I love hearing your whole story Aivars! ❤️❤️ such an inspiration! My goal is to make an indie app that makes enough money that I can live off of too! This is the year it’s going to happen!

Yeah, it was long and bumpy ride :) I'm still working to feel comfortable to cut freelancing work, hope to be there in 2025.

Big nerd Ranch. That’s the OG of iOS books. Sad that they are not actively publishing new versions now. You have taken us Seniors back to nostalgic moments

Hey Aivars this video is top notch. You have actually reignited my interest in indie app development. Like you, I have been at this for over ten years. During the first few years, I tried my hand at indie app dev and even mobile games but since it made me no money, I gave up and started freelancing as a developer. I am ready to try again.

My indie apps were cooking on slow burn during the years. I guess it dosen't hurt to play around a release small indie apps time to time. Eventually that can replace freelancing. Glad this video inspired you!

How do you find a category or a niche for the first app? I have a crazy idea about building a simple warehouse/stock management system for small businesses. It would be an app and web-based solution that integrates with 2 to 3 large e-commerce platforms.

If you have real customers who needs this product you can try to build it, but sounds like a big and complicated project.

Thank you for your content, it is truly inspiring! I would like to ask you what criteria you use to know if it is worth continuing to invest time in a particular app or starting a new project.

That really depends on many aspects and sometimes you would like to work on the app just because you build it for yourself.

Thanks for sharing your journey Aivers🙏 I very enjoyed listening to it! Hope you will have the time to answer, I have questions which bother me for few days now: how indie mobile devs make profitable businesses? More precisely, do they ship “a lot of iOS apps” with average designs and no monetization and then, analyze which ones have the most potential and push them? How did you do on your side? Did you monetize at the very beginning (first release)? Or just shipped and see how it goes?

When you implemented inApp purchases once it takes a few hours to add them to another app, so usually I have them in all new projects. But approach is the same, build a few smaller apps, see which one has potential and start generating sales and downloads, double down on winners.

@@AivarsMeijers I see Aivars, thanks for you answer 🙏 I’m gonna ship few apps and see how it goes. Then select the ones who have potential for monetization and ASO improvements.

Hi, Aivars! 1. Do you try to create games? Maybe simple logical games. Is it good idea in your opinion? 2. What kind of monetization in your opinion is the best for the app?

I do not develop games because that is completely different category and it is very competitive as well. Subscriptions works the best for my Apps.

There is saying that if you build products you should create painkillers and not a vitamins. So try to address and solve real problem, solve it and users will be happy to pay. If you are looking fastest way to earn money, that will be in games with micro transactions. Selling gems, etc.

Solve problems of other people it's the only way. No matter what app you make it, might be clone of another app to some extent but you need to address the problem of apps you are competing with. How am I saying this?, already own dating startup which makes 100k USD a year in sales. Failed 4 apps too. As I tried to copy other apps without solving issues, so it's a lesson.
