One tip: pick a good theater with the comfy roomy seats, and it’s a good experience! I had the recliners with room in front where I never had to get up to let anyone exit or leave the row, saw it in 3D matinee for $12 a ticket. No complaints at all!!

I really liked the movie, sure the dialog was a little corny at times and gave me fast and furious Vin diesel "family is everything" vibes sometimes, but it was a great family movie and looked ridiculous and when you find out that every underwater scene was motion captured you just appreciate it even more.

I kinda figured one’s investment in the film would be determined in how you felt about the kids. The “Boring” section of the film was my favorite section. Totally invested in Kiri, and liked the younger son’s subplot with the Whale. Plus all the underwater stuff. Liked it far better than the first, and I’m hyped for the 3rd. If this is really a long epic about the different generations of this family, then I think Cameron will have something that over the long term will stand the test of time. His Star Wars.

I concur, Sean. The middle of the movie was perhaps the most intriguing to me. There was a bunch of good stuff about this. The whole outcast situation with the whale was relatable and tied into the battle at the end of the movie. I really liked the daughters but i think that killing off the oldest son made a bit of sense here as well as the adoption of Spider at the end of the movie. I'd have to assume that Spider somehow gets an avatar of his own. I'd like that for his character but there is something about him staying human that can sort of tie together the Na'Vi and humans. I'd have to go off a ledge here and say that towards the end of this series that the Na'Vi and humans come together as one. I really would enjoy it if that is the case, but if not, then it's no dilemma.

@@briannerk3373 oh give me a break😂.. it was clearly established in this movies expedition, Neteryi never really embraced Spider (due to past relationships with sky people). Even with Neteryi and Jake saved the kids, spider fell and kiri was like “OMG spider fell” and Neteryi said “let’s go!” insinuating she doesn’t care for spider. That’s why spider retaliated by saving his na’vi father because he feels apart from the kids, that’s the only true connection he has with someone. It will be interesting to see spider and Neteryis relationship in the 3rd movie. Who knows, maybe spider gets a difference of heart and join the humans🤷‍♂️

The problem is most people thought this was too long, but I wanted more, I wanted them to spend more time developing the characters that will be appearing in the sequel. I needed more time with Spider as it seems he will end up heel turning or even the one who kills his dad in the end. My 8 year old sat through this film with no problems on the length and in fact she wanted more also, so I guess if you thought the movie was too long, it's just maybe not for you and you had the wrong energy going into the movie.

Back in September when Avatar 1 was re-released in 4k remastered Imax 3D Laser it had black bars on the left and right. So did the clip for Avatar 2 and it looked amazing. Now that part 2 has been released it doesn't have the black bars on the side. Meaning the resolution is lower. I also had issues with my second viewing of Dolby Cinema 3D where it looked flat and lower frame rate. I spoke to the manager about it, and I've also seen some people talking about it online.

it was genuinely a bad movie. SO many dumb shots just to show off visuals, like yeah i get it you have good CGI. Where is the story though? there was absolutely no story. It felt dumb and cheap that they reincarnated the marine leader, they wanted him to have a redemption arc where he cares about his son but then they take every opportunity to make him overly evil for no reason and that redemption just is forgotten about. The kids don't seem to be able to learn from past mistakes, they keep endangering themselves in the most ridiculous ways. Everything is so clearly telegraphed, we can see from a mile away that the water na'vi kids are going to put the younger son in a dangerous position and it was so obvious that his elder brother was going to die. The story is so weak, why the hell are the human forces expending all these resources to take out one na'vi? We find out that Earth is dying and all of humanity is ultimately going to come to this planet...but you want to go after 1 specific na'vi? And he decides to leave behind his entire army that is seemingly conducting successful guerilla attacks against the humans why? no idea. why have we never heard of these water Na'vi? No idea, no mention of any other type of na'vi in the first movie at all but conveniently here they are. So we have forest na'vi, sea na'vi, wanna bet that we will have mountain na'vi and desert na'vi? Some weak connection of the elements, earth, water , air and fire? The pacing of this movie is so off, the first movie did way better in this regard, we were introduced to new elements at relevant times and it never felt overwhelming nor spoonfeeding. A personal opinion now, I am so sick of movies that just keep ramming thinly veiled climate change BS down our throats. Yeah, pollution is bad, we need to get renewable energy, but why are humans being depicted as these genocidal maniacs and other species are shown to be these morally virtuous nature loving hipies that are just way better than us in every single way

