    I’m a continental knitter but with the way I wrap my yarn, all my stitches are mounted with the leading leg on the back, no matter if the stitch in the previous row was a knit or pearl stitch. Is there a name for this „method“/„style“ of knitting? I’ve actually started to do combination knitting, cause in my current project I need to have right and left leaning decreases, to make the lace pattern look the way it’s supposed to look. With my usual way of knitting I always have to stop before a right leaning decrease, turn the two stitches around so the leading leg is in the front, then knit or pearl them together. For right leaning decreases I have to do that on both sides, the pearl and knit side. But at least in my current pattern, I can just do the left leaning decreases the way they are written in the pattern. This confuses the heck out of me!! The main pattern of my current project is worked in stockinette with an integrated lace pattern. I’ve tried to work the pearl row the way most people seem to do (so the leading leg ends up in the front), but that is such a pain!! Now I understand why so many people say, they don’t like pearling 😂 For the longest time I didn’t get their struggles, cause I never minded pearling. It really seems like combination knitting is the way to go for me with this project, even though it means I still need to turn my stitches around in order to do right leaning decreases on my knit rows. But that’s at least half as often as having to do it on both the knit and pearl rows. I think it was in this video what you said, one has to “swap out” decreases while doing combination knitting. Before giving combination knitting a go I’ve tried to find a way to do right leaning decreases while the leading leg is mounted in the back. I spent two days doing research, reading, watching videos and trying different things, but nothing worked out. Do you maybe have advice for me what I can try to get the decreases leaning the right way? If possible right leaning decreases (when looking from the stockinette side) for both the knit and pearl row 😅 Sadly one can’t add pictures to KZread comments, otherwise I could have shown you what I mean…I hope my descriptions were clear enough…

    I bought your learn to knit socks pattern through Ravelry because I am a big fan. The pattern was like all of your instructions, excellent, especially with the videos. I have a problem though, it is very difficult to get my foot into the cuff of the sock in order to put it on, it's way too tight. I used the German long tail cast on because it's supposed to be stretchy and I like it. Even if the cast on was a mistake, the ribbing of the cuff is stretched out to the max. I do not have large ankles, really. What am I doing wrong. My gauge on the body of the sock is 6 stitches per inch which is want the pattern specifies. Thanks, mp

    Michelle - sorry you're having trouble! I'm not sure what could have happened here, since your gauge is good, and that CO should have given you plenty of stretch. Please email me at [email protected] with a photo, maybe getting a look at your sock will help.

    In all my years of knitting this method has always worked. Even when the yarn end is a bit frayed or too short, it works. Thanks for the video!

    My provincial CO wouldn’t “unzip” at the end of my project. Is that because I didn’t do that important final step of knitting across? I didn’t think I had to do that step because my pattern didn’t tell me to pick up stitches from the back of my crochet chain. It just had a link to your provincial cast on tutorial, so I didn’t think I was substituting anything. Please let me know for future projects please. I am literally & figuratively “in a bind” now!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknitsКүн бұрын

    When the provisional CO doesn't unzip, it's probably because you started knitting with your "real" yarn (not the scrap yarn used in the CO) at the wrong end of the provisional CO.

    Keep going until you have just one loop left. Then secure it like you do a normal bind off...cut the yarn leaving yourself about 6 inches of tail, and pull the end through the last loop. Pull the end to tighten.

    I have been a continental knotter for decades. Often hear the ‘ndex finger. Up’ as being fatiguing. I knit this way for hours a day and my fingers are never fatigued. Personally I find Norwegian purl has too much motion, and the less we can move our hands and fingers the better as this prevents repetitive movement injuries. I work at the tips as much as I can, and for the most part knit through the back and purl winding the yarn clockwise Eastern European technique) it keeps stitches even and is efficient.
