One of the strongest things dead space had going for it was the enemy variety and design. The Necromorphs all had very interesting and iconic designs and ways of attacking. Seeing the main enemy type with the blade-like arm claws was akin to seeing a xenomorph for the first time. This game has nothing like that. Everything is some kind of tentacle zombie, and it gets boring really fast.

Actually, there is a German short movie ("Staplerfahrer Klaus", translates to "Claus, forklift truck operator") from the late 90s/early 2000s in the vein of work safety instruction videos (even with an overvoice by a speaker who is famous in Germany for traffic safety videos) that is pretty much that - it starts out innocent enough as if it was the real thing and quickly evolves into super gory fun. It still is brutally hilarious! And would fit this ticket very well. Highly recommended.

There's a few things they didn't really touch on in this review that I'd like to list for anyone interested - You climb through vents, holes in walls, and shimmy through doors, cracks in walls quite a bit in this game. You can't do anything during these sections except go forwards or backwards. You quickly realise that these are safe zones, no matter how much they try to scare you in these sections with sound design or something visual, you know nothing is actually going to happen because you can't use weapons / combat in these areas, so you never really feel scared. A horror game that keeps the tension going in these areas would be something like Alien Isolation, where, even in vents you know the alien could come barreling in at any moment to get you. Also the pace in which you move through the vents / cracks etc is very slow (almost like the game is using it to load the next section) and if you accidentally walk back into the vent, the animation to then turn around and get back out is excruciatingly slow. On PS4, (probably Xbox One too) it feels like a next gen game being played on old hardware, which of course it is! BUT, it really feels like it too. Framerate drops & stuttering are CONSTANT, if you impale a couple enemy's onto a spike wall, and hit them with your baton to get the items to fall off their bodies, the frames drop to like 5 - 10 fps for a couple seconds. Textures also have a problem with loading, especially if you move through the game too fast, same with dialogue during some moments, move too fast & they become jumbled. I completed the game 3 times. Once on Medium (took me almost 16 hours 😔). Once on Hard, as a New Game Plus, (took me almost 10 hours). & then I did a speed run of the game on Easy, new game plus, (took me 4 & a half hours). The reason I mention this is, I didn't have 1 crash playing on Medium or Hard difficulty, but as soon as I played it on Easy & ran through the game at a fast pace, the game was constantly crashing & going to the 'send error report' screen, it's as if the game has a real issue with loading things on the PS4, and if you move through it too quickly, the texture loading, the framerate drops, & the crashing become a major issue. There's a few other things I could mention in this long ass rant, like, I beat a boss, after a few attempts, and then glitched through the map, was met with a loading screen & then the boss fight started again from fresh... :/ The game has a weird screen issue when it's like there's faint lines running across the whole screen and all over the textures... The inventory system in the game was pretty bad imo, it makes you run through half the game with 6 inventory slots, baring in mind, health injectors don't stack, and bullets stack in pretty small amounts, so you're constantly going be leaving things behind because there's just no room to take it with you. Also buy/sell stations are often in the worst spots, you'll need one for like an hour, you'll have an inventory full of things to sell & will have to leave so much good stuff behind, and later on you'll encounter 2 buy stations in a 5 minute window, it's kinda ridiculous... Rant over, I cba anymore. I can't give anymore of my time to this game 😭

The game has many, many problems but what you are describing is a 'you' issue. There is a reason the game gives you the GRIP, which allows you to throw enemies away. There is a reason why you can catch enemy projectiles with the GRIP and throw it right back at them. Yes it is a limited resource but if you use positioning and effective use of GRIP, you will realize that the game is not hard at all. I completed it on my first playthrough on Maximum Security with probably 20 or so deaths in the entire campaign.

It would be really interesting to have a zombie game where you are a bunch of prisoners trying to survive an outbreak. All the guards left, only the prisoners are the ones left uninfected for hundreds of miles. So you basically have to get the best prison engineers to start Mcgyver'ing zombie killing things. Resource management galore. Have to find a way to survive long term and short. Sadly this game decided to go more with the BAD aspects of dead space and nothing else.

I remember getting to chapter 4 or 5 (couldn't keep track honestly), and started wondering, "when am I going to start finding out the story?" That should've been a red flag right away, and the game was more of a slog because there wasn't anything I was working towards. I wish they would try again, this time listening to fan's feedback, Like more enemy types, more boss battles, more imagitive set pieces, More weapons, A large skill tree that allows you to play how you want, with more of a focus on range combat, longer story with more stakes, more wide open areas to explore, stuff worth finding to collect while exploring, Few extra cooler suits, Then maybe do something cool for replays & adding life to the game- by adding in multiple random thing's that can happen in certain area's- so say in 1 room the character walks in an it triggers 1 of the 2 or 3 random thing's that can happen for example, 1- time it triggers a unique boss battle that would require a puzzle to help defeat, 2nd time instead a endless wave of enemy's start pouring in from different access points an not only do you have to fight the enemy back you have to seal up those few access points for a certain amount of time, An the 3rd time it could be a qte style set piece that is very intense, These random thing's could be sprinkled around like 20 or so places throughout the journey & that would really add a ton of extra legs to replays, it would keep the player on thier toes an keep it fresh never knowing what they might encounter in those area's, An there is a few other thing's that could be done to make the game better, More varied combat encounters with mixes of different enemy's, Finding a pool of random truly unique weapons or suits, it would really make the game a lot more personalized, bam, that would be a masterpiece, that of done right would have player's in love.

My brain and common sense work so I've never needed a "opinion" I mean review to tell me IF I have interest in playing a game and i'm not poor so if I buy a game and its bad, then its bad and I could care less, I just delete it and move on.
