Simplimatic Wrench Review

Ғылым және технология

I found this unusual ratchet wrench at a recent car boot sale (Flea market) for £2.00, it is very well made and for heavy duty use possibly on agricultural machinery.
I have no idea as to its original use but it appears to be Italian in manufacture. It has Simplimatic and Brevettata stamped into the handle.
If you know what the tool is and what it was used for please let me know, thank you.

The handle end was designed for an extension. Either to lengthen the reach or increase the leverage. I have a similar German ratchet.

That's quite a puzzle Nash, hoping someone can help you out - it's a shame there's no date or reg nr. might be able to track it down at Italian patent office listing !

I think it was to remove and install spark plugs in difficult to reach areas. I think the ratcheting end was taken apart by someone who put it back together the wrong way. If you can drive out the pin and flip it around so that the scallops are facing the other way, the detent will probably hold it in a selected position. I remember knowing people who had a lot of trouble getting to the last spark plugs on cramped engine bays and had to remove tires to reach them in some cases and this tool looks like it was meant to get into areas that a straight extension wouldn’t fit in. That’s my guess.

Maybe a quick bath in 50/50, wire wheel, and a look on the interweb to see if you can find a replacement ball detent. Just sayin.
