FromSoft games are brilliant. Beautiful. They enchant us to the point of obsession.
Behind the Goldmask: At first, I dusted off my degree in Religious Studies to try and understand what is going on with Elden Ring’s insanely intricate lore. Determined to keep feeding the fire, I've gone lore hunting across the Dark Souls trilogy and Armored Core 6. I also have plans to explore Bloodborne and Sekiro, though Shadow of the Erdtree is going to keep me busy for a while.
While I'm mainly focused on FromSoft games at the moment, I also dabble in girthy video essays.
So if you also enjoy learning about history, mythology, art, and philosophy, with a few memes and some unhinged speculation thrown in, you've come to the right place!

Wi-fi not working to the extreme
Bayle was the one fled placudisax. The dragon girl says it
Now he has legs working so well they got my tarnished ass tweaking for demibussy.
Miquella is giving massive Griffith vibes the more I research.. 🫣
This ending everyone from the influence of the outer gods… this interpretation is very uncharitable o.o Not saying she’s perfect but you really gassed up the perfect order ending. Lol
Wasn’t it told that he was just a big big boy at birth?
"Freyja can't be trusted, she couldn't possibly know what Radahn really wanted" Meanwhile Freyja's dialogues and item descriptions blatantly telling us she was part of Radahn's inner circle of trusted warriors 🤡🤡
I do wish the more Dark Souls style images of some of the weapons stayed in, they looked dang cool. 😅
I wonder what Metyr did to get blocked by the GW
Everyone assumes consort means sex/marriage. It can mean that, but it also means partner. To consort with your enemies doesn't mean to bang them. In elden ring it seems to be used as a partnership. Co rulers but the consort being of lower status. Often, it seems the lords consort is their champion. More like their most entrusted body guard.
Nicely done!! Just got recommended your channel, so I'll have to look back thru the previous videos! I'm still dying to know the answer to so many things from the new dlc, that just doesn't seem to explain some things (like wtf was that 'body' Marika pulled the thing out of...). Not sure there IS an answer to be found on some, but I'm still interested in others' theories about them! So.. I'd love to see a videos about theories that are still yet to be proven, AND would love to see a video all about horn-sent!
Thank you so much! And I hope you enjoy the back catalogue 😊 Yeah, I wish we knew who or what exactly Marika seduced since that would go a long way in explaining what Marika was up to in the trailer. And I am planning on covering the Hornsent! Such a fascinating culture
@@garrulousgoldmask Awesome!! Looking forward to it! :D
I have to say, what a wonderful job on this! Also, the way you say your "r" is so charming! 😌😌
Thank you so much!
What if the cut lore is also "part of" the lore in Miyazaki fashion? He always says his work shouldn't have a strict interpretation or single rigid canon? The 1.0 is the Apocrypha to the current "canon". We can still invoke it.
Still think Godwyn would've made more sense and been more satisfying. The lore regarding Godwyn and even thr Gloam-Eyed Queen was pathetically scarce in the dlc.
I still think Ranni has the better ending over Goldmask. Goldmask just brings an Golden Order 2.0, slightly refined, with more freedom for men. But still with all other issues of before. Ranni upends it all, separating all emotions and desires of everyone from influence the laws of the universe (kinda like in our universe). Don't misunderstand, there will still be emotions and desires. There will still be free will. And people can still effect the world. However they won't be able to change the laws of the universe on a whim. But honestly, I don't think it matters that much. Both are nearly tied for best ending in the game, and it's personal preference which pushes the scale to one or the other. Fia's is also up there, but like the other two, it has it's flaws. And that's exactly the thing: there is no perfect ending. There are a couple of better ones, and a couple worse, but no single perfect ending. Each has it's strong points, things it excels at fixing. Yet each also has it's weak points, things it doesn't, or debatably, addresses. So I'm not judging if you prefer the one ending over the other, at least if you don't judge me preferring Ranni over Goldmask. And no it's not because Ranni is hot, have you seen Goldmask's arse?
Justice for Mohg! Our horny boy, he was Miquellested.
I really appreciate you not spoiling de final boss in your title, not a week had passed since the release and many channerls were already putting Radhan on their miniatures and the whole boss name in their titles. To you I give a like and subscribe for the good content and consideration, to the others a "never recommend this channel to me ever again". Cheers
I think Godwyn gifted Miquella his crown, and Miquella inherited the crown and his dream of an age of compassion. The statue doesn't look like Radahn to me. I think Godwyn was Miquella first promised consort. He attempted to save Godwyn's soul from death with the Castle Sol ritual. But since Radahn stopped the stars movement, the ritual failed, and Miquella and Melania negotiated with Radahn to be his consort. Under Miquella's charm (I think this is done unconsciously by Miquella), Radahn said yes. Miquella was then 'abducted' by Mohg in order to travel to the shadow realm. Miquellas charm eventually wore off for Radahn, so Malenia had to fight against him for Miquella to achieve his godhood.
I believe the first of the scholars is merely talking about the first of the lothric scholars. Also the whole private mentor thing seems to point towards this being pontiff instead.
