Some years ago some Japanese friends of mine asked me why English people would say “ Oh you must come to dinner sometime “ They would say Yes, When ? to hear “ Oh sometime “….. I explained it was meant but for an open possibility in the future as an idea rather an actual date. They found it superficial and annoying. I suppose it is true . we say I’ll call you, then we don’t.

The truth is we hound and criticise ourselves, whereas the French don't accept criticism of their culture and way of life...

As regards to love , sweetie , honey as a greeting it's a friendly thing and said a lot up north ie after a long stint on stage down the west end Sir Ian McKenna got a train to Manchester very tired , as soon as he got into the taxi the driver said to him " you alright love " he replied " yes I'm home " .

The French people I have encountered over the last 40 years have shown one trait that always shines through is "Passion", from the most simplest things like the quality of the baguette your about to eat, the wine they drink and the wine they serve to friends and family. They moan just as much as us Brits if not more, but with a passion unrivalled by no other nation except perhaps only by the Italians who can shout even louder. The care free attitude that everything will be fine tomorrow and if it isn't then maybe the next day and usually they are right.

As a Scottish person The English aren’t all bad but there are some who really piss me off I have English friends I don’t mind the country I just hate how they in the past took over Northern Ireland and Scotland and after they let India and America go they kept us, the brexit vote was rigged because of the amount of English people in comparison to us scots and it may seem like the votes are from Scotland but the votes for leaving the eu were English people in scotland

We're coming to Brighton for more than 25 years now, at least once each year. A seven hour drive from Germany, but it's worth every minute. Our next trip starts in five days! 🙃

If the UK had Spain's weather, I think British people would be just as happy as Spanish people and would also live that outdoor social life. Just look at Australia, they are basically Brits but with better weather and beaches, and they're way happier. I think most British people are depressed and they don't realise it because they're basically forced to live their life inside and never see the sun. There's nothing to do except drink alcohol and watch terrible TV for most people, but if we get a heatwave in summer, the country comes alive. I would love to be outside all the time but because it's cold and grey overcast skies every single day, I live my life in front of my PC sadly enough.

I have found from many visits to the U.K. that people will cross the road if the road is clear, no matter what the signal says. Also, people in cars that are turning a corner do not stop for pedestrians. Dangerous! That happens a lot near Borough Market in London.

Ireland is beautiful. But I find Irish people to be the most two faced people ever. They’ll be friendly to your face and insult you once your gone. Done this to my polish friend and I called them out on it. Very sly group of people hiding behind a faux bubbly personality.

The English lack basic knowledge of Irish geography, history, arts and culture in general. The lad who muttered something about the uncultured Irish is a prime example.
