Cooking up Southern charm, one recipe at a time.
My name is Monique, and I started Divas Can Cook back in 2009 when I noticed a shortage of authentic Southern recipes like the kind I made with my grandma in her kitchen. I’m talking about that Elberton, Georgia cooking infused with North Carolina Appalachia flare. (Hey, I’m a Southern mountain girl; what can I say!) Authentic golden fried green tomatoes, hamburger steak, cornbread, biscuits and gravy, forgotten tea cakes, and fresh blueberry cobblers are the recipes that feel like home.
This channel is full of authentic Southern family recipes, recipes that I’ve developed and tweaked to perfection, and a few non-traditional ones sprinkled throughout for good luck. I hope that I will not only build your kitchen confidence, but become a trusted source for go-to Southern recipes for you and your family!
Subscribe now for a fun, Southern-style cooking channel with the BEST tried and true, from-scratch recipes!

Buttermilk can be expensive. I have bought buttermilk only to have it go bad before I needed it. Now make my own. For every cup of milk you add a tablespoon of vinegar. Let sit for 15 minutes and you have buttermilk. You can use lemon juice as well.

For those who don't have time to click links in the description and just need the ingredients (in case you checking your fridge and realize you don't have buttermilk lol)here you go. 2 cups of self rising flour 1 stick of butter 1 cup of buttermilk FYI-You can also make buttermilk by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of( your choice milk) let it sit for about 30 minutes . All purpose flour is ok if you add baking soda and baking powder to your mix depends on preference for dense or fluffy biscuits.

I went to culinary school and my instructor was essentially a master chef, not actually a certified master chef but Had all the requirements just didn’t want to take the time to go and get the certification. He taught me to make biscuits almost exactly this way, the only difference is i learned 3-2-1 so that’s 3 Cups flour 2 sticks butter 1 cup milk. But all the techniques were exactly as demonstrated here for the most part. The point is not all recipes have to be complicated to be amazing, 3 ingredients biscuits if made properly will be the best biscuits you’ve ever had I can almost guarantee it.

Oh my these are the best, I made these but used 3 cup of self rising flour, 1 and 1. I had to add a little bit more of buttermilk. Oh my it was so good! I did twist when cutting but I didn't read that until I was baking still Delicious thank you, I'm 70 and my first time making a biscuit!
