ALL of the Cut Lore from Elden Ring’s 1.00 Version
Ойындар
I doubt you could even imagine how much got cut.
The Elden Ring 1.00 version is effectively an official rough draft of the game's lore. To access the unpatched 1.00 version of Elden Ring, all you need is a disc copy of the game and a console that isn't connected to the Internet. FromSoft also has a history of reusing cut content, which is why I wanted to get this video out before Shadow of the Erdtree.
In this video, I restored ALL of the Elden Ring lore that was cut by the Day 1 patch, which includes lore for Miquella, Marika, the Albinaurics, the Nox, the Greater Will, the Outer Gods, the Flame of Frenzy, Radagon, the Crucible, the Erdtree, the Greattree, Godfrey, Godrick, Radahn, Leyndell, the Primeval Current, Sellen, Goldmask, Morgott, the Dung Eater, Shabriri, Vyke, Rykard, and maybe even Messmer!
Now to get the obvious out of the way, this is all cut content and is no longer officially canon. So do take the lost lore with a grain of salt. But at the same time, I think it would be deeply misguided and myopic to completely ignore everything that's in the 1.00 version.
Elden Ring's unpatched 1.00 version is also in a very unique position when it comes to cut content. Cut content usually involves content that wasn't intended for the public to see or play. And we only find about it either through datamining, leaks, or candid interviews by the developers. But the 1.00 version of Elden Ring was the retail version of the game.
Overall, the basic outline for the story was roughly the same, while nearly all of the cut scenes and the dialogue were the same between the 1.00 version and the current version, with a few notable exceptions I cover. But so many item descriptions (which form the bulk of the game's lore) were drastically different.

ADDITIONS/WHAT I MISSED FROM 1.00: Since Loretta was an "Arbor Sentinel" and Miquella was the Scion Empyrean in 1.00, Malenia being an "Arbitress" "implies that the earlier story may have been one wherein the Trees themselves were in more direct opposition to one another, the Haligtree being a plot by many demigods to supplant(pun) the Erdtree. 1:09 :23 The Banished Knights are there due to Morgott “One of the two knights known as the Wings of the Storm. After his banishment, he attracted the notice of the *Grace-Given Lord* and later, having slain a hundred traitors as the Lord's hand, Oleg earned the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial.” Morgott is called the Grace Given by Gideon confirming this: “Morgott the *Grace-Given* is Lord of Leyndell, the capital city. It lies at the foot of the Erdtree, in the east of the Altus Plateau.” “One of the two knights dubbed the Wings of the Storm. Despite his banishment, he rejected the invitation of the *Grace-Given Lord* instead keeping watch over a masterless castle for many years, gaining renown as a hero of the fringes” You can also see the Hawk symbol in the Outer walls of Leyndell as well as Banished Knight and Exile knight armor spread across the area (Which is unique to this area, no other place has Banished Knight armor in the ground like that.) Mean they participated in the defense of Leyndell. This still remains true for both versions of the game.

much needed video. When you said Elden Ring is Bloodborne 2 because of the Gods stuff, the DLC proved you right from the get go. My thoughts exactly: this isn't an epic story, it's a cosmic horror one kept in the shadows.
Unhinged speculation. Dung Eater got into the Haligtree for the same reason Malenia, the Miquella knights, the Grafted Scions, Crystaliens, Pests, and Associated Tree Monsters did. The Haligtree isn't a home for those lost or thrown away, it's a location for experimentation on those with no one coming to save them.

