Thanks for putting this game up. Tough loss especially when Marino threw for over 500 yards. But it was nice to be able to see it again along with the home team radio as well !

Was at this game. We knew this was classic Fins V's Jets. Erik McMillan had Marino's number otherwise Marino breaks the record and we win. Ah well, still very fun. Thanks Marino!

This was pretty much the story for most of Marino's career. With a few exceptions, Shula and the front office did a very bad job putting a team around Marino. For the most part, they drafted poorly from 85-95.

That's right. They just needed an above average or maybe just average defense. I was trying to think of the defensive talent they drafted during those years, and I can honestly think of 3 guys who were better than decent. John Offerdahl, Troy Vincent and Tim Bowens. 3 guys in 10 years, and all very spread out. It doesn't help either that Shula was so inexplicably loyal to an absolute failure as a defensive coordinator in Tom Olivadotti. I'll never understand how a team known for defense for Shula's first 12 or so years, went completely helpless the rest of his career. Shame. It was all Dan would have needed for a ring.

@@jmbuff1 I would add Bryan Cox to the list, but you are correct. Horrific drafting for about ten years was the problem.

@@jmbuff1 Add Louis Oliver to the list. The post 85-89 drafts were on the downside of those great Killer B defenses. I would consider Oliver part of the resurgence of the "New School Phins" along w/ Brian Cox, Bowens, Jeff Cross, Klingbeil etc. But I agree with you, Olivadotti's defenses were not aggressive enough to beat Buffalo in the playoffs...when it mattered the most

Bryan Cox and Oliver as well!!but yea the D always let Marino down, but a lot of it was Olividotti,a bad DC!!If only Dan had the D that JJ ended up building, but closer to his prime,I hate to say it but Marino probably woulda venefitted from a coaching change in the early 90's maybe, not late 90's,cuz Shula completely lost touch with the Defensive side of the team, but he didnt have much of a RB threat either, again just missed Ricky Williams,by a few yrs as well!!

Erik McMillian was on his way to Canton after his first 2 years, extremely talented, fast and had good hands for a Safety. Returned a ton of TD's from INT's & fumble recoveries in those first 2 seasons. After 89 he really was just mediocre and kind of fade away.

Typical late 80's Dolphins games: Marino put up huge numbers, but Dolphins lose because they're defense was horrible.

Forgot Tony Franklin ever kicked for Miami, had to be only this season? Him, Mike Lansford of the Rams, Rich Karlis of Denver/Minnesota and Paul McFadden who played for many teams were the trendy barefoot kickers, once the 90s hit you never saw them again.

Loved the 80s era Jets green jerseys, they wore white at home for the latter half of the 80s so in Miami usually and Cleveland would be the only times you would see them wear green.

Two were tipped passes - one of which went right through Clayton's hands, one a hail mary and the other an errant throw as he was hit. The only 'bad' throw INT was the attempted back shoulder throw in the end zone that wasn't far enough outside.
