Yellow Freight Maybrook yard, days after closing in August, 2023

Yellow Freight in Maybrook, NY abruptly closed on August 1, 2023. This facility has been in operation since the 1970s, and sits on the site of the Maybrook rail yard, which was actually six times larger than the space operated by Yellow Freight.

I worked at YFS , this location, from 1979 to 1989. I don't miss the work but I worked with some great guys. Local 707.

There was an auction last month, and there's been a steady flow of equipment, trucks & trailers being removed from the site.

It is, but it's only 1/6th the size of the railroad yard that was there before it.

Norfolk Southern should build a storage yard, an intermodal yard, plus an automotive handling yard in Maybrook.

I drove rigs for 30 years, I think that's the biggest terminal I've ever seen. So sad.

I have an hour commute, and big rigs are just things I want to pass. But the economic system would be at a standstill without them! I'm really surprised in the day and age of buying everything online that they went under.

They're not the first bro, I was last driving for Overnight Transportation and UPS bought them out. Consolidated freight and many more. Long time ago. Big chapter in my life.@@bluesriderDF

At 3:20, top center of the frame, is the place where I've worked for 30 years. I would often take a walk down the road to the entrance of Yellow Freight on my lunch break, even through the winters, just for exercise and to clear my head. I'd always see trucks coming and going and we'd wave to each other. Yellow Freight was the largest employer in this town, and 30,000 people across the US were laid off as a result, which is a shame. Nothing lasts forever as they say. 😔 Thanks for asking!

1985 part time 12.99 A Hour it was the best job in the hudson valley but it was 29 and out so they say 1 day short of making the union if you missed a day or was late you didn't get in the union and you were out the door on your 30-day trial you worked holidays weekends nights but you can't pay city drivers to sit in the Newburgh Mall and watch the girls when they're supposed to be delivering freight

It's sad. I miss seeing the trucks roll by when I take a walk down Yellow Freight drive. I'd always give the drivers a wave.
