@@TheThamesmen Very early in her career for the first ~6 months after she was discovered, she used her full name "Aurora Aksnes" until September 2014 when she and her management probably decided to drop the last name, she said it pretty funny in an interview in March 2015: "Nobody was able to say Aksnes, so I had to do something. At the same time, I didn't want a stage name either. It's so weird if, as an artist, you're supposed to be someone other than yourself. I'm just me, so I kept my own first name. It seems so weird to suddenly announce, 'My name is ... Queen B, or something like that. Maybe I just don't see myself as an artist, but just a person doing a job. People in ordinary professions don't have alternative names while they're working!"

I always think "It Happened Quiet" is my favorite Aurora performance, and maybe it is, but then I remember how bloody brilliant Churchyard at KEXP is, and then I remember about 5 or 10 other performances, and then I remember how perfect it was traipsing around Bergen, Norway last autumn listening to her last LP, and how great it was seeing her live in Central Park a year ago. Conclusion: OK, she damn good. Many thanks for this!

I really do enjoy the humor yet intelligent analysis of your reactions. I would like to recommend another Norwegian band: Kalandra. Their lead singer has an absolutely hauntingly beautiful voice. Their live performance of "Brave New World" performed at Kulturkirken Jacob is stunning. I assume this is inspired by Aldus Huxley's dystopian novel of same name.

Awesome reaction! She has been on tour all over the world. 9-10 months every year since 2015. The US included. She actually prefer to not be super big. It's not her goal with her music. She couldn't care less about the fame and a lot of money. All she want is to connect with her fans. She IS really big in some countries though. They love her in Latin America. She had concerts this year with huge audiences. I think the biggest one was in Brazil with 80.000 people.

Seriously I’ve followed Aurora for 7 years and she has never craved to become a mainstream artist for her music goes far deeper her words of poetry are a as her mother told her a medicine for people,Aurora calls her songs her little children and every time she performs them you can see the love that she has for them.and her fanbase simply love her simply because she has always stayed true to herself and what she believes music is all about despite the pressure from her own record company to release as they put it radio friendly music and let’s be honest if you can fill 80,000 arenas which she is doing why worry,I always find it strange that people think that to be big you have to as they put it crack the US or UK as if the rest of the world doesn’t count, Aurora and her music reaches everywhere for she is simply special and unique writing music from the heart,if you want to listen to songs with the same old lyrics and cliches that you’ve heard hundreds of times before then stick with your mainstream music, but for me Aurora is the essence of what art form of music should be all about.only one word for Aurora.GENIUS ❤️

In another interview she said it's strange to work against something that makes her uncomfortable, as she doesn't like attention and doesn't really want fame. She just absolutely loves writing songs and being in the studio. That being said, I agree more should know about her music 😊

She is getting pretty big: 5.2M youtube subscribers 1.3B views, 4.8M on TikTok, 2.7M on instagram. But compared to her talent I don't think she is that well known yet. She has toured in the US and Canada many times now, last time in May+June 2022. The first shows she did in the US was all the way back in Oct 2014 at age 18 in NYC CMJ Music Marathon. She has been on Jimmy Fallon, 2 x Stephen Colbert, 2 x Seth Meyers, 2 x Carson Daly.

This was just mesmerizing. Aurora is simply one of the most engaging artists anywhere in the world today. A stunning performance. Lazy Len said on your last reaction to Aurora that he would do a deep dive into her music to understand her more. Sadly, that came off the rails and I only watched one new song, it was awesome, yet I don't remember its name. It was good though. Shame on me. Alex, you raise an interesting point; how has Aurora not broken big time in the US, or here in Australia. Aurora is massive on KZread (deservedly so). Perhaps, we don't consume music like we used to. Radio is hit and miss; it is broken into genres, so people don't get such a wide exposure to music they would not normally seek. There are stations for almost every genre, so people are isolated into silos, removed from other inputs. I see it as market segmentation gone mad. And, we have no Top of the Pops, or Countdown type programs anymore, where up-and-coming bands can gain exposure and launch their careers. Aurora is a prime example of why KZread channels like The Thamesmen are so important in exposing amazing artists to their subscribers. In a short time, we can skip genres, countries and variations within each. We might not like them all, but we can all enjoy the process of expanding our horizons.

No less than Bjork was reportedly in the audience for this one too. I would highly recommend you stick to this set, and check out "All Is Soft Inside" next. George said at one point ‘Don’t forget where you came from’ and on those lines please dont forget your roots and bring some ‘London Grammar’ to the channel as the voice of Hannah Reid is every bit as brilliant as Aurora with a similar haunting quality in their songs. ‘Wasting my young years’, ‘Rooting for you’ or ‘Hell to the liars’ would be good starting points but they have a host of great songs.

Oddly, I recently had the thought, "it's been a long time since The Thamesmen did an Aurora reaction..." Maybe there is some sort of cosmic connection . . . or maybe I need to get back on my medical treatment? Anyway, loved the performance!

Hello, seems like the two of you are still stuck from the 70’s and 80’s? I was chk. out your playlist and noticed “I put a spell on you” by the legendary performer Screaming Jay Hawkins. Perhaps if you want to do another reaction, you’ll be interested in Angelina Jordan cover performance of the same song. She performed this in 2014 at the age 9, and she is also from Norway.

@@TheThamesmen thank you for your response, my experience with the 80’s was in combat in Beirut, Lebanon and later the Caribbean’s in some god forsaken place called Granada. Wish that I could had traded places with your 80’s experience. At any rate cheers to all and stay frosty.
