think thats due to hard water though

That happened with mine too, you need to descale them every six months - year in hard water areas, lactic acid does the best job by far.

Mine suddenly stopped working after 5 years. I attempted to make another hot drink after about 90 minutes and nothing. The blue light comes on but no moving - not evening trying to boil. complete silence. Any advice??? Mine is the One Cup version - not VKJ318

Have owned this model for many years. The only problem is if you fill it more than half way it automatically reboils and dispenses unless to press the stop button.

I've had 2 and both have done the same after about a year or so. Great product but reluctant to buy another one. Contacted Brevile, no reply.

This turns green from Algie inside where it is near impossible to clean

You obviously have a faulty one. Return it under warranty. Mine has never leaked.

My lid just started sticking so I just leave it open now so I can fill it up again!

Get some spray descaler, spray the mechanism then rinse and it works fine.

We are getting little black grit at the bottom of cup

Mine did the same thing, started leaking everywhere

very useful advice for anyone looking for a water dispenser, as I am!

I bought one of these today and can't work out how to empty it. I tipped it backwards into the sink, but when I stood it upright, water came pouring out of the nozzle and all over the floor! Hopefully someone will see this and tell me how to empty it. Cheers.

Why are you emptying it? The whole point of them is you fill them then use them up then refill again.

Ours has just started leaking. 13 months old!!

I never liked mine, the turn button is really hard to turn and only half fills my cup, theirs also no filter on these so soon they will clog with limescale, 9 months in and looking to replace it

Obviously you had a bad unit, I had the older version for couple of years used constantly throughout the day every day and still works as well as day one, I also have this version at work and is used more than my other one again still works as new, so happy I will buy the same again if or when they finally do pack up, shame you branded the whole lot instead of the odd dud one. Yes I am aware how long ago you uploaded vid.

Awful kettles. I also purchased the one they called the one cup and it dispenses only partial cups of water and then over boils and looks like it might explode. It's boils and boils and doesn't turn off and looks like it might kill you with explosive hot water. Awful don't buy be safe. Save your money and don't buy from this awful company