This is what I will say about Avatar: The Way of Water. Films with over 3 hour runtime exist, (Titanic, LOTR, Endgame, Casino, The Godfather) and their runtime is never discussed nor is it against their enjoyability factor. With new streaming shows, most people do not care about watching a 10 one-hour per episode series. The bringing up of the runtime is irrelevant to a film’s quality. Second, while the plot of the first film is similar to other works, most of the “film bros”/movie reviewers watch comic book films which in terms are copy/paste stories just with a different superhero. It is also strange to mention Avatar’s age gap between its sequel when films like Top Gun:Maverick, Incredibles 2 and even Rambo took longer breaks and truly did not have an excuse to wait so long for their sequels to come out. James Cameron’s secret to his successful films is telling a simple story with a big visual spectacle. The Way of Water has a very interesting story in which the children are front and center. The Sully kids are their own people and while they do make mistakes, in real life children/teens commit these same mistakes. Disobedience, proving oneself to parents and listening to peer pressure are very realistic and sometimes traumatizing moments. Having the “boring” time to learn about the kids' dynamics with one another is important in order to care about their kidnapping in the later part. Films like The Breakfast Club and American Graffiti show scenes of teens being teens and that further explores those characters as beyond stereotypes. The Metkayina people are different from the Omaticaya people and having that moment of learning is important. Jake and Neytiri take a back seat as characters but it is important as by the end we get a sense of the entire Sully family and where they will go in Avatar 3.

I'm not sure if Sigourney Weaver's voice was pitch-shifted, because in an interview she mentioned that she was studying how teenage girls sound, particularly the pitch she said, to of course try and match that. - I'm not so sure if that's doable. I mean, if you have enough control over your voice, like say a voice-actor or singer. I'm a vocalist myself and I can imagine, but it's difficult. - so perhaps it's not very doable for an entire role, at least one that's actual physical acting an entire body. - But the pitch-shift was only slight, perhaps not even enough if she was (apparently) supposed to be 14. Because she still sounded a bit too mature at times, so I kept thinking like 17 or so, that point where you're becoming an adult or whatever, and even girls tend to get a somewhat "lower" voice. - They could easily have altered it even more with other manipulation-tools. It's the timbre, not the pitch, and there has been software for that for decades.

Aliens is a simple war film but at the heart of it is a battle of 2 mothers. I agree with the fact that they focus too much on the "stupid boys". First of all, they act like they're a bunch of present-day (as in, today) kids who run around speaking English with slang from Earth, while they're on PANDORA, this planet that you need to travel to for like 6 years to get there, in the 2150s or something, when they're raised by natives there, as well as a parent that was a disciplined Marine. - WHY were they starting and ending every sentence with "bro"?... Did Cameron just tell them to "just do what you would do"?... Cause it would probably be accurate. - Anyway, I wish they had focused more on Kiri for instance, because she was fascinating and I wanted to know more about her. - She had this natural fascination for her environment because of her mother, and it was just wholesome, and they should have gone more in-depth with her as a character. - They only touched upon her struggles with being "different", but it would've been way better if they went deeper on how she's offspring from Grace and all that. - Such a waste. - I honestly didn't even care that one of the boys died, which should made me weep. But I was pretty much indifferent because of the over-exposure and the "bro"-count they racked up.

I know Alex is saying nothing happened in this film, but I really appreciated that they took the time to show us this family and the world around them. They spent way more time on the world and trying to get us to connect with it than the first film did. Three hours is a long time, but now adays we binge watch shows for much longer periods of time. There are definitely some plot contrivances, but they weren't enough to take me out of the film. I was totally engrossed with it the whole way through. If I had to use only one word to describe the film it would be consistent. It felt like a completely natural continuation from the first film in every way, I didn't notice any plot holes, and ALL of the littlest of tiniest details were kept track of. For example, when certain characters needed to be wearing gas masks and when they shouldn't be. I was actively looking for things to take me out of the world, but they weren't there. It felt like I could just sit back and enjoy something for a change and not have to feel cynical about it. Movies aren't allowed to just be movies anymore. There are series and tie ins, and sequels you're always having to think about, but this didn't even feel like a sequel. It felt like I never stopped watching the first movie. It was really refreshing. It's not the best movie in the world, I think some things some characters do don't make sense, but it was all still cohesive and tightly put together enough that I could forgive that. I'd watch it again in theaters, I enjoyed it that much.

