    I was at Myvatn when the storms hit at start of June. (annual pilgrimage). Hit the birdlife really hard. Only just managed to get back to Akureyri by road and onto Grimsey (rough crossing!). One week later I was on Myvatn lake shore at midnight in a t-shirt watching the sun go down....... That's Iceland! Crazy weather!

    Thank you for this amazing video. I left on 1st June and may have seen you photographing grebes and phalaropes on Stakhólstjörn. Sorry to hear the weather turned bad, I felt for the Red-necked Phalaropes that arrived early and struggled to feed, hoping they recover and raise their broods.

    I thank you both from the bottom of my heart for doing what you're doing for the wildlife of Iceland. I've led 15 tours since 2021 with well over 100 visitors and one question almost everyone asks is '"what is the chance of seeing Arctic Fox?" You can guess my answer although I've seen them in many unlikely places. In 2019 I drove 10 hours from Mývatn to Látrabjarg in the hope of seeing one and failed, My best sighting was at a tourist hotspot in the middle of the day. The man who runs the Puffin tours openly admits to shooting them and one hotelier told us he tries to run them over "because they kill lambs". Such ignorance. We're no better here in the UK with fox hunting and cub hunting still prevalent though illegal. I hope for a time when man will learn to live with nature and you should be the ambassador!

    Stunning! Photographically speaking, it must be difficult to call it a day when the sun sets but immediately rises again. Under Midnight Sun conditions, is there a period of inactivity for the wildlife? Do the birds and animals settle down or disappear for long periods of time, or do they rest for pockets of time throughout the day?

    I have long enjoyed your photography and always appreciate the quality of your videos. I hope to get to Iceland someday. Interesting to see your sound set up, I have been curious about getting better ambient sounds than just a basic shotgun mic. And isn't that the way it goes, you spend the night out looking for wildlife and then find your target back at the car!

    Loved the story telling Einar. I was told by an ornithologist this winter that ptarmigans are not doing well in the Scottish Highlands due to our increasingly wet springs affecting the survival rate of their young. Also the frequent thawing of the snow cover, even on the summits of our highest mountains, is making their winter camouflage less effective. Great work.

  • @GudmannAndGyda
    @GudmannAndGyda2 ай бұрын

    Thank you. The ptarmigan population here in Iceland is probably facing similar problems as in the Scottish Highlands. It seems the ptarmigans benefit from cold climate in sub-zero conditions. Warm and fluctuating temperatures are causing problems for them.

    Absolutely wonderful video of your camping outing. Amazed to see your nice snow camp setup and engineered seating ! Presumably you knew the weather before you set off with such a minimalist tent. Hilarious to see the Ptarmigans back at your car. They are incredibly beautiful birds. A much warmer 2 degree start for us here in southern Australia for tomorrow when I'll get out to hopefully see and photograph a Lyrebird as well as Platypus, Bandicoots and Antechinus at the nearby reserve. If you don't know of the latter, look it up for an interesting read about it's life cycle. Cheers, Richard

    Thank you. I would love to see the Lyrebird. If I remember correctly it can imitate sounds and sings wonderfully. Recording it would be a challenge. Australia has a lot more species than we do here in Iceland. I hope you will have a good time. // Einar Gudmann

    Nice, I enjoyed that. It reminds me of a day when I was at a nature reserve with a friend looking for a certain Dragonfly, plenty of sightings of them but never the right opportunity for the photograph I wanted. When we finally got back to the car, one was sitting in a bush just in front of us.

    Your statement is ridiculous. You want to be blessed by a god because you seek out revenge. I am sure Jesus was supposed to have said turn the other cheek. Not seek out and get blessed for revenge. To the wildlife photographer you time and commitment to your work is wonderful to watch and your work is excellent. After 40 years in the job I have just started to photograph wildlife photography after Finnishing work through ill health. I have found it therapeutic but extremely hard but enjoying learning a new skill.
