Capacitive touch controls are a big no-no for me. Actual buttons are always infinitely better. Good luck fighting with unintentional touching while driving. Better keep your hands off the wheel :)

I agree in general, you can make buttons super sleek and still have that tactile feel. I think that might be why they put almost every control on or right next to the steering wheel so after a bit, your muscle memory kicks in and you know exactly where to push.

Yup. Not only do you have to take your eyes off the road, but I have a condition (that actually has a name, "zombie finger") that my skin doesn't register on touchpads. I can use my iPhone okay, but not the local ATMs nor even my own house thermostat. It sucks.

And what happens when you’re wearing gloves in the winter? This applies to all cars with capacitive “buttons”, not just Ferrari. I don’t know if manufacturers are doing this to save the cost of tooling up little buttons or just to look futuristic, regardless they plain suck.

Whenever Doug reviews a car, I check if I can download it for Assetto Corsa. It was a super surreal experience to sit in a Lambo SVJ in VR, while listening to Doug point out the quirks and features as I'm looking at them, like he's sitting in the car with me at a dealership. Another one is the Corvette C8. I had Doug's video on the car's infotainment display for that one. Car makers really should release official models of their cars more often like this. It's great marketing.

This car does in fact have an (active) rear spoiler, aside from the (non-active) one at the rear window which you've pointed out. Top gear discussed this in their article about it, titled "Ferrari 296 GTB: here's how the tech works" under the heading "Aero - rear spoiler" and I've seen it deploy out of its hiding place in a few videos, too. It looks very strange but kind of cool, too. It's that black strip which runs between the two rear taillights, right below the lip of the trunk. It deploys almost straight up, vertically. It's very well-hidden and doesn't deploy often so it's not strange it is overlooked. I wouldn't know it either if I hadn't seen it deploy in a video and wanted to know what the heck that thing was that I saw sliding out of the rear. Good review Doug

Its interesting that ferrari and porsche have such different design philosophies when it comes to steering wheel. Porsche offers a wheel completely devoid of buttons while ferrari cover theirs with essential vehicle functions. I’d be very happy with a F136 F 4.5L NA Flatplane V8. It sounds better than all V6, all crossplane V8s, most V10s, and most V12s. But if there were more lax regulations, there could very well be a supercharged 4.5L V8 Ferrari. It will make it sound even better because superchargers make the exhaust louder instead of quieter unlike turbochargers. It will sound like an angrier F458 Italia with a whine similar to the turbocharger in a V6 turbo hybrid F1 car.

I ripped the GTB tester up and down the freeway and not only is engine note not a concern, it sounds fantastic. With obstructions removed in the aftermarket, the exhaust noise is downright heavenly. @@rani5752 Crazy story! i had seen the exact car I would get to drive in the wild one day early this year. It had shown up in some local car meets too, however I had missed all of them. about a month later, I go to my local Ferrari dealer's car meet, and after seeing one 296 for the first time ever, I recognize someone from my school. In the most unbelievable turn of events, their dad was the owner of that 296 that I saw before, and after meeting him they invited me over to their house after the car show. They were very nonchalant about it and kind, but inside I was freaking out. So I went over to their home, and in the back garage he has this ferrari batcave including a portofino M, a gorgeous Roma in a unique blue, a mini 250 TR from the little car company, his Rosso Taormina cavalcade SF90 spider which i had also gotten the chance to sit in, and the 296 GTB which I had been chasing since the start of the year. It's a very beautiful car, Verde Pino with an argento nurburgring stripe from the assetto fiorano package. Carbon wheels, aluminum brake calipers, painted shields. I have a copy of the window sticker that he kindly gave me. After pulling it out of the driveway, he offered that I get in and drive it myself. I was stunned but I kept my composure, and I learned what it was like to have my dream fulfilled. again I want to reiterate that this is a 1-in-a-million chance, and that I'm incredibly grateful. some notes about the 296 driving experience: 1. It's FAST. 830HP is no joke. 2. It's light, and fun to drive. He was coaching me to trust the car as I was turning around a bend, and the car responded beautifully. There's something to be said when a car is fun to drive at any speed. 3. The V6 is the best news. produces a ridiculously beautiful note, and the turbo whooshes are a bonus. While I had my fun I still stayed within my limits, given that this was an 800HP RWD 3,200lb supercar and I have minimal experience. After that we switched seats and he was able to show me a little bit more of what it was capable of. Unbelievable experience, amongst the top moments of my life. instagram.com/p/CrYlFv6OXuC/ Here's an image of it at a local car show

Felt like I was seating on a park bench. It was around $404,000. Not worth it for a hybrid V6…I’d much rather a F8, 488 or 458 they are plenty great enough for me and sound glorious with that honest to goodness V8. These V6 or the SF90 won’t have good appreciation in the future the prices of used SF90’s show this. I can see the writing on the walls.

@@jasonknight5863I find myself fitting comfortably in a 2006 BMW Z4 3.0SI as a 6’0” tall person and the seats are soft and comfy. It’s a completely different car than a Ferrari because a 2006 BMW Z4 is considered an entry luxury sports car not a supercar. However, when it comes to seats in a sports car I like it be a similar firmness as a Maingear Forma GT gaming chair.

@@TheV8Pumpkin well we have 12 other cars, Ferrari, Maserati, Volvo, Corvette, 5 Trans Am’s (1 Bandit 77’) and 2 Mercedes and a Porsche. They know me by now I should think taking the Maserati and Ferrari to them for a few years now Ferrari / Maserati dealer. Wasn’t impressed with the Black 296 they had in fact I think it was closer to $500 grand. I was more impressed with the 812 they had black on black with a V12 and over 700 Hp. It sounded like thunder on the show room floor which is why I wanted it. This thing sounded like a 2 Door Alfa Romeo Giulia Quad when started. Definitely not worth the same as the 812 which was slightly used at 6k miles. Ferrari are going downhill now 🤷🏼‍♂️

It would be interesting to know how it compares (overall, not stats-wise) to the 6 cylinder Ford GT.

The 296 GTB kinda reminded me a lot to the 2009 FERRARI 458 ITALIA. Such an amazing car indeed. Hopefully it can compete in FIA WEC as LMGT3 car.

It looks a lot like the Alpha Romero 4C, or at least shares the same platform, but with a larger engine and more power... I like it!

The 4C from Alfa is a 4 cylinder 1.8 this is a 2.9 V6 so it’s like a 4C only with an upgraded engine. It’s no F8/ 488 or 458 though. I’ve been inside of both the 4C and this one and it’s kind of similar size wise. But I’d say the 4C has more room inside.

The roof spoiler is a nice nod to the 308 and 328 Also, I like that the 296 seems like a user-friendly Ferrari without compromising performance like the heavier and more luxurious California T, GTC4 Lusso, etc

I love this car, I think Ferrari created an absolute masterpiece. I only have 2 qualms: the first being the 205mph top speed (thats the same as a 2009 Corvette ZR1) and the second being the exhaust (it looks identical to the one attached to my $25k Civic Sport lol)
