This channel will show all the cool plants, fruits, and veggies that we have growing down here in the arid southwest desert called Phoenix, Arizona! ANYTHING will grow here with enough effort, we are going to prove it!
Not funny joke: Maine is a major producer of blueberries. The state encouraged literal blueberry plantations and a pest appeared. Even few bushes a blueberry maggot appeared. the state recommended a pesticide. Farmers used it and the next year discovered the pesticide killed off predators that ate the pest. Yellow jackets are awesome. I want to see more (never been stung a-tall, God bless) wasps and plant sugar cane sorghum because they love the sap. Organic is how to go. chemical diets add too much nitrogen and pests find that sweet. Horned toads love fire ants. When we moved home to AZ, we had 4 kissing bugs in the house in one summer. I followed the Vietnamese plan and after killing them, each went on a fire ant nest, smacked the colony a few times, and saw no more kissing bugs for years. Ants are harvesters, stealing seed and killing it to raise their fungus gardens. A few nests per acre are good. More and they'll wipe out annual plants fast. Rolly pollies eat seeds and sprouted seeds, too. They and garden roaches will wipe out a garden.

I dont really spray my trees with insecticides. most of the time i let the ladybugs take care of aphids or other pests. however, my peaches get this grub that retard growth and rot fruit. So i am at my wits end with that one

So far my cold hardy (zone 8b) grapefruit is thriving. I don't have it in the ground yet, waiting on some more work around the property (clearing of sun blocking trees) before I plant so probably a year from now in the fall is when I will plant my Grapefruit, Lemon, Avocado and cold hardy Banana in the ground here in WA

I recently tried grapefruit for the first time! I think it's now my favorite citrus and just yesterday I was wondering about planting a tree! I love the process of cutting it open without hitting the flesh, peeling away the juice pods from the pith, and getting every last bit. It's sort of meditative 😊

Palm Springs here, actually the north end of Cathedral City (adjacent to PS). Caliche soil here, what fun. Super dry, zero-nutrient pseudo soil here is always a big factor. What about using diluted 30% vinegar to break up caliche? Since much of my backyard is planted, can I use this how far from existing say, 4 year old fruit trees (which are not fruiting)? Yes, I love a challenge.

I’ve I bought my home 6 yrs ago and I didn’t know it till this year that the tree at the end of my driveway that grows like crazy but I like cause it shades me when I have to work on my car is a white mulberry. It’s a strange thing but the tree has grown multiple trunks in a v shape, the ones on one side of the v is just loaded with berries and the other side of the v shape has none at all. It’s leaves are a lot bigger than the side that has all the berries this tree is about 35 ft tall now and I am constantly having to trim it up and it grows new froth from the bottom and gets tangled in my chain link fence. Now that know what it is I’m gonna grown some cuttings and sell them. Does anyone know why one half has the berries and the other size has literally none at all

I grew up in Iran. My house was next to a public park with 40 plus giant persian white mulberry trees. Government there plants fruit trees in the public parks for free community use. I live in California now. I'm planning on planting them here but we have many gophers. That's why I asked in my earlier post.
