4 Ways To Make Smoke Effects For Warhammer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello cultists! I've gathered you all here to show you how to make smoke effects for your tabletop wargames. It's the first time I've tried this, but it was pretty easy and the results look pretty great for not a lot of effort - which is what I aim for here on the channel.

Thanks for your support! I'll make sure the dark gods of crafting hear of this. 😊
The Cult of Crafting make tutorials and guides on how to make terrain (and the occasional miniature painting tutorial) for tabletop wargames by Games Workshop, like Warhammer 40,000 (40K), Kill Team, Necromunda and Age of Sigmar. Of course, you can use the same ideas for any other game, if you want: Bolt Action, Kings of War and all the things.

Awesome techniques! I’m brainstorming a plane crash hat for a music video and I’ve thought about using teddy bear stuffing. Seeing your techniques in action have helped me immensely!!

That was great! I was afraid of starting playing with the smoke but it looks very fun. I woud love to see how you would incorporate this into some larger build.

The trick I use is you can just sculpt a flame with baking soda and liquid super glue then use washes or contrast paints to give a fire effect then gloss coat and it's beautiful

That looks really good. I'll give it a try and scale them down to 6-8mm scale, I neede explosion markers for my Epic game this weekend.

Hey, this was really fun to watch, a lot sharper and shorter then the last time, so a much appreciated evolution of the form. Only thing I would change is that last time you were much more expresive in the headshots, while now you just give a dead eye stare right into my very soul, so relax a bit if you can :). Even the music was fun and energetic, working well for the background. Sory I can't really support you on patreon right now, but I'd love to someday.

Thank you for this. My friends and I have started to leave our vehicles on the table unless they explode. We treat the vehicles as terrain that give both cover or disrupts line of sight. I want to make some smoke like this for both the vehicles and where the vehicles have been.

Nice video! I'm thinking to kitbash a Stompa and was wondering how to add some smoke from pipes (and maybe parts aflame). Considering also to place inside a small line of led christmas lights to light eyes and the like, now I'll leave some to be placed into the smoke.

Nice and simple so you can fast build them, very nicely done. Love to see a tutorial for how to model Lightning (like force lightning) both think, thin and ultra thin...

Smaller versions of these would be great for Bolt Action as vehicle damage markers. A small critique, I think some of the headshot cuts were a bit jarring, maybe save them just for the intro and outro? Otherwise another great video.

Can you use white glue instead of the hot glue?

  • @thecultofcrafting

I imagine so, yes. Gonna take lot longer since you have to wait for it to dry. It’s not a good idea to make bases out of white glue, though.

@@thecultofcrafting thanks! I already got a base with a model on top of a stand. I am thinking of using the cotton balls smoke effects to "hide" the stand.

Does anyone have experience with making coloured smoke? I've made these kinds of explosion plumes before but I want to try making a diorama with something like a red or blue smoke grenade going off. I'm worried that just spraying cotton wool red/blue will look like cotton candy instead of smoke.

Can you make this a solid piece so you can put it in epoxy?

Hmm. I haven't played around with epoxy resin that much, so I don't know. But I've seen people casting frail-looking flowers in resin, so maybe?
