I am actually writer level in Modern English, knowing over 60.000 words, but I’m watching the videos to learn new Dutch words because I use the ‘translate to’ Dutch option, because I am advanced level in Dutch and trying to learn new words and advanced words - the translation would be even more accurate if the original English subs would also be added as an option (right under English - auto generated) even though it’s also hardcoded, because it would be translated directly from the English sub! And, if multiple subs in other Germanic languages (and Celtic and Latin languages) would be available, it would also help English learners that are beginner level! So I would suggest Dutch / Norwegian or Swedish or Danish / Icelandic or Faroese / Welsh or Breton or Cornish / German / Portuguese or Catalan or French subs, which would help both English learners (beginners) and Germanic / Celtic / Latin language learners that already know English but want to learn new words in the other languages!

Brighton station is probably the nicest station I've ever seen in person.

The same could be said about German trains - expensive, unreliable etc. Loved the don't-do-that part ... 😅My recollection of British trains is a bad one as well - by my own fault though. I was about 16, traveling back alone and messed up trains. Instead of going to Folkestone, I went to Dover (or the other way round, don't remember). When I realized my mistake (and the train was still standing) I didn't know how to open the door to get out. 🤦🏻So I had to take the extra turn and missed my ferry of course. Not to mention extra costs and getting home in the middle of the night - with 16. It still gives me the shivers ...

Are British railways privatised? Could be expensive due to profit oriented companies that run the railways?

The passenger train system in the USA is horrible. We drive when traveling. It can be beautiful seeing the country, but it is time consuming.

Douglas, how do you practice it? Do you stop the vídeo, take note of words you don't know, repeat some parts of it? I am asking it because I already practice a passive listening every morning, it may be with radios, podcasts or talks, but I want to use this channel to practice an active listening by doing what I mentioned in the question. By the way, from Brazil here too! ✌🏼

To be honest, this really works if one is intermediate or advanced level in English, because one will learn new words from the context if one already knows most other words in each sentence, but if one is beginner level in English and cannot understand most of the words, one won’t be able to understand many new words because there aren’t subs in other languages available that could be used at the same time! Even though English is so easy, one would definitely learn new words easer when watching the videos with both English subs + subs in the first language at the same time! By the way, I am intermediate level in Portuguese, but I can understand almost everything in Portuguese because I know Spanish - I’m also trying to improve my Portuguese, and I want to learn Galician / French / Gallo / Catalan / Latin / Occitan and Italian / the other Italian-based languages referred to as dialects!

Except for the greater London area I have never taken trains in the UK. When I was a student our college organized weekend bus tours to famous sights and on my honeymoon in 2009 we had a rental car. My husband and daughter will use the train this spring in the US though going from DC to Atlanta. Should be quite an adventure.

I ❤️ trains!! Everyone in this video was very helpful. It would be a dream to take a train through England & enjoy the view. Our trains are very random & unreliable. It's too bad prices are high.

In Egypt our railway system was built by the British, it started even before the invasion, thus we have two main stations which look pretty similar to this one.
