    I like this over the McIntosh 1900 due to the fact that it has AUX inputs instead of just Tape inputs. I know tape inputs can be used as aux inputs but still. I'd love to have one of these but the prices have really jumped.

    I picked one of these up today off Marketplace that was missing a dust cover. I have an extra dust cover. The feet are shot. It holds speed pretty well but the strobe is jacked up on 33 but not on 45. I assume it isn't adjusting the strobe frequency correctly at 33. I also hear a faint clicking at 33 but not at 45. Gonna have to dig in and see what that clicking is. Maybe it will explain the strobe issue also. Hope it isn't a bad IC. Otherwise, it seems to work. It has a Stanton 681EEE cartridge.

    I didn't like the poor design output of the phono output board int this turntable. As you more or less said the tonearm wires were a bit too too close for comfort to the RCA output cable solder pads on that PCB.

    I think Marantz/McIntosh is a more fair comparison…Stereotech/Superscope (budget McIntosh/Marantz) are more in line with what the manufacturers were trying to do. I had a thing for Yamaha a while back. Had a Yamaha CA 610II that I loved and used for quite a while.

    It doesn't have tone controls because its just a power amplifier so that cant be a negative. Its only job is to amplify what you put into it so you will learn that with any power amp you should use a preamp with tone controls to adjust to your liking.

  • @millervintagehifi3034
    @millervintagehifi303414 күн бұрын

    Why a volume control and multiple inputs? That’s an integrated amp and not a power amp in my book.

  • @jakep8484
    @jakep848413 күн бұрын

    @millervintagehifi3034 it's just a cheap selling point and to idiot proof it, can you imagine how many people would plug in a music source without adding a volume control online and then they have max output only that is distorted and possibly destroy some speakers. Not good for business, a 5 dollar potentiometer makes a lot more sense this way even people new to audio that don't have a proper preamp can at least listening to the music with whatever source.

    Love your video, I’ll have to find someone selling the whole elevator unit, because my dad’s elevator is broken and the needle skids across the records. Plus it makes a clunky sound when spinning around. So might need the springs adjusted or something. But either way I have taken it apart and for a Father’s Day gift I want to fix it for my dad. He has a whole pioneer setup, with a receiver and tape player and a cd player and this record player. I think he got all the different units in the 80s. But thankfully the cd player and tape player both work perfectly. The receiver works great too. Just his record player is having issues. So gonna find the parts and fix it, or maybe a shop in Minnesota can fix it for me.

I have the 420 also, it's highly underrated at 25 watts per channel, but the difference between then and now is the lack of one word, (Minimum) RMS per channel! Could be any number of things...out of spec cap, bad IC chip, bad transistor, burned resistor, broken trace, out of 'alignment'...etc. I would start by trying to adjust it per the service manual. Assuming you cannot (very likely) then it's a matter of ID'ing the bad component and replacing it (pending on availability). Unfortunately it's typically not an easy fix.
