    What foam is that ? Whats the best foam to use ?

  • @thecultofcrafting
    @thecultofcrafting9 күн бұрын

    It's called XPS foam - and it's the best to use. It's used for insulation. In certain countries it can be hard to find. :-)

    On my first day working at a sawmill I was asked to put some pallets together. I was handed a pneumatic nail gun and some planks and left too it. I didn't know I was meant to build them on this stand thing that held them up off of the ground. So I was part way into building the first pallet when I came to turn it over only to find that I had nailed it to the floor. They had to use a fork lift to pry it up off the ground. Weirdly they never asked me to make pallets again.

    Consider making an update vid where you develop this concept with more plastic or 3d printed bits. This has honestly the potential to look 100% legit.

    For rivets you can use a 1/2mm hole punch on plasticard to get a bunch of rivets really quickly. Cutting a plasticard rod into rivet sized pieces works, too, but it's hard to get them uniform. Works better for Orky or Necromunda stuff. A small dot of superglue looks pretty good for small rivets.

    One note: trenches are made zig zagged so that there isnt an easy line of site to wipe a whole trench if just one section is taken

    What kind of soil did you use to add onto the ground texture? Was it just literal soil from outside or store bought?

  • @thecultofcrafting
    @thecultofcraftingАй бұрын

    From outside. At some point I went outside, dug up some soil, sifted it, and let it dry in the summer heat for a good long while. Of course, I didn't need it immediately, otherwise I would have found some other solution.

  • @Jimmietwoshoes1

    @@thecultofcrafting any advice for needing it immediately or at least not waiting quick. I have hear putting it in the oven works.

  • @thecultofcrafting
    @thecultofcraftingАй бұрын

    Yeah, people do that. I did it once with sand from the beach and my oven stank of seaweed for months. The argument is that you kill off bugs and germs by baking it and that it will prevent mold. Whether there's any harm in using it straight from the ground, I can't say for sure, but I doubt it. If you store your terrain where it will exposed to moisture, mold will grow in any case - the spores are in the air. People use all kinds of things for ground texture. Pet shops and hardware stores will usually have fine sand that might work instead.

    Random question not directly related to the hobbying, how do you use your notebooks?

  • @thecultofcrafting
    @thecultofcrafting3 ай бұрын

    Inconsistently. 😄 I mostly use physical notebooks to make checklists of tasks. I use Notion for pretty much everything else. Managing projects, writing, brainstorming, tracking progress, storing info, etc. I have a setup for task management in Notion too, but for some reason, I tend to forget to use it. A notebook reminds me to check my task list because it's physically there.

    Hmm.. I don’t mean to be rude but somehow it looks like something from soviet Russia territory, not from wh40k universe xdd It’s great but absolutely different setting

  • @thecultofcrafting
    @thecultofcrafting3 ай бұрын

    The cool thing about the 40K universe is that it's a big place, so there's room for a lot of different looks, vibes and interpretations. My own mental image of Necromunda for example is a lot more industrial and gritty than the colorful cyberpunk look that a lot of people prefer - which is all fine. :-) The looks of the different regiments of the Imperial Guard for example are pretty much copies of real world (or movie) examples of the 19th and 20th century. The Vostroyans and Valhallans are heavily inspired by Russians uniforms, so perhaps the bunker fits with them? 😄

    On the safety note of making "authentic" barbed wire with barbs, I remember once my local game store selling authentic miniature razor wire (not barbed wire - razor wire). This mini razor wire was gorgeous, intimidating, however it 100% would cut you and cut your miniatures if you gave it the chance. Not for the reckless or every day mini
