WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PUFFINS ON GRIMSEY - Bird photography at the Arctic Circle
#birdphotography #wildlifephotography
Puffins are amongst the most beautiful yet clown-looking birds on earth. They have fascinated us all and have turned into an icon of Iceland´s tourism industry. Their colorful beaks and sometimes clumsy comical behavior make them the favorite subject of many wildlife photographers. In this video, we learn a few facts about puffins and get a photo of a very special puffin.

Glad you think so!
Hallo! A real nice bird and a very nice video. I meet this bird I Norway/Runde summer 2011. Really nice. Best regards from Sweden / Hans-Olof
Fantastic thank you. 👍📷😎
Great work, thanks!🤩
Another fabulous video, so well put together and nice to hear all the Puffin facts. Amazing you got to see the rare 'winter' Puffin. Noted that you need to get a ferry out there which takes a couple of hours. Out of interest what is the ferry trip like (presumably they don't go if it is too rough) and do many other photographers go. It always seems you have these places to yourself - although I''m sure you're good with the composition so wandering photographers don't muck up your shots :) Cheers, Richard, Australia

Thank you RJ. The ferry trip to Grimsey takes about 3 hours. It can be rough, but most of the time it is calm and easy. This is the Atlantic ocean, so there are no guarantees for a calm day on the water. Most photographers go by the ferry, or by flight. This year, there are flights only two or three days a week. And... yes, we always have Grimsey to ourselves. There are never many photographers there at the same time, except when the cruisers arrive. Then you can see 200 people walk along the cliffs near the harbour and the town. Even then, you just go further and then you are alone. It is a big island, and the puffins are everywhere.
"The camera is just an excuse to spend time in nature" - Well said, good video...........

Glad you enjoyed it!
Visited Grímsey this summer for the first time and I hope to visit again. Agree, the camera is just an excuse, life in nature is the reason to carry the heavy equipment across the fields. I had such great time - 5 days - good food, great people...loved it.

Grimsey is a great island - with great people! We go there as often as possible.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video with valuable information, I didn't know puffins could get that old. When we first visited Iceland, they were a welcome sight to photograph in Dyrholaey and we spent way more time there than we anticipated up front
You definitely have gotten me to our Iceland on my list of must-see places in the name of the puffins and gannets! I enjoyed seeing this unique specimen you captured. I cannot wait for my opportunity to have some intimate time with the birds there when I get the chance! Keep the inspiring videos coming!
Superb work!! I am enjoying your postings more and more.

amazing and i fully agree with your comment camera is just an excuse to go back for more. I love puffin ever since i was a kid and i am planning to go see them in wild this year. will order the book, please advice where i can order them .
Beautiful photos as always. I was lucky enough to photograph puffins not far from me in northern Scotland earlier this year, stunning birds to see and hopefully go back next year to try and get some more images with the D850, wished I’d had a 300f2.8 or the 500f4 tho 😊
❤❤👍👍
So you bought the Nikon Z 7II I surprised not the Z9 - I know it's more expensive but, I had hard time to use my Z 7II for any action related, especially birds

Yes, we got two Z7ii bodies. In our household we buy two of most things ;-) Can be expensive.
Great video as usual and I have your book on Grimsey too. By the way, when will be a great time to capture puffin with fishes in mouth? I am planning a trip there next year 😊

Thank you Arthur. The puffins bring food to the burrows quite early in the season. Around and after middle of June you can see them with fish. The most active "fish" season is probably when the chicks are craving more to eat - the whole of July.
