    When Pinhead discusses exchange with Voight, its not a new wish that he is granted. It's like customer service. He was unhappy with the previous wish, at which point she tells him, "gifts cannot be ungiven." But they can be exchanged, she figures out that his choice of liminal configuration was not correct, so she exchanges it for leviathan which represents power. When Pinhead is finished, she waits for the girl who gets her wish. First Configuration is Lament or Life Second Configuration is Lore or Knowledge Third Configuration is Lauderant or Love Fourth Configuration is Liminal or Sensation Fifth Configuration is Lazarus or Resurrection Sixth Configuration is Leviathan or Power She is offered the choice of one of them. Riley refuses to choose, even though Pinhead entices her to choose resurrection, Voight has already told her that its a trick, they never give you what you think it will be. So she chooses nothing. Pinhead interprets that as Choosing Lament or Life. To live suffering, knowing what she has done, the people that she has sent to their deaths, a long painful existence. In a sense, its as demented a choice as any of the other configurations, if death was a choice it might be a more suitable one than living a life knowing the suffering and pain that you caused on others, so in a sense Lament is just another form of torture. It's also the default configuration which is why the box is restored to the Lament Configuration.

    To lament is to grieve, to mourn. A lamentation is the passionate expression of grief or sorrow; weeping.

    We know what Life, Power, and Sensation is and I'm assuming Resurrection would be like they kill you in exchange for returning someone you love. My question then is I wonder what they would do if you chose Love or Knowledge? I'm drawing blanks on how they could make those 2 fucked up

  • @JohnSaucier

    @@MrFredstt My best guess for lore or knowledge would be you are granted knowledge beyond your means, but the inability to use it in someway, perhaps taken to the hell dimension and hung like a stuck pig, but happy in the knowledge you know the meaning of life? For Love, I would also guess that since every choice is basically cursed, to even get to choose lament, you must have already sacrificed people and not have to live with it. So love would likely be that whatever you love most in the world is given to you and then taken away. Or worse Pinhead tells you that to even come this far, you must be a person whose ambitions, and ego drive you, you ignore the feelings, and emotions of others, and care nothing for the needs of anyone else but yourself, therefore you can only truly love yourself, and then they take you away.

    @@MrFredstt Wouldn't knowledge have a similar outcome to franks torture from the book? In that all that information absorbed by the brain sends you into a sort of overload? In the book it's more about sensations, but I think the same would apply to knowledge. Still thinking on love though 🤔

  • @tylerrichardson3034
    @tylerrichardson3034 Жыл бұрын

    For Alex's comment about the two wishes for one configuration, it wasn't two wishes, he made his original wish and the Priest told him that he can't return a wish, but he can make an exchange, so he wasn't using a new one, he was just altering his original one. So the wish was unused so Riley could use it.

    It wasn't so much 'whoever solved the box, got targeted' in the originals. In the 2nd Movie, the blonde haired girl solves the puzzle for the Doctor but when the Cenobites go to attack her, Pinhead states "Stop. It's not hands that call us, it's desire"

The way puzzle box works in the 2022 movie really shows the writers had no idea what Hellraiser is and didn't understand first thing about it; let alone concepts of demons, sin and redemption explored in the story. I enjoyed it too. It certainly felt like a Hellraiser. A bit formulaic at times. The first Hellraiser really stood out in that it didn't follow conventional horror tropes. It was really a mystery where you're being drawn into an increasingly horrifying rabbit hole. And this one does something similar albeit with the more typical "group of friends getting involved in shit that gets them killed" kind of way. I was expecting more gore and mutilations though. For the first half of the movies, a lot of the deaths was implied. It got better later on, but I think in terms of body horror, the 2nd one would still be the most extreme (and why it holds a special place for me).

    See I always like the original where the box is basically going after people who have desire as opposed to someone just getting nicked because I feel like that is what made it even worse because anyone can just not open the box or open the box you know it's a very conscious choice but you're greed and your desire could be less controllable and you actually have to resist those things that are there and if you don't well then the box will summon the cenobites and they will claim you I mean basically it's like you could force someone else to open a who has absolutely no desire and does not wish to know anything and that's not going to keep you safe no matter what you do you're greed and your desire is what will make call forth the centabytes and they will come for you

    I still think the desire is there tbh. Like, ok, REALISTICALLY the only time anyone SHOULD be getting nicked is when they're messing with the box. It's only because Riley accidentally survived that it seems the cenobytes had to implement different rules. Like, Riley WAS tempted to open it, it's just that she didn't fulfill her end of the deal so to speak. If anything it might be even more torturous to have people close to you ripped away...

    The script could have used some work imho to make the characters less one dimensional. For example: The mansion could have been a "getaway" type of recovery for the MC, who finds the box and becomes addicted to solving it and accidentally killing her friends as they try to help her. At the end, she finds out it was a plot by the billionaire, so she kills him with the Leviathan configuration and she chooses to resurrection in order to "bring back her friends". However, she is then made into a leader of a cenobite gash herself and her friends are resurrected as her cenobite followers. Of course, plot and drama would be added, but yea - that would have tied the book with the comics as far as lore goes.

    No UK release date for this, so annoying. (UPDATE: Director David Bruckner did offer some insight into the international release. “To the Hellraiser fans outside the US, Spyglass and Paramount are working to firm up release dates,” he tweeted. “I’m told we should have answers in the next week or so.” If Paramount is handling international distribution, that means there are three potential avenues of release. The first is that the film will stream on Paramount Plus later this year, the second is that it’ll head to blu-ray in 2023, and the final option is that it will get a theatrical release later in the year or in early 2023.) So basically we won’t get to see the film until 2023. This kind of shit makes my blood boil 😡. We always miss out I’m sick of it.