Character development and worldbuilding, and just the audience's general emotional investment in the story, are often the biggest weak points for movies like this, but for Avatar they're the movie's biggest strength IMO. Yeah the plot is generic and nothing super special, but who cares? It doesn't need to be special, it just needs to serve as a way to create stakes and make us worry for the characters and world we're emotionally invested in. Tons of movies with a similar plot, or even a more special and more interesting plot, end up being incredibly boring because the emotional investment just isn't there.

Loved the story, characters and world of Pandora but the visuals are a visual spectacle and for didn't expect 3d to feel so natural and give such immense depth. I also liked how in the middle of the movie we were exploring the water and learning about new animals and fishes. I was so mesmerized by it but also because I'm in love with Pandora so it was very interesting to me. And I'm really grateful they included it.

It all comes down to writing. And Cameron turned out a weak script. He really did borrowed from three of his movies. And the plot was good the first time he used it ( first movie). Throwing in random characters like monkey boy and Sigourney's special pregnancy was strange and had no continuity with the two movies. Of course Sully's kids made sense because they were his kids. Yes it was nice to see the world again. The superior CGI was just that- superior. But it just seems like the best looking tv series ever at this point. Let me guess how the next movies will go- He's going to another tribe with skills unique to their region and then, here comes the humans trying to take another natural resource from them. Rinse/ repeat. He will do this for another movie before Sully is leader of the whole planet where they will have one final 3 + hour movie where they rally together (asemble!) to defeat the humans on earth (which probably won't happen) or both races come together and live happily ever after. Sounds about right.

Jake in Avatar 2 is more akin to Sarah Conner in T2 with Lo'ak being akin to John. Sarah Conner isn't the main character of T2, John is. Same with Avatar 2, they just have Jack as the opener/closer since the Avatar FRANCHISE is Jake's story.

I'm with Joe. Wasn't expecting anything great. In my opinion, I loved this movie way more than the first, exactly because what Alex said: the first movie is just a repetition of a common movie/serie trope. This time the focus was more on the familie and this specific part of the world (the water/sea part). I thought at the first part of the movie "here we go again with the same stuff like tge first movie", but then you got the middle part, which was way more character building and potential setups. For people like OJ and Alex, this might be boring and unusual viewing this as a separate movie, but this is made with a universe of media content including a couple more movies in mind. First one was the pilot, checking if this IP would be welcomed by the public. The second one then deepens out the story and characters and the world and setting up storyplots for the future. This is not needed for a solo movie or a triology, but it is perfect for 8 movies and potentially other media.

I agree with Joe here, I really like this film, but it was definitely a transition point where we are being introduced to this new cast of characters. However for the life of me I don't understand the other two's criticisms of the villains killing animals "just to be bad guys." Humans are capable of evil when they are trying to force others to do their bidding, it's just that simple. The Navi hold nature and by extension animals near to themselves culturally and emotionally, and the bad guys know this. It's certainly not a stretch that they would kill animals to try and strong arm the Navi to do their bidding in that context..

I intended to skip this one entirely. Nothing about it interested me in the trailers or the discussions. My girlfriend chose it last week as the movie for movie night so there is that. After watching it, I wish I could get those 3 hours back, honestly. I ended up seeing the movie in two sessions because I was bored as hell. I disagree with AJ for the most part. I'm more on Alex's and OJ's camp. I felt the story is basically the same as the first, but at least the first had the advantage that it was novel and maintained my interest for that reason. Villains motivation was terribly shown emotionally and felt 1 dimensional. Dialogue is one of my main problems. It kept taking me out of the movie every 10 minutes. The kids, in particular, I disliked the most, but the rest of the characters wasn't much better. It felt like written by a highscholer. The family dynamic could have been very interesting, Sully rising his children as soldiers, not kids. This was even set up early and in a believable way, but it was dropped right after and did not get a satisfying resolution. The whole "let's get to know the water navi tribe" story line, again, we had already seen in the first one so nothing really new there other than water creatures wich is not enough to maintain interest. I did not understand why leaving the forest navi was such a necessity when the stakes were the same with the water navi other than an excuse to introduce all these new things. The things I did like were the acting and delivery. Actors did great with what was handed to them. CGI, animation, and scenes were all top of the industry. The score was great, too. Not enough to carry a movie, much less a 3 hour one. I would not recommend seeing this. Go watch the first one instead if you're interested in the universe and story.

This movie is BAD, story is very random and illogical felt like a setup for movie 3, felt like just a barrage of random cool vfx shots, the children were written by someone who was homeschooled and just continue to do stupid things just to push the story, every character lacks logic it goes on and on

Is this movie still 30fps? The stalling of the progress to 60fps movies is what killing theatres, because at home I can use frame interpolation solutions.
