To anyone gettting overwhelmed gardening - I'd also follow yt channels that do the what to sow this month, and don't loook too hard at other's plots (in person and definitely online) while everything is climate dependent some people have better resources to put towards these things (poly tunnels, heated greenhouses and propogators, fancy heirloom plants, hot beds). comparison is the thief of joy!!

Hey about the sweet peas, I'm in a comparable climate region (The Netherlands) and noticed the sweet peas take a long time to grow. But suddenly they begin to flower and grow. A little more patience may help ; -). Furthermore, keep up the good work! Don't think too much about those grumpy people throwing bad things at you. They are just jealous. I'm the only one in my community with raised beds, all 4m x 0.75m. Bringing new compost on every bed once a year. They don't like it somehow, maybe because they are old and have been gardening for 40 years with the same methods :P

Most likely to be a badger Emma - my friend filmed one destroying her bird feeder the other day....after the spell of dry weather they are getting desperate for easy food sources, and they are heavy creatures which can cause a lot of damage just by leaning on things if nothing else! Keep going...💚

Hi Emma, love your plot and don’t listen to nasty critics, anyone who knows more than you or is more successful than you in the gardening world will give you constructive advice freely, the others just aren’t nice people! I would say though on some sites where people are waiting years, we did, for plots to become available, it’s a bit disappointing to see whole plots with just one or two beds worked. Allotment planners ought to have some small plots or shared plots for people who can’t or don’t want a full size plot. That’s no criticism of you, I think you’re brilliant! 😊

Next year I would suggest growing blight resistant tomatoes on allotments with the potatoes the risk of blight is high, your pumpkin patch looks as though you have got bindweed try to keep it under control you won't get rid of it. Assuming you have bird seed in the little house it could have been squirrels, rats a fox, you could make a heavy duty wire enclosure that the small birds can get through

One of the good/bad things about looking at gardening advice is that you're bound to find one person whose advice is the complete opposite of someone else's, and yet they both grow amazing plants where they are. They would both be right for where they live and maybe both be wrong for the other person's garden. I think that's a key. So much of gardening is dependent on your specific location. Anyway, sorry about the bird feeder. At my house, I'd blame squirrels for the damage, but I don't see many crows here. Other birds, yes, but I don't know crow behavior that well. Squirrels, on the other hand...

Hello, i'm french and live in Elsass (east-north from France). One tips that works for me with slugs and snails is to give them something to eat 😅 i put vegetable peelings on the flour so they eat this and not my growing vegetable. And another tips that works is to grow your sweat beans or sweat peas in little container and plant them in plot when they have several leaves. So they're stronger if attacked 😊

The trick with carrots is either cover them with something ( as others suggested) to keep them moist or pre-soak them to remove the oils or water the row daily until the green tops appear ( after that they can grow without much watering: moderate watering - longer and straighter roots)

It was end September when I learned about that and I decided to seed them out anyway, not expecting anything. Boy, did I get a lovely surprise. That time of year they didn't grow that big, only about 5 inches maybe, BUT IT WORKED. Now I grow them that way all the time.🥕🥕🥕🥕

Carrots prefer sandy soil and it is better to grow them in a deep container like a large bucket or box. I have heard people say you can companion plant with onions. The carrot fies don't like the onions , and the onion flies apparently don't like carrots! As for sweet peas I don't think it has been a good year for them full stop! I've planted three lots now and got barely enough to make it worth planting out!😢 It must be something to do with all the wet miserable weather we've had this spring!
