Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal

Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal

Dr Ali Abdaal is the world’s most followed productivity expert and author of 'Feel Good-Productivity' the brand new book that reveals why the secret to productivity isn’t discipline, it’s joy. In his podcast, Deep Dive, Ali sits down with inspiring creators, thinkers, entrepreneurs and high performers to help listeners build lives that they love.

Ali’s a firm believer that happiness isn’t the result of success - in fact, happiness is the key to success in the first place. Ali made this discovery while working as a doctor in a chaotic hospital ward. In the past, hard work had been the answer to every obstacle in his life. But no amount of hard work was going to combat panic and burnout.

So, Ali dedicated himself to figuring out a new approach to productivity - one that focuses on enjoying the journey and working towards truly meaningful goals. Deep Dive, with its authentic and engaging conversations, will give you all the insights you need to do just that.

I think investors should always put their cash to work, especially In 2024, we'll start to see more market diversification. I'm hoping to invest about $350k of my savings in stocks against next year. Hope to make millions in 2024

Since risk is at an all-time high right now, perhaps you should be a little more patient and return when it has decreased. Alternatively, you can consult a trained financial expert for strategy.

This episode shouldn't be free. The amount of value in this is mind blowing and potentially worth millions. I made time to listen to this podcast by listening to it while driving both on my way to work and home. (I dont work 8 hours, I work freakin' 12) I'm going to be breaking this episode down later on and turn it into notes, and then implement from there. Thank you for this one.

    1. To me two years ago. Keep asking the specialists for updated information. I work as a cancer genetic counselor and have a family history that puts me at higher risk for breast cancer, myself. I asked a radiologist when I was pregnant what I should do about my high risk screening while pregnant and while breast feeding. She told me to do my mammogram while pregnant, but not to do the breast MRI at that time (that is still the recommendation), but during breast feeding, switch it: do the breast MRI during breast feeding, but not the mammogram. I breast fed for a couple years, so that puts me at 1 screen a year for multiple years instead of the otherwise 2 screens (breast MRI + mammogram every year). I talk to a radiologist just after I finish breast feeding and she tells me that they now recommend doing both the mammogram and breast MRI during breast feeding. I did not develop cancer, BUT my sister developed a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosed 11 months after her last mammogram. She missed her breast MRI that should have been done 5 months before diagnosis. She wasn't due yet for the mammogram... Always keep asking. Always keep questioning. Guidelines are changing every year. This is my motivation for my channel. I would also tell myself to start this channel earlier, as soon as I had the idea (I had an unrelated channel I was working on, but this topic is my passion).

Things I've learned: 1) the process of learning in an academic environment, 2) basic project management, 3) how to code, 4) learning languages efficiently, and 5) moving from one state to another without having any connections in the new state. Things I'm currently or want to learn in the future: 1) building my skills as a pianist, 2) music theory and developing my ear training skills, 3) building a website from the ground up, 4) music composition, and 5) writing a book.

I loved this conversation and did do the exercise. But I wanted to take the space here to say I think it’s impressive how Ali and Dickie can both be so relatable despite being such extraordinary achievers. It made me think, would I still value the advice if Dickie did not work at blackrock and if Ali never became a doctor? And the answer is 100%. This was a masterclass on value creation by covering the past 2 years of learnings. And talking 2 years out too. What I love even more is how Dickie created value through curation when he started even though he could’ve leaned into his Blackrock experience. I’d still love to hear Ali or Dickie expand on this at some point though. For those who may not have the super impressive credential or resume item yet that builds trust instantly, does that impact one’s strategy with how they will go about shipping their work? Thank you again for the amazing insights, this bottleneck analysis made me take it more seriously in my journaling. I had been doing this but it felt like a waste of time until I heard Dickie’s full rationale behind it. Made me go from guilty to proud that I’m spending time on this stuff -Misbah

I need "Feel Good Parenting" now! I Love Ali's advice and videos, and this interview didn't disappoint. It's really applicable to entrepreneurs. I've worked for myself for the past 15 years, with lots of highs and lows. I've now got two businesses and multiple channels. But becoming a parent is a game changer. It's the most rewarding experience but so challenging when it comes to productivity and time management. How to balance being a present parent and a productive business owner. So intrigued to see how Ali does when he becomes a parent.

By far one of the greatest dating/relationship podcast I have seen. Matthew explains in a level we can all understand and relate to, explains the different stages and how it might just no work with that person. I'm tired of always listening to pseudo experts or coaches saying all the wrong things like: play hard to get and be a challenge, become a b*ch, make that person obsessed, if he isn't, then he not really into you, treat him bad, be with someone who likes you more. Which I understand where they are coming from, but like he explains, if you only fixate or get stuck on a certain level(s), then you will be miserable and it does come true. So glad I found this episode.

I have been working as a sports journalist at the biggest media publishing company in UK since Jan 2023, there is no good books or articles about how to actually get into the industry, what to do and what to know and where to start etc - but I have learnt all this since leaving Uni. Wrote my first article today, Ali, Dickie and Nicolas have inspired me to start sharing my experiences to help others like I needed 2 years ago in my final year of Uni - and I am going to interview already established sports journos to get their insights and use that as content for substack.

My top lessons so far: - You always have more time than you think you have - The world around you is limiting your beliefs - Make content about what you 2 years ago would love to know - What do you want to know in 2 Years? - Learn it and then teach others through your struggle - Watching Netflix etc. will drain your energy more than working on your dream hustle - Apply your personal touch to some advice from e.g. Atomic Habits - Your ideal client should be able to say with 100% certainty **AI won’t replace you but someone using AI will replace you** - 5000 years ago people already said - Get started - Be consistent - Learn from others and curate other models and then make your own - The coolest people are 1 year ahead of you - we have people 2 years behind us - learn from people 1 year ahead

Realised and learnt these: 1. You will become an expert one day but it doesn't have to be today, and that should not stop you from creating or posting content. You grow as you go 2. Most of the content are repurposed and it's from someone else 3. You are the niche as you apply the learning to your journey and document or share it with others who are behind you, or ahead of you 4. Use both Positivity and some scary thoughts about how the future will be if u don't do anything about ur current situation to motivate you to take action 5. Belief and mindset when correct, generates empowering thoughts, puts you in a better emotional state, encourages you to take action, consistent action brings about the dream life eventually

get rich silently.. yeah that's kind of the route I want to go when it comes to my surrounding "community" basically my 1st degree contacts. I tried but then there's always these 2 things that cross my mind. 1. Before careful who you share stuff with and 2. People don't really listen if you're not in that position of authority. So doing your thing in the silence makes sense. Anyway Ali, thank you for these 5 podcasts that you recommended. Def faster than reading the books. But I'm going to now move to audio books, at least while working I can listen.

I dont like dickie, he just needs to either have guys own original ideas and knowledge OR he really needs to re format, repackage (or something) someone else's ideas and offer his own unique perspective and in sight. His side of this is directly from Alex Hormozi uploads, way too identical. If its going to be Summary of someone elses ideas, it needs to offer different value than the original offered, imo anyways.... Sorry ☹️

    1. Things you have learned in the last two years you wish you could go back and tell your self from two years ago - Most importantly! Don’t be scared to do the thing! Start now and don’t stop! Keep that consistency up cause you’ll wish you kept going! - Keep better track of everything - money / expenses, inventory, procedures, steps you took to learn things, and document the process 2. All the things you want to learn over the next two years - Better systems of how keep everything organized and flowing better in personal and professional life - Learning how to feel like I’m actually accomplishing more in my life and less like life is passing me by - improving my mindset I guess.
