    Hard to kill the old Vise Grips. I have a few of them in various conditions. Still use them occasionally too.

    I've just bought one of these to see what early digital was like. It is certainly dated in many ways but not as unusable as you might think. It will probably spend most of its time on a shelf, but will get used from time to time even though I have 'better' cameras to use most of the time.

    The nail might have been something that the guy was intending to hammer into a hole made by the auger bit but probably didn’t need it and figured that he could just let it sit in the handle

    I wonder if you buff them up and then clean with denatured alcohol and then put them in a tank with nickel electrolysis if it would make them rust proof and pretty?

    Many years ago I found a Snap-on 1/2" drive breakover handle in a resale shop. It was marked $1.25. I grabbed it up pretty quick.

    Very interesting vid. I have just come into possession of a No.1 and hadn't realised the history of these. I've watched your vid and am trying to date mine. the adjuster has the three grooves but doesn't have the piece inside that would retain a spring. on the front you can see N0.1, the bulldog with 'king dick' beneath it, 'trade' to the left and 'mark' to the right then near the jaw it has 'steel'. Turning it over it has 'abingdon' on the top jaw and the bulldog and king dick on the lower jaw. When you wind it out, on the back of the shaft it has 'c 18' stamped into it. The handle part has the same more curved profile as your oldest one but where the back of the jaws on yours has an overhang, mine are flush. I love it, its very tactile and just carry it about like a fidget spinner winding it in and out. Any idea of a rough date for it?

    Nice finished tool there . I wasnt overly impressed with the ultra sonic cleaners performance to be honest, and this is no way aimed at you personally. Ive toyed with buying one for a while and im betting your works one wasnt cheap and classed as a professional model but after 4 hours id have been disappointed. 30 minutes with some cleaner and a good brush youd have achieved the same result.

  • @NashRathbone
    @NashRathbone17 күн бұрын

    Using the ultrasonic cleaning tank is a very good way of shifting decades of oily and greasy build up on tools, I give them a wipe every hour. Tools get very hot in the tank and are difficult to handle and it can free stiff joints on pliers too. Thanks for watching and leaving your comment 👍👍👍

    Nice find. Shame it is the B version. If it has an A rather than a B embossed on the back then it’s a quick bit of soldering to upgrade the software.

    Can you adjust the tension with the screw at the bottom?

  • @NashRathbone
    @NashRathbone28 күн бұрын

    I am still experimenting with the adjustment of the grub screw but it does have some bearing on how the pliers work. I can find no instructions for these old pliers so I'm not really sure what the screw is there for. Sorry for being so vague. Thanks for watching 👍
