Wow. Nice score. My top thrift find will probably always be the 1954 Leica IIIf with 50mm Summacron I found at a thrift for just $35.

Yeah...unfortunately those days are long gone with shopgoodwill and goodwill selling on eBay.

I haven't found anything worth a crap at Goodwill in about 3 years and I still go fairly often. My SX-780 was my last great find there.

I no longer even stop by one unless I'm looking for something non-electronics related. I scored this one at the Papio location. It was crazy. During COVID I was finding pretty good gear like old-school SONY CD players, decent cassette decks, even a turntable or two (mornally Realistic/BIC/BSR).

That has to be the luckiest find ever. Hard to believe.

Yup...I chalk some of it up to COVID skittishness at the time. I told my son it's like we spent $5 on a scratch ticket and won $1000. Something that only happens once in a lifetime for the casual player :)

Incredible find. I found a pair of Heresys at my local goodwill around the same time, $5 each. I posted pics on a Klipsch forum and literally no one believed me, they think I put fake price stickers on it 😂 Good thing about vintage receivers is when goodwill “tests” them, the bulbs are most likely out so they assume it’s broken and you get a deal.

Looks like I should have hit a couple more Goodwills around that time…maybe I could have scored a nice Linn or Thorens turntable :). That’s a heck of a find as well. I found some Coral bookshelf speakers once, but they were too far gone to repair.

I found one at a yard sale last year. $500. Great receiver!

Agree...I don't know that I would be looking for one given the price, but for what I paid it was a no-brainer.

Very nice video. ˆwas stationed in Guam from 1975 to 1978 and overseas in England from 1980 to 1983. These types of receivers were really good. You have a huge variety of manufacturers to choose from. Prices were not bad for the time. Being in the military the base had actual stereo shops where you could see and purchase them. My first receiver was a Kenwood Model II. Really a huge receiver. I think the price was around $500-$600 at that time. It was actually on the high end of that era. Sansui came out with a 4-channel receiver. It was a high-demand item in the 70's. The price might have been upwards of $1000. Today to buy these vintage receivers you have to pay a fortune. They seem overpriced even ones that have been re-capped. I see a lot of vintage equipment for sale on eBay with high prices. I just wonder if they are selling any with some so overpriced. Those analog receivers had such great sound compared to the ones today. They were all pretty heavy but had huge power supplies and quality metal. Build to last and look good. I do remember seeing your receiver back then. It was really a great receiver back then when matched with the right set of speakers. Enjoy your bargain, that was a rare deal someone missed. I may have to try looking at Good Will stores in the future.

I'm afraid the days of finding stuff like this at a GW or thrift shop (at a bargain) are long gone. I'm retired USAF myself and have had a couple of pieces of gear (see my Sansui 7000 video) that were available to military members only. I think Kenwood Elevens (I, II, III) were also very popular at the time for military members given the friendly prices.

I have the Black version of this. I thought I got a good deal on it for $500 back in 2013. They go for more than that now.😅

This same receiver was selling for 2600.00 at my local vintage repair shop. Honestly it’s not worth that amount of ridiculous money. I listened to a vintage pair of Jensen speakers hooked up to it and it sounded distorted. With the loudness button off very weak and anemic.

$2600 is pretty steep for one of these...especially if it doesn't sound right.

You gave a rating on this wonderful reciever after listening to them by way of Jensen speakers?

Everytime I log on to GW, 0 audio gear, they even email me stuff, all but audio gear😢

Shopgoodwill has stuff, but the prices are even higher than eBay, the packaging is certainly more sketchy, and the recourse if something is broken is a PITA.

    AU777A? AU505? McIntosh 6200? McIntosh 1700? Sansui 881?

I’ll keep my eye out for an AU (505/555/777). I actually have a MacIntosh 1500/1700/1900/6100 in the queue for reviews as well. The Sansui XX1 receivers are kind of rare but I’ll see if I can find one :). It’s amazing what will randomly walk in the door at the shops.

Ok, sounds good. Look forward to your review....I have each of those and dig them all, among others including 9090db (can't believe your good fortune current day, that's unheard of)
