Was watching the movie Varathan and came across the song 'Oduvile Theeyayi'. The song was alarmingly similar to the title song of one of my all time favorite shows 'True Detective S1' by The Handsome Family named ' Far from any Road'. I searched the internet and couldn't find any evidences of his palgiarism with respect to the above song. I am shocked and surprised the amount of fan following this plagiarist has!

Seems like it's becoming a norm in the music industry in our country. The soundtrack from Leo is getting all the praise but it's a straight up remix. Most seem to not care as long as it's good and even defend or playdown plagiarism.

Of course there's multiple sides to a story, everyone's innocent till proven and should be able to defend themselves - but the evidence here seems pretty black and white and at least should raise a few questions. I've shared my raw reaction - what's your take?

I respect your thoughts... if you think it's merely similar just because it's modern... you have to ask WHY is it similar and what part of it is similar...those are important to consider...also... Can you then tell me why it's not a remix from the original then? take out the lyrics and you can easily call it a remix would you agree? If the core part of the song... The tune that sticks..the main tune...if that is just lifted from another's work...Then you have to give credit to the orginal artist. And that's the problem here... It's not a mere accidental similarity (like how rap songs can sound similar just because it's the same genre). This is way more than that.. He knows what he's doing and he remixing original songs fr other artists and using it as BGM. But I'd give credit to whomever is coming up with lyrics at least.

Who ever make music must understand one thing , listeners are not a "pottan", there are people "who vibe for a tune and forget everything" and there are "some people who take music into their soul's" I'm talking about the second kind of people moving forward such people will pinpoint these "Udaip" song composition. Once these people hear the original song they loose their mind , because they love the soul of that tune and their is a connection/discovery b/w how the real man behind the tune hide magics in his work. (I'm mostly talking about Mark Orton, where sushin gets idea for the Kumbalangi night's song) I can see that you are trying to support the way sushin used those tunes in an improvised way , maybe he is the reason how I heard about mark Orton and his versatility in music. But we cannot say sushin is doing a good job with his way of music creation. Also he is taking all the credit. note: if an artist is getting inspired by some other work , he should give some credit, that's not happening here.

You said everything bro 👍 The feeling of knowing he steal all those awesome musical pieces from someone else's hardwork... I got mesmerized by the kumbalnginight song "chirathukal" , but now that song have only lyrical value the tune just died in my mind The tune is composed by Mark Orton , Sushin inspired from the tune and made a new one something similar to the original If you have time please play below tracks and come to a conclusion Mark Orton - "Immigration" = kzread.info/dash/bejne/gH99s8qzkZSuYs4.html Mark Orton - "Their Pie" = kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpeVpdWbp6mfpcY.html He just done some stitching work and tempo correction

Pity you! How many people from Kerala might have heard those music? What is wrong in brining western music to Malayalam movies?

What are you even saying? So because of Sushin people are running to listen to amazing music from the West?? Is he giving credit to the orginal soundtrack and the artist that actually created the tune?? I wish you could understand my criticism and actually hear what I'm saying...the point is not about bringing western music to Malayalam industry... You totally didn't get it... Please watch and understand before you shoot out comments... You don't understand how the plagiarism works especially when you're taking credit for it as an artist. He's won awards for "best original soundtrack".. so if your work is not an original then you've plagiarised... it doesn't matter how good it sounds...thats NOT the point...Same reason why I can't record movies in a theatre and sell it as cheap CDs in slums and get money and awards for it. Can I say, that's my work to bring Hollywood to the poor?? Even KZread gives you a copyright strike if you take an image without taking permission. His work is plagiarised and NOT his own. They are at best very good remixes of others melodies (but it's not credited or presented as remixes). Doesn't matter who's 'aware' of the orginal music or not or how well you remix it for a movie... If the orginal artist takes him to court, he'd be in trouble. It's about being a copycat vs being inspired...I think Sushin crossed the line based on the evidence. You've missed the point.

Probably, but I don't know much about them and it doesn't make the act normal or acceptable. I held SS in high esteem and not the others you mentioned. So this video is about him. Sadly, we have a culture of okaying/normalising copying and that's why we're always following trendsetters instead of setting trends ourselves.

@@Drunkardss Wait what? So the crime isn't what's destroying our industry but people finding out? 😂😂 Great logic. If you list two other people who's doing a wrong thing... Does that make action correct?? So if someone steals your car/bike, modified it a bit, changes the paint color... That's not creativity... That's trying to hide the crime ... And then gets caught selling it... They can defend themselves by saying I know other robbers who do the same? 😂 You'd rather shoot the messenger than address the real problem...that kind of blindness will get our industry nowhere in the world but mocked as mere copycats. The greatest support you can do is to mature as an audience and demand true and pure creativity. Not to be made a fool and give them awards for it. This is the kind of immature mentality that's causing us to always be followers to the West. I don't think you get it. You're supporting corruption and thinking that's supporting the industry. What is our industry is built on stolen remixed music? I'll probably make another video on this very mentality.
