So many of you wanted to know the reason behind me giving up my allotments which were meant to be my prepper garden to grow loads of veg for long term storage. So here we are! I’m very sad to have to make the decision but I feel it was the safest thing to do.

I have an allotment run by the council, except the council doesn't do anything. They leave us alone and we do whatever we like - perfect.

It’s too bad when someone is in charge like this who has no business being in charge. It just ruins things for others. I hope your home garden is even more bountiful.

I'm so sorry you and your family went through this, Ana. I don't have any allotment experience for potential solutions but I wish you all the best and hope you can really enjoy your own garden this year. And hope you're enjoying your wine. :)

I think the parish council should be taking back control of the allotments. Although the matter took place outside of the council property it is more of a civil matter I would say. However it is relating to allotment matters where you were helping to benefit the allotments with a polytunnel. Therefore there should be a meeting where the matter is discussed confidentially and the council should have the final say on the matter. It’s a very unique situation. However you would and should be able to go to the parish council to discuss this as an urgent grievance towards another tenant. There is an allotment law the allotment acts 1950 that the parish council would have to keep to they should really be serving a notice to quit on the guy for serious breach to their tenancy agreement with a ban if it happened on site. I would file a police report of the incident you can then request cctv if any from where the incident took place.

Moving the Polytunnel sounds about the same as moving The Music Box with Laurel and Hardy

I’m on the committee in our allotments. We really have no “power” over plot holders. This is just something that applies here in Ireland but we pay our rent to the council as it’s their land, therefore our contract is with them 🤷‍♀️ it’s a simple case of consumer law here. I don’t know if it’s the same in the UK so I would suggest you email them and ask that

I haven't commented here before but after hearing the difficult allotment situation, I feel like I just want to say this: take some time out to decide. I'd like to think everyone can keep their allotment. The bees can be looked after. The man with the mental health issues can continue to benefit from being at the allotment. More understanding of the difficulties of being on the committee has increased in awareness. Perhaps the man could step down from being on the committee too and a new election held under the guidance of the council. Things happen and lessons are learned. Life moves on there will be new allotment holders and new committee members, and it will all be forgotten. Seems a shame to give up what you have already invested so much energy into. Your allotment is in good form, we can't always find that immediate justice we seek, just stay with it a while. let the momentum drop.Think about your veggies and take care of them!

Sorry for what has happened but it just goes to prove what I say about communities not working in a SHTF situation. There will always be someone who wants to control things. Try not to let it get you down and hope things sort themselves out.

Ana, In my area, the allotments are owned by the Parish Council, so I would make that your first call, mention about the no dog rule and it's health issues.

Personally i think your better off outta there , the atmosphere sound decidedly dodgy . Now hands up here , i'm not a gardener , but there are certain elements that are beginning to interest me . I don't know how big your garden is , or what you grow , but don't forget you can go vertical with some crops . Look up strawberry towers on you tube , lettuce can be grown the same way , or in pockets along a fence , to my mind many others can be cultivated in the same way . Potatoes grown in buckets , tomatoes grown in bottles , it seems the possibilities are endless . I have even seen an odd ball where tomatoes have been crossed with a potato plant to grow both crops at the same time . I'm not sure if that was a con , chances are it was , but small space gardening seems to be the in thing nowadays . There are in some ways advantages too . Should the sun actually make an appearance (okay stop laughing) , you are on the spot for a drop of watering . You could even pop out for a couple of minutes in the evening to do odd jobs . This could very well be a step forward .

Oh my god, all this hassle just to grow a few veggies. I had one along time ago ,never again to many karrens. It's a shame for you and your family. I built my self a load of veggy boxs with every bit of space in my garden and it's great being your own boss.Take care ❤

Oh my goodness Ana. This is awful. My heart goes out to you and your family. How frightening for not only you but your daughter to have to witness this. It’s stuff of nightmares. You are one strong lady and I think a fighter for justice not only for yourself but others too. Out of any disaster, we can learn something either for the future or about ourselves. I think if it had been me, I may have added fuel to the fire by off loading everything and told them to stuff it, in stronger language unbecoming of a lady; I’m not you thankfully, I have a terrible temper when roused and would have probably exacerbated the situation. I hope you find closure to this soon. Keep us informed of how you get on. Those who follow you feel we know you and care for you. God bless young lady. Much love. 🥰

From the moment you said the guy wanted to sit in the back of the van holding the wood out the back, that was a red flag. Clearly there are serious issues with how they were trying to manage the allotment, an example of a little power going to their heads. I'd say best away from them, except you enjoyed your time there and it had a real purpose for you.
