Agreed on the matter of emotional connections, it does feel a bit rushed sometimes but I think that they pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the choices and it is grandiose. Star wars is a lot more playfull e the emotional connections work very well in that context, but I think villeneuve did not want to risk anything (and be compared to Marvel or the newest Star Wars movies) and it is very stoic indeed. It is historical already.
@secondopinion894 ай бұрын
I appreciate your thoughts and so glad you watched my review. I certainly don't want it to be Marvel... In fact Dune 2 the director leaned into the romance and his internal struggle between being 'among the one' or 'the One'...yet for me it still didn't feel weighty and real and ultimately all good stories at some level needs to have an organic emotional core to ground itself beyond the grand scope and lore. Which is why I offered LOTR as a good example of that achieving it. But even with that, it is still high filmmaking considering the almost impossibility of the Dune books from what I've heard.

Mate, his body of work starts way before. Forget last 5 years, he was same in 80's too. Vidheyan, Ponthanmada, Bhootkandi, Thaniavarthanam and my best Yathra. Peranbu is classic too. There many movies. Kathaal and Nanpakal is mesmerizing. The laugh in Rosarch is stupendous.
