Nice and usefull technics, but for weathering with oil for highlight effect, the oil should be applied before ( direct in paint ) or after gloss varnish ? It doesn't affect acrylic paints ???

I just got my Calibre Wings Mig-31 (283/800), so decided to watch this video to understand the engineering and components behind it. I really appreciate these behind the scenes videos. First of all, the weathering and details are great. The execution of magnets on this model is top notch, fits and holds much better than the F-14, SU-24 landing gears. The metal box container was interesting, haven't seen that before. I only have 2 complaints though which prevent me from calling my copy perfect. 1) The pitot tube droops down and has a loose fit. 2) Both canopies don't close flush and the rear cockpit is not aligned properly (a little offset to the left). To be honest, I am a little disappointed with those 2 issues. They may seem small but my OC nature cannot help but get fixated on alignment issues. But otherwise, it's a great model. If I could only fix those 2 issues, I'd call it perfect.

4 isues in fact: 3: the "Blue 09" number on the front wheel door lacks on the extended variant, printed only at the closed front wheel door. 4: the main landing gear - the leg on real MiG-31s is slightly angled backwards, the CW-leg stands vertical. And the realy worse thing: the diagonal linkage from the bottom of the wheel suspension to the wheel well - used for retract and extend - lacks! The main landing gear looks very fragile without the linkages - it's a pity and shouldn' t happen on a USD 280.00 model airplane.

Are you going to re-release this model? I really want a USAF F-16 Viper. I managed to get 87-0265 by Witty. Overall very decent plane (very nice to have the IFF antennae), but the canopy is too long and it ruins the silhouette. Of course the cockpit has no detail either. So I would prefer to get one from Calibre if they are to be produced. And an F-15EX, please (HB is several levels down).

Noel I like caliber wing models. I’ve got quite a few of them in my collection, and I’m always amazed with the amount of detail. I understand you guys did elevate the diecast model marketing; you guys are transitioning it to different levels, and we are all glad to have caliber wings brought new tooling to the diecast market. I think we all can conclude this. One thing I would like to point out with you is that when it comes to the weathering of the model, this is just my humble opinion, and it’s not to criticize. as a collector. We all have different thoughts and ideas, especially when it comes to the weathering. I think that something should be left to the customer, or, I should say, the collector. I'm not sure if the manufacture can satisfy all these different ideas and thoughts. It would be impossible, And not to mention, some collectors like the models comes from the manufacturer in clean configuration, so I’m just trying to point out this precise point. A job well done!

Thanks for sharing this video. I've never seen a QC stream before so it was interesting to see the process. Did I understand correctly that you personally inspect each unit that is produced before it gets packaged? If so, I do admire your dedication. However, I would like to note that some QC issues have made its way into my hands. Not sure if these were inspected by you, but the SU-24 I got had swing wings that were not properly aligned, so it seemed like one wing was drooping more than the other. Also, the F-16 Viper I have has a very subtle bend in its real tailfin. I have tried to fix both but because they're diecast, I am unable to straighten them out. However, the two F-14 models I have were practically perfect, which is amazing because I tend to always have issues with the F-14 from other manufacturers (especially with the alignment of the tailfins, rear stabilizers, swing wings, and pitot tube). Really looking forward to the Mig-31. I wasn't able to preorder a copy, but I do hope I can snag one when it is released.

Just bought my only F-14 and it is one of yours. From what I can see in the photos/videos - great planes, man. Love it that you have a variety of original classic liveries, some of which are just right aesthetically - not too retro or flashy, and not too dull. Hope to see some more of those releases from the 1980s, where the Tomcat was still doing what it was designed for. Hope to see F-14A+ variants from that period as well. I really appreciate seeing some red on the Tomcat. I almost went for the Diamondbacks because of it. The red Tophatters tail would look great (without the black radome and cockpit).

@@pavelkatz5374 I appreciate it, the livery is very interesting. I'm not too fond of Hobby Master though. I wanted to buy their F-15EX and just stopped short, ending up buying an F-15C and an F-15E for parts. Their craftmanship is just not great. Maybe their moulds are more correct than, say, Witty/JC, but the finish is just rough, on everything. Panel lines look like trenches. I would say they are the worst of the bunch out there. Anyway I'm pretty happy with my Calibre Bedevilers F-14A. Maybe one day I'll buy an F-14B. And I only hope that Calibre re-release some USAF F-16Cs Block 50 and make an F-15EX, because I really want one.

magnificent model. This is one of my favorite F-16s made by Caliber. The only problem I have with mine is that the canopy doesn't stay in the open position, The other thing is that those rubber washers could be easily ruined. It would’ve been a good idea for Caliber Wings to add at least one set of these washers with a model. They are so tiny, and if you drop one of them, good luck finding it.
