    great memories of this race, Sheen beating Roberts on the 500cc and Roberts being sheen on the 750cc, Agostini and the sound of the 750cc MV was incredible, I stood five feet away from it in the pits with the mechanic pinning it my chest was moving with the exhaust, the whole day was special, both teams really up for it, it was the peak of superbike racing and the crowds were into the 100s of thousands, today's events are nothing in comparison, not knocking today's riders in any way but then they were national heroes and people went to see them who had never been on a motorbike,

    This was one of my favourite routes through North Wales. I've walked Alwyn & Brenig with my dog many times. Excellent advice for the sharp bend before the Sportsmans Inn, one look at the lake and eye is distracted when on a bike. Shame the area is now carpet bombed with average speed cameras and 20 mph zones. I always thought it was the minority that caused accidents.

    I am from Australia. We are very lucky to have the ideal weather and good roads for riding. After 40 years without a bike in 2021 I bought the same model bike I last rode in 1981, a 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900 in almost original condition. It was like I never stopped riding. Got a Triumph Rocket 3R 12 months ago to save putting miles on the Z1. Great fun. I am 68 and love riding. I think the break of 40 years kept me in the right mindset to remember what riding is all about. Feeling of freedom, a little excitement and exhilaration.

    That’s still a fantastic route although there are average cameras all along there now, but after leaving Denbigh there is only one short 30/20 mph section the rest is all NSL.

    Nice demonstration of principle of positioning, but positioning should be for safety then view. Not sure where he was when oncoming traffic was the safest position especially for very little benefit on view.

    Thanks for the feedback. The rider was only with me for a day and this was in the morning, so relatively new to Advanced Riding. As with video footage angles do perhaps give a false view, especially where I am positioned with the camera bike, Your feedback is appreciated and she later continued to develop her riding as she joined us on one of our Normandy tours.

    I had a British motorcycle instructor who divided the lane into 5, all the Kiwi instructors I have been riding with only divide it into 3. When I mentioned this they suggested that 5 was too complicated for trainees. If dividing the lane is too complex perhaps their students shouldn't be riding. This method gives more options and a clear indication of where the instructor wants the pupil to be.

    My dad worked there from 1955 when we left the mining valleys of South Wales until his passing in 1979. He also helped with the start of the subsequent museum on the site, which won a national award in 1982. As a child I would go up there on weekends and holidays, help in the overman's office where he and his colleagues would write their reports after their shift , and often be allowed to sit with the engine men while they wound the full coal tubs uo. All exciting stuff! Always had a passion for technical and industrial history. No wonder with that background in Wales and the North Midlands. Retired now but did 45 years in Transport and engineering. My dad's name was Don Bath .

    Started in chemical and process engineering in Manchester then worked at River Don Works Sheffield in steel making and heavy engineering. Then to Bristol and London to work in shipping/hazardous materials and road and rail transport and finally aircraft engineering at Southend and Stansted in Essex. Qualified as a power and glider pilot at the now defunct Meir Aerodrome 56 years ago. Also qualified and later trained others to drive buses coaches lorries and trains including the molten metal and hot slag trains in Sheffield. My career was always a mix of college and practical skills time. This is how I kept in employment during some bad recessions and life threatening illnesses. At 71 years of age still do a lot of community and heritage work and still fly gliders and light aircraft occasionally as second pilot. The downside of all this has been geographical moves around the UK and Europe to stay in work. Glad I'm retired now!

    One of my instructors advised riding to the right hand side of the right hand row of traffic, rather than between the rows. His reasoning being that you only have to deal with vehicles moving from one direction. Also I have used the left side of the left lane when the road was blocked by an accident, running along the edge demarcation of the hard shoulder for the same reason.

  • @advancedbiker
    @advancedbiker Жыл бұрын

    Good advice, but in the Centre vehicles can part better to the left and right. Also right hand filtering may expose you to more road debris. At the end of the day, which ever way so long as it is save…

    Nice to see you back, I've lurked for a while. Nant-y-garth has been 40 for a while, and I agree, it's been spoilt. It is all the way down to the farm college. At least you missed the roadworks that were on the section you rode, until recently. The A535 towards Wrexham is OK, but that long 40 is painful before it opens back up to NSL. The more off the beaten path you are, the friendlier the roads are. (in case it's not obvious, I live near Nant-y-garth)

    Nice demonstration! I had the same problem on the M6. The M54 had got a lane closed due to two 'hot hatches' having a coming together (No, I have no idea how either) I had my headlight and 'yellow bib' on (which always seems to help) nice to see, like in your video, the number of cars that try to give you room. No sure why, I'm always a bit more wary when I have the panniers fitted, even though I know full well they are no wider than the mirrors?? OK, I think you've got the 'tech' sorted, so hope we can expect more videos shortly.

  • @advancedbiker

    Tech wise nearly…..Although the Innovv is only, I say only 1080 on the front it works. The GoPro is uptown 5k. Takes up a lot of disc space.

    Blimey that's spooky! I was only talking about you last weekend (to my Drift Ghost S 😆) I was over Llyn Brenig and that's much the same, if not worse. 🙁 I was wondering if that was why you had stopped posting videos? I think they've nobbled the Denbigh to Pentrefoelas road too, although I haven't checked. Good to see you back! Obviously lost none of your skills.
