Hey there, I'm Vimlark (he/they). I make indie games as a solo developer in my spare time. I have a slight addiction to game jams and am working on a local multiplayer arcade game.

Core is completely free and they might end up paying you 😂😂
Really love the concept and the atmosphere is eerie and weird, that's quite nice too!
Thabks for youur come back and what and amazing game!!! You should re-iterate over this idea is such an amazing game
looks promising tho
6:06 wait! that's not a cave! that's a MOUTH!
Such a cool concept for a game. Thanks for playing!
Haha. One!
Its super cool to see you uploading these sorts of videos! I love the friday streams when I can catch them
Havent seen the video yet but if there will be a final bossfight in the muffin game it should be edp445
Its muffin time

Haven't checked in for some time, but glad to see things are well. Really enjoyed this video type and I hope to see more. This game looks like it has some good bones to it as well.
outsmarted by chat moment
Brilliant to see what you made in this jam. It's a shame it was broken but awesome that you've fixed it!
GODDAMMIT NOW YOU’RE SLEEPING!!
Well that would be a hard bug to find during a game jam. At least now you know about this little quirk. Game still looks like it turn out great.
Are you using free trial or pay it? Sorry if its feel insulting
We made a similar game with dogs and several items, looking like an OG Gameboy game and playing like a game and watch game. My buddy works full time, so updating our website has been difficult, but I’m excited seeing your video, knowing that I made something similar with the help of a few friends, having very little knowledge of Game Dev! ❤
it was hard to tell from a video perspective to see if the enemy was one tile infront of you or two, a shadow sprite on the floor might be good for that.
Oh yeah, good idea.
@@LimeBlossomStudio Awesome game though, best of luck with it and future projects!
Pfft,I made pixel art with only 3 colors
I feel like it's almost too hard too see what tiles the enemies in front of you are actually on? Maybe having a light grid surrounding each tile or larger shadows beneath enemies could make it more obvious?
The feedback was great, Vim. Thanks for all the advice you give indie devs, it's always a joy to watch!
I don't know if you've heard it before, but the combat mechanics of your game reminds me of Crypt of the Necrodancer. They had some awesome ideas for enemy and movement that I think would fit in your game as well.
lol 20:05 someone did brought it up
I personally think that this dungeon crawler puzzle game idea is pretty cool. Someone said it in chat, but each combat encounter is like a mini puzzle. Very fun concept, and overall great game
@@maxzhou A soundtrack like CotN would be so cool, too.😃
@@hawkbirdtree3660 Definitely. But I think the dev here is going for more of a relaxing puzzle game feel, which is really different than cotn. The rhythm in cotn makes it very intense and in responds requires the player to make fast and accurate on-the-spot decisions. I don't think this game is going for that.
Definitely needs some new music. If the original creator would be interested, I would be willing to send him a couple of free tracks I wrote to set the vibe he’s looking for.
From watching, I feel like the combat was very interesting and agree it has some potential! Seeing the combat evolve with each new upgrade was really cool. A proper tutorial (Not just text, but game design that promotes teaching) would have gone a long way here. I like the genre this game presents and motivates me to try a game like this one day.
If I want to submit a prototype to it, should it have sound effects, music and decent graphics or can it be programmer art with no sound effects nor music
As a really early prototype like a "tech-demo" you dont need everything you can work with placeholder graphics and music but maybe soudeffects and the core gameplay loop should be in. Because you want to give the community kind of the right feeling what your game will feel while playing when its done.
Alright thanks
Chat decided to be super trolly that day..
Unless your chat is in a VERY good mood to help you, you gotta make the reward of doing what’s intended better than just the reward of pissing you off
Commenting for the algorithm
I've had a lot of fun playing this game, and the devlog is awesome as always!
Bugs can be fun tho 🤷♀️ just sayinnn
But the enemies are so cute, i want to help them :) Also, game jams every other month sounds like something for me so thank you for showing off this game jam :)
Programmer finds bug in code. More shocking news at 8.
Looks fun! Great work as always.
Cute sprites!😁
oughhh, difficulty bugs are killer, sorry that happened! my LD56 submission recently had the opposite problem - we didn't hook up our difficulty scaling system correctly, and it was basically clamped to the easiest difficulty and stayed super boring the whole time as a result. i'm not sure which is worse <w<
WAIT I JUST JUMPSCARED BY MY OWN COMMENT LMAO
...Oh no, that's why it felt familiar... Also, great game tho!
I shouldhave taken part, looks so fun
This is the fairest thing I’ve ever seen. Literally just kept on going “that’s fair”.
The idea is similar to some mobile games I see ads for on youtube, but yours seems so much more fun (I find the ads fun too, just never tryed their games lol)
Not sure if you've covered it anywhere, but have you considered doing a guide to doing your first game jam?
Nice to see vimlark posted a video
ya know how the enemies come into the screen in patterns in 19xx? how would one make enemies do that? the whole pattern thing. ive been wanting to make something like that but the only tutorials are of just random enemy spawns
I never made a game like this before, but that sounds like you need a list of positions, and a timer. Then in a for loop, you spawn the enemy on a position, start the timer, then go to the next position, spawn the enemy start the timer and do that for every position. Of course i only make games in Godot, so i have no idea how this would work in Game Maker or Construct :)
@@Atropos148 thanks, i already figured it out. i just used a tween on a couple enemy spawner objects ,to have the spawners move back and forth on the x. and used a timer for the spawn times
Waohh dood thaatts cray-Z
Very awesome video! Also what is your construct theme?! I NEED IT
This seems like the sort of game you'd find while looking for something to pass the time on F-Droid sorted by newest. I mean this in the most positive possible way.
Hey, programmer of Binary Bots here. I really enjoyed playing and rating this game. I didn't even realize there was a bug making it more difficult than it should've been. This was overall one of my favorite entries for this jam!
...you're either a gamer or you've played too many jam games...
YAY Vim video!
Great stuff !
It's been a while you should make your own game jam
The last vimjam was in september 2023, I'm guessing the next one will also be in september
Very cool video! Will keep in mind for future games I make. Ima go play it now