I like the theory a lot! Especially with the Misbegotten and the cut lore about the Albinaurics, I could see the Haligtree being a site of horrific experimentation. Thank you so much! A few of these changes have been noted by other amazing content creators but I hadn't seen anyone do a thorough recreation of all of the 1.00 lore. Plus there's also the environmental storytelling and the gameplay itself which is much harder to datamine. Yeah, Rykard having a masochist sidepiece is definitely in keeping with his character. Though I have mixed feelings about him being bi, which I go into in my video on why Elden Ring lore is queer af! That said, getting the Daedicar's Woe talisman in 1.00 was unintentionally hilarious since it's a complete non sequitur to Zorayas’s quest. the thing about the dragonscale blade being a transposed weapon that was made by someone else is so interesting, i wish these games had of that, like the crescent moon sword from DS3 and how its upgraded with titanite scales, implying it was made from the soul of a "boss" that we dont fight

I lowkey love a lot of the "earlier" names/titles. The Red Queen.... Queen in Black..... Enchantress Ranni.... Children of Silver.... The Albinauric Pots are interesting as well. Generally speaking, Albinaurics feel like they might have had a bigger role in an earlier draft of Elden Ring's lore and storytelling. The current one leaves things a bit obscure, especially regarding the first and second generation of Albinaurics (they're...so different). On a similar note, interesting that the Moonveil went from being a "masterpiece of a albinauric swordsmith" to "a Sellian one". The relationship between the Nox, the stars, the night, the moon and what all of those things represent to Ranni is also still obscure in the current game, and I wish it was clearer.
@garrulousgoldmask
Ай бұрын
Definitely! Some of those earlier names are pretty evocative. And I totally agree that it seems like the Albinaurics once had a much larger role in the lore, especially considering their previous links to Raya Lucaria and Miquella. But since the Carians are in the Land of Shadow, I'm hoping we can get some more lore!
After realizing how important pots and vases are in the dlc, I find the 1.0 description of the cracked vase very interesting. Since it’s an item we find only in the lands between, it could mean that some hornsend was living there.
Brilliant as always Goldmask, the 1.0 lore about miquella being the one who would succeed Marika, give some weight in a theory i personally had that, basically Ranni fucked up totally, spliting in two ways: 1-She over reacted to the information of being an empyrean and perhaps thought too much about herself and assumed that she would be the next vassal of the Elden Ring. 2- The snow crone manipulated Ranni to think that she would be the next vassal to push her forward to usher the age of stars, since Ranni was the one chosen by the dark moon, the snow crone while teaching her about the moon, could’ve possibly planted the doubt or straight up told her that her destiny was to be the next vassal, making Ranni push her own agenda of the age of stars forward.
@garrulousgoldmask
Ай бұрын
Thank you so much! And that's a really intriguing take on Ranni! We do know she can act rashly and doesn't fully think out her plans sometimes (e.g. she immediately tells you she was behind the Night of the Black Knives and she didn't expect anyone to recognize her in mini doll form, which...really?) so an overreaction on her part wouldn't be out of character. And I really hope we get more lore about the snowy crone! Such a fascinating character, especially considering her potential links to the occult, spirit calling, and the Carians.

It would have likely been rsnni due to women having more power in the story over men, malenia couldn't be the next vessel of the Elden Ring because of the rot , and miquela was trying to save her and I assume was already planning the haligtree before ranni did her whole plan
@TheAuspiciousGoldmask

@@andrew-rn9ui miquella is a very feminine men, he is probably Saint Trina which is depicted as a woman so this argument of “woman has more power” makes no sense as he himself looks more like a woman than like a men. About what you said that Malenia not being able to be the next vassal bc of the rot is a lie, Malenia was born with the scarlet rot and if she was chosen as empyrean on her birth or after it doesn’t matter, the greater will don’t care what type of order its stablished, only that order remains, gowry himself says that if she was to be the next vassal, she would bring an age of rot.
@professorxavier620

