A couple of things...I remember Larry Girdon (LB) died just before the "83 season. He was the team's best middle linebacker along with AJ Duhe. Also we signed David Overstreet the sensational RB who also passed away after the '83 season.. Good and bad times. Went to see them that night , they won ( good ) and I later found out my car was towed...( bad ). GO FINS 2020!!

I was at this game, electrifying. What 1984 could've been if we hadn't lost Overstreet to the crash and Franklin to the knee injury.

Those early 1980 teams saw so much tragedy with the deaths of Rusty Chambers, Larry Gordon and David Overstreet. That has to take a lot out of a team mentally and all of those players were good players. So sad thinking back to that time and those guys all passing away. Gone way too soon. Franklin getting hurt early in 1984 was a huge blow and really killed any chance we had at having a run game. Imagine if that 1984 team didn't lose all of these guys and if we still had Arnsparger as our defensive coordinator.......

It aggravates me that EPSN never did a Missing Rings Episode about the 81-85 Fins. That team went through so much and yet still took down names and kicked @$$ for all those years.

@@brianwhitaker5081 I agree. Some great years there and some very likeable teams. I always thought they should do a missing rings on the 1984 Dolphins. 14-2 and pretty much everyone had them winning the Super Bowl. Team, offensively, passing game wise, the league had never saw anything like that before.

Franklin really only had one really good year running the ball. ('82). In 1983 he averaged a paltry 3.3 ypc. I don;t think his loss in 1984 hurt their running game all that much. Woody Bennett ran for 606 yards on a 4.2 average, Tony Nathan ran for 558 yards on a 4.7 average and Joe Carter rushed for 495 averaging 5.0 ypc. Losing Overstreet was a blow, as he had some explosive flashes, but really, this team was pass first, run as an afterthought.

It was so disappointing that Miami was upset by Seattle at the Orange Bowl in the divisional round. Really wanted to see what Marino could've done in the AFC championship game against the Raiders and how the Raiders would've handled Marino the second time around from Marino's NFL debut.