Also miquella at that time was in body and since there basically only 1 emperian remaining it would only make sense to go after miquella since cause to me only serval of them manage to get chosen but rani would of been the next candidate to become queen or had godywn been alive he would also been a canidate
Miquella sounds more afraid of his ascension since he probly know he'll be bound to the greater will
11:50 red queen have something to do with the idea of Red King and White Queen represented in Marika/Radagon. Miquella seemed to be set up as a mirror to Marika, the passive Mecury to Malenia/ Radagon active Sulfur
10:20 Mohg need to access Land of Shadow is because an Order requires a God and a Lord. A Lord could be anyone but a God needs to be an Empyrean( a claim to godhood similar to the divine right of king in medieval time ) who go through specific ritual at the Gate of Divinity. In normal ending you repair Marika and she continues to be the God of the Order, in the Age of Star you have Ranni, another Empyrean as your God. Chaos ending means Disorder so it doesn't need a God. The other remaining Empyreans are either claimed by a different Outer God ( Malenia) or have been MIA for a long time (GEQ), which left only Miquella. It's a thing in medieval time where you, as a rogue faction, needs a heir who's related to the current ruler by blood to legitimize your rule once you have destroyed the current ruling faction by force. So in a way Mohg and the player in the "normal" endings are similar, both of you want to rule the way you see fit with an Empyrean by your side to legitimize your regime.
What a great video!
Thank you!
Noones talking about how Radahn most likely is a descandant from giants. The whip you get from the Fire giant states that in regards to his red hair, Radagon was most likely a descendant of the giants who all had red locks of hair.
I think the laugh of Godfrey at the end was mocking the tarnished, he fought well, he fought gracefully but he burnt everything to get it his way. The joke being a king without a kingdom
he just manspreads the fuck out of that chair, placing the inside of his thighs on the armrests and leaning forward.
This woman will never stop being dogged on. She didn't realize it at the time but she was creating a timeless meme
Miquella is like the shocking hybridation of Geoffrey and Griffith
the jellyfish has a sidequest??!?!?!?!!?!
Friendly encouragement to work on your pronunciation of R. It’s very distracting and it’s a barrier to listening
It’s clearly a speech impediment you w⚓️
It reminds me of Executioner Smough, I think I recall a fact/theory that attributed his giant size to all the souls he had consumed as executioner and cannibal
So the whole age of Marika and the erdtree wasn't even intended by the greater will, I feel like Marika would have never been able to ascend to divinity had the greater will been contacting the lands between because of how flawed of a person she is
I love the diffrent point of view between jiren and freja. Freja is the kind of person that love the concept of radhan without trully knowing true radhan. she saw radhan badass self at war thus worshipping the concept of war without realizing Radhan join war only when necesary. while jiren is a true friend that just wanted to see his friend find rest...thus he just wanted to end Radhan suffering
Late to the party but such a great video. I like the parallels you drew with Ranni’s ending. I agree that something tells me Radhn wasn’t totally on board. Miquella wanted a compassionate and peaceful world. But with radhan as the consort, I can’t imagine it would be very peaceful.
Is there where all the DLCs dog water lore apologists have come?
It's still dog shit despite of this video, good lore wouldn't need the community effort to fix it. There's a difference between fragmented story telling to just straight up telling riddles that can be interpreted in any way, and Michael Zaki has completely lost his ability to actually write a coherent story.
@@user-wu6gt1gf1c Yeah this is the first time I think he's dropped the ball hard with his lore writing
Godwyn being cursed with deathblight like Malenia with scarlet rot makes so much sense
No, this is poorly reasoned, and sounds like someone just trying to defend bad storytelling. Also, I'd work on the speech impediment bro.
Radahn was tall like Godfrey or Radagon but only grew to giant size due to his rune
Hey hey hey. There’s a pop theory going that the current Radahn is inhibiting Mohg’s body; hence why he’s smaller than the original body (if you put their models side-by-side). Also, there’s an attack of the current Radahn which he creates a red, rift-like line on thin air with his blade that explodes exactly like that one attack from Mohg himself.
Dummy thicc
It was supposed to be Godwyn
What dialect is that? I can only hear store and stores instead of star, stars
I think the repairing cracked pot is a cracked pot theory.
Being the Daughter of the Greater Will confirms that Holy light is just another form of Magic. While Glintstone Sorcery is about extracting the spiritual energy of blue stars, the Greater Will is a yellow star and its spiritual energy is yellow in colour because of this. But at the end of the day, they’re all just stars.
1:50 to 1:55 but I think you're assuming too much; just because Miquella wants to create a "gentler" place and use compassion, doesn't mean that he won't meet challengers. He needs Radahn to be his muscle, much like Marika needed Godfrey, Radagon, and Maliketh.
Retconn is crazy
The Two Fingers collaborated with Marika. They helped her reach divinity, she helped them seal Metyr in the Shadow Realm.
Cant believe Barry Kripke is making awesome Elden Ring lore videos now.
Merry, huuh?
