Emma's Allotment Diaries

Emma's Allotment Diaries

Allotment gardening for beginners, as shown by a beginner!

I'm Emma and I'm a beginner gardener, working on my first allotment plot in South London. I'm a complete gardening newbie and believe in learning by doing! My vlogs are my online diary of my progress on the plot and I show you the good, the bad and the downright ugly along the way. Watch as I battle weeds, build incredibly unsafe structures and attempt to overcome my fear of nature.

Hi Emma! I just wanted to say how much your videos have impacted me. Your honesty about the ups and downs of gardening, and life in general, has been incredibly inspiring. I love watching how you tackle your problems and try and perk yourself up and respect your own feelings. Your channel is a good reminder to me that we can't choose what happens but we can choose how to respond to it and feeling angry and frustrated at times is healthy. Thank you for sharing your journey, it has been most healthful for me!! 💗

We just got home from 2 weeks in the West Indies. I came home to waist high grass and weeds in my garden beds. They were all clean when I left. So goes the joys of gardening. Did have a large harvest of cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini squash and purple hull peas. Celebrate the conquests always!

Hey Emma, have you considered getting some knee pads for weeding? I am going to look into getting some for my plot, might be quicker and more comfortable to weed that way. Just an idea.

An allotment is like a relationship, and all the emotions that go with it! But for me it is an important relationship good and bad.....also cheaper than gym membership!

Emma congrats on your first harvest! The entire time you were harvesting I kept hearing your voice from your planting vids. You"d say "I don't know what I'm doing" and "it"ll probably all die anyway". Well I'm here to say you were wrong on both accounts. Obviously you do know what you're doing by the looks of your beautiful veggies and healthy plants. Brava to you🎉

Hi emma love the vlogs and love how all your hard work has come to fruitation and i had an idea about the space under the apple tree why donr you make it a herb and flower bed you know basil, sage, oregano lemon grass because not only does lemon grass look nice it can be used for adding to food making lemon grass tea ect and you already have lavender which you can dry and add to a bathfor stress free days or better sleep and make lavender green tea there are also other herbs you can plant that will come back if or self seeds and not only will it fill the space it will also be good for culinary purposes so herbs have multiple uses try it next year it will look good taste good and reduce weeds in that area

Well done Emma you’re a breath of fresh air. I admire your tenacity and creativity in the allotment plots - you go with your (usually spot on) instinct - and it pays off big time. Isn’t it fun beginning your harvest? Worth all the worries stresses and hard work. 🎉

Her instinct s not spot on. She has no idea and refuses to learn from her mistakes. Fun to watch but more like a comedy show.

Hello Emma You plot is absolutely beautiful mixing all the flowers with your vegetables. It’s so awarding to clean up vegi beds. It just so satisfying when you look back at all the work you have put into you beds. So with your carrot rows it would pull all the seed weeds that have come up close to your carrots just be gentle maybe give a good watering then pull them up will be much better when the soils is wet. Because in my experience when I had left the weeds around all my carrot they stunted my carrots growth and the weeds roots I twin with the carrots roots, and can steal some nutrients they the carrots will need to grow big and strong. So I’ve always kept my carrots cleared, and had a great harvest from them all. Just my thoughts that I just wanted to share with you. Hope your having a great rest of your day. See you on your next video.😊

I love your new dahlia! The dark leaves are my favorite. I have one with apricot color flowers. It’s a great idea to plant flowers with the veg. It attracts pollinators. Veg need pollinators too!😊

I’m not sure I could justify putting flowers on an allotment. They’d have to go in my own garden so I could see & admire them every day 🌺

I have flowers in my garden to encourage pollinators. But that's important where I live. Your mileage may vary, of course.
