    OEM DYNA motor mounts should be replaced every 10K miles at minimum. I recommend investing in the “BIG BEAR PERFORMANCE” front motor mount. It is been proven to be far superior to the OEM design.

    I'd still rather buy OEM parts for my '99 FXDL than buy a new Harley. £200 for a front mount that took some finding here in the UK. I won't be pouring 20w50 down it. 25 years and 25k miles the original had sagged about ⅛" and the replacement made roughly zero difference to vibration. Handling feels tighter but I did a full alignment check and found the rear wheel was out far enough to be the cause of underwhelming left-hand bend handling. Get on top of servicing and stay on top. Good luck out there,an old Dyna can be a money pit if it's not been properly looked after.

    One more question. I just changed my neutral from bonded to floating on my generator. Am I correct in thinking that it is no longer safe to use by plugging in extension cords or things directly into the 120v AC plugs on the generator to test with a load? Can anything safely be plugged into the generator anymore besides my 50A cable going to the receptacle on my house?

  • @bluesriderDF

  • @dirtdiver2389
    @dirtdiver238917 күн бұрын

    Ok, I am confused. You have been using this setup (bonded) for 20 years with no issues. You ultimately found that the neutral in your cable wasn't connected properly and caused your issues. You said you should have tested the cable 20 years ago when you bought it. Are you saying the night of the fire, was the first time you used the cable? If not, was the bonding of the neutral to the frame of your generator masking the problem with the cable? I am still confused on if having a bonded generator is an issue or not.

  • @bluesriderDF
    @bluesriderDF17 күн бұрын

    The cable was probably fine when new, but the wiring was connected to terminals with screws. The likely scenario is over the years, when my generators were bonded, the screws worked loose. And the neutral in particular, was completely disconnected. This was masked by the generator's internal bond. When I unbonded the generator, all h&ll broke loose because of no neutral. So the issue wasn't specifically that I unbonded (which was the right thing to do), but that my cable was faulty. I have a new cable that is soldered, molded, and clear at the ends.

  • @dirtdiver2389
    @dirtdiver238917 күн бұрын

    @@bluesriderDF Thanks. If you're correct about the cable, the system worked with the generator bonded, right? What would the symptoms be if there was a problem with two neutrals with a bonded generator? It doesn't sound like you ever had any issues and neither have I. What are the risks? It seems like there isn't a consensus even among electricians.

  • @bluesriderDF
    @bluesriderDF17 күн бұрын

    @@dirtdiver2389 There were no obsetvable symptoms with it being bonded at 2 locations. My understanding, however, is that it can interfere with proper GFCI operation, and also that the ground wire would be carrying current along with the neutral, which it's not supposed to. National Electrical Code (NEC) says only 1 ground, and I wanted to comply with that.

  • @timothydeschenes5645

    I'll add to this. There was likely some time between when the neutral cable became loose and now where the bonded generator was pushing all the unbalanced current in the system back through the ground wire. That's not what the ground wire is designed for and could energize objects, along the way, that are grounded. I'm surprised no one was shocked while flipping circuits on the transfer switch over the years.

You should see that when you start it by remote or push button, that it will automatically close the choke as it's cranking, and then gradually open it. The included charger should NOT be plugged in all the time. It delivers a constant charge and it will overcharge the battery. I confirmed this with westinghouse. I really don't know why they supplied it. What you want is a Battery Tender, which is a trickle charger. It will only deliver what is needed to top off the battery and keep it at optimum level. @@bluesriderDF I completely get it. I have never been in an accident severe enough to bruise more than my ego, but once one happened under my watch. I was the riding instructor, and a left turner wiped out my gf of the time. She went over the hood of the car, and the bike followed and landed on her. As an added touch of irony, there was some kind of advertisement poster right next to the accident scene, that used the word bullseye, as main attention grabber. Even though she got away from it with only bruises and was unshaken and back on the bike next week, I relived the incident for several nights. I actually think I took it harder than she did.
