Returning to the A6 with Advancedbkier

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It has been awhile, but managed to get out and did some coaching up in the Dales and onto Windermere and Kirkstone Pass, before heading south on the A6 towards Shap.
Bike to bike comms using Sena 20s and Sena 10u. Filmed with helmet mounted Sena Prism camera.
Just looking at developing forward observation, planning, MAIN BEAM OBS - flowing between the bends.....
Used a bit of the 1,2,3,4,5 language....

Good to "see" you out and about Nigel,it has been a while. Lovely weather and a lovely location. After showing a new full licence riding friend the advancedbiker channel he uses positions 1,3and5 for now when he is out on his own. I rate that a win,he is thinking about position and hazard.

Thank you for another free lesson. Once again you are travelling in my old home territory, to see it on a nice sunny day makes me wonder why I moved to Australia (just kidding).

Hi AdvancedBiker, nice video as usual. glad to see you're still going. I used to chat with you years back when I had a Bandit 600 S. Sadly family came and that disappeared. I'm hoping to be picking up a Honda Pan ST1300 shortly so I'll be refreshing myself with roadcraft and your videos. I was thinking of a BMW, but heard of reliability issues. How have you found yours? S.

Just when I thought you had retired :-) That tractor is nothing, where I live you get three of those in convoy , no covering sheets, and often no lights, indicators number plates. Usually at the busiest times of the day. No one seems to think of the danger, or the law. Oh well....

2:22 Indicated 67. Probably only just over, but doesn't sit with riding at an indicated 60 later. Which is correct - indicated speed or eg GPS speed?

Just sometimes it is safer to just get past something and be in clear space than it is to religiously stick to a speed limit Rules are obeyed by fools and used as guidance for the wise

@@redrick41 Well I agree with that. I get frustrated with speed limits nowadays that seem designed as a prescribed speed rather than as a limit. Should be OK to break these 'just sometimes', but it's interesting to get others' views.

@@benjamincs1 The reality is it is illegal to break speed limits but we all do and of that i am certain. It is too easy to watch a video on youtube and then criticise the rider or in this case the instructor. We all have our methods and styles of riding which others will choose ( often just for the sake of it) to chip in with their observations. These observations are usually based on them believing they are better than the poster of the video. Bearing in mind that hindsight is a wonderful place to stand and criticise from Maybe some of these critics should have a day out with Nigel and see for themselves if they are better than him. I know for a certainty that I am not

@@redrick41 Nowhere do I criticise the rider in the video - you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick. I'm a relatively new rider and am trying to get a sense of what the position is. I can see it's a touchy subject.

@@benjamincs1 Ah Ok ! The best thing i can honestly recomend is to actually go out with Nigel or indeed some of those he has trained. Nigel takes a reasonable approach to most things including speed and his main priority is safe and swift (if i needed to come up with a phrase for it )although as said in another reply safety is number 1 priority but to be safe you need to have a brain full of information and muscle memory for riding like that

Hi, thanks for commenting. Nigel teaches Roadcraft (worth a read), the police method of riding. You will hear Nigel say "if safe" quite a bit. He has taught me to "give ground" to oncoming traffic, in other words treat oncoming traffic as a hazard and move away, usually to position 1 or 2 nearer the kerb. Takes a bit of getting used to admittedly but after a while become almost instinctive. Hope this helps you. Kev
