Quick, Cheap and Easy Miniature Pallets // Scratch Built Terrain for Warhammer 40K and Necromunda
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello, fellow cultist! In this video I'll show you how to make two different kinds of wood pallets and I'll throw in a futuristic science fiction pallet to sweeten the deal. What's not to love?
Unfortunately, the task of clicking a button on my camera was too much for me to handle, so I didn't manage to record me painting the things. Here's a quick summary:
I painted the wood pallets with paints thinned to a wash consistency. I brushed on some water on the surface before applying the washes, which dissolved the glue, so be careful with that. It was essentially the same method and colors as in my "How to Make Concrete Walls" video: [ • How To Make Concrete W... ]( • How To Make Concrete W... )
For the SciFi pallet, I gave it a base coat of white and then I used my airbrush to paint it yellow. After that had dried, I used masking tape to mask of the stripes and I finished them with an almost black grey. The weathering was done with a rust-red enamel wash and by stippling orange and brown with a bit of sponge. I also stippled on a metallic color and I hit the edges with the same metal color using a paintbrush.
I hope you find it useful! :-)

I appreciate you putting this information out there for the next generation. Been using stir sticks for construction for years, so much so I can't go to Panera anymore.

For rivets you can use a 1/2mm hole punch on plasticard to get a bunch of rivets really quickly. Cutting a plasticard rod into rivet sized pieces works, too, but it's hard to get them uniform. Works better for Orky or Necromunda stuff. A small dot of superglue looks pretty good for small rivets.
Well the wood pallets have been done by many but i like that you used only the sticks instead of balsa wood because not anyone has access to art supplies.great sci fi pallet and i always love some nice hazard stripes

I work in a warehouse moving em all day ond omg those wood pallets look realistic af. The 9 block pallets are the bane of my existence ( always breaking) amd they looked so real i almost got mad at em xD, amazing work

I do like the tutorial, as for the gluing step. If you stain/wash the stirrers before gluing them, you don't need to worry about the PVA ;) Also easier to stain them, because you can just use some wood stain and a sponge. You can also get deeper "wood grain" with your steel wire brush when they are still as a complete stick, as you have more leverage to really press the brush into the wood. And you can use your big cutting knife or a kitchen knife to cut grain into it, if you really want it deeper. Its also easier to damage them, like say put them in a bag with rocks and shake it. It will break the fibers and whatnot.

Very Impressive! I work with wood pallets on a daily bases and the ones you have constructed are spot on. Hell they actual look better than the real thing. I am going to have to try this for some of my home games.

Just look at pallets and you make the same. But as a warehouse manager I will say they look awesome
On my first day working at a sawmill I was asked to put some pallets together. I was handed a pneumatic nail gun and some planks and left too it. I didn't know I was meant to build them on this stand thing that held them up off of the ground. So I was part way into building the first pallet when I came to turn it over only to find that I had nailed it to the floor. They had to use a fork lift to pry it up off the ground. Weirdly they never asked me to make pallets again.
Great little video on some great looking scenery - they add so much character and seem so simple to make!

GW doesn’t give a rabbits fart about scale and if you look at their vehicle transport capacity then you would agree. Industrial pallets are sometimes 6’x6’ or larger and are used to transport things weighing 1000 lbs so your scale that you used are perfect for the tabletop and I will be making loads of them thanks to you.

The pallets look so simple & easy to build...but very very effective.. When you speak about buying a bag of coffee stirrers.....I recall asking a girl in my local Gregg's bakery for a handful, she said "gimme a minute", went through the back of the shop to come back to me with an unopened bag of 1,000 stirrers & asked if that would suffice....lol...i've still got them somewhere...😁👍

@@johnroy2567 I've made a video on how to make stairs, so you might find some use for that. Whether you should build or buy depends on your personal preferences. If you got the money for Necromunda terrain and you don't care about building things from scratch, I'd say go for it. If you like building things yourself, Wyloch's Armoury and Knarb Makes both have tutorials for catwalks, I think will be useful to you. :-)

You really put a lot of effort in these videos. Im sure your channel will get hit by the algorithm soon and really start going. I wish you would actually show the painting proces as well though, as this is where I often struggle myself. Right now the video is really good for inspiration but if you skip the painting it will only get me so far. Thanks!

Thanks, man. I hope so. :-) I'm working towards doing more painting. I'd actually planned on covering the painting part in this video, but, alas, I screwed something up with the camera, so I didn't have the footage to do it properly. I've left a rough overview of the painting process in the description, so hopefully that helps a bit. :-)

Using metal for pallets is definitely extra
Actually a full size pallet is about 120 x 120cm, which would be about two bases wide.
@thecultofcrafting
Жыл бұрын
A standard European pallet is 1200x800x144 mm. But even so, using a Primaris Marine as a benchmark, which is around 2.5 m tall in lore and 4 cm in plastic, that would make a 1200x1200 pallet 19.2x19.2 mm in mini version.