@@professorxavier620 Perfection is not something the greater will look for when choosing an empyrean, is more like the potential, thats why of three, Miquella was chosen, his age of abundance had the potential to unite everyone, as miquella himself care the most about the meek and excluded, he is the strongest empyrean after all, quoted by malenia herself “the most fearsome empyrean” and by miquella loyal knight on the trailer “his blinding strength”.
Some additions not listed in the video: The sky inside the Deathbed Dream is the same pockmarked sky of the Dungeater's ending. The Imps Spirit Ashes refer to Imps as insects. The swords the Imps use are said to be Serpent-tongued, hinting that the Imps served the Great Serpent once. Miquella is called the Scion of the Vision, which, when combined with Loretta's helm saying she was gifted to Miquella by Radagon, implies that the earlier story may have been one wherein the Trees themselves were in more direct opposition to one another, the Haligtree being a plot by many demigods to supplant(pun) the Erdtree. That's much appreciated! Alas, dealing with folks who have not leveled INT IRL is unfortunately an occupational hazard of being a loretuber 😅
It's easy for mistakes in gender pronouns to occur in games translated from Japanese, where their 3rd person pronouns are genderless: Meaning they don't say "he" or "she", but rather "they" for men and women alike. And although it creates a sense of ambiguity when talking about a person, they get by well enough with that method, and it's even used in story telling for surprise gender reveals of yet-to-be-met or androgynous characters. So in some instances, it may not be that a character was meant to be a different gender, but rather difficulty in translating dialogue of a language whose 3rd person pronouns are always without gender.

Just finished the Radagon chapter and the change of the map name and its description says a lot to me. I have theorized that those echoes we hear are not coming from Marika, but from Radagon. Since Radagon is Marika, I think that means sometimes we can inverse their names in dialogue and text. If Radagon was present at Godfrey’s banishment then it would stand to reason he would be able to predict their return, because it was his doing. The echo at the Minor Erdtree Church is also most likely Radagon, and one of the driving pieces of evidence is not just the location of the Fundamentalist Seal but after the dialogue you receive the emote: “Outer Order”. Marika is never mentioned to having any relation with Fundamentalism, so I think we can deduce this to be Radagon’s words. Lastly, I just wanted to bring this up in case you’ve never heard this idea before, but Radagon probably wanted the Erdtree to be burned down. Without the Thorns blocking the path there would be no reason for the Erdtree to be burned, using the Law of Causality he created a cause that would have a predictable effect. And we can look to your channel name to see why he may be opposed to the Erdtree: a mask in the image of a blazing golden halo, the original power of gold, a star in the sky that comes and goes. It’s the sun! Excellent video, only a half hour left for me!
@garrulousgoldmask
Ай бұрын
Yeah! I've also been toying with the idea that at least some of the echoes were said by Radagon instead of Marika. The one at the Minor Erdtree Church especially, for the reasons you mentioned. Plus "Marika" there wants to increase their "understanding of the proper way" and says "those blissful early days of blind belief are long past" and we know that Radagon was an INT FTH build. And since the Mimic's Veil exists, I could even see Radagon disguising himself as Marika. I also think it makes a lot of sense that Gideon glimpsed into the will ("dying wish" in the Japanese) of Radagon given that having the Tarnished struggling unto eternity would prevent them from becoming the next Elden Lord and replacing Radagon. I didn't think before that Radagon was the one to send Godfrey away! That's a really fascinating idea and offers a very compelling explanation for some of Marika's (seemingly) contradictory actions. Hmm, I haven't actually heard the theory that Radagon wanted the Erdtree to burn and tbh I don't see the motive there. I see him sealing off the Erdtree as a way to preserve his form of the Golden Order, which is clearly in rough shape, both physically (*gestures at the Lands Between*) and metaphysically, since the current incarnation of the Elden Ring is lacking multiple great runes and is held togethaaa by Radagon's trellis-like rune. And in classic dramatic irony, his resisting change precipitates the prophecy of the burning of the Erdtree to come true. In any case, I definitely think that the Erdtree has supplanted the power of the sun (pun intended).
@JackisaMimic
Ай бұрын
@@garrulousgoldmask I come to the conclusion that he wants the Erdtree to burn because he is opposed to the Erdtree. A Golden Order Fundementalist sees the world through Causality and Regression, a mathematical view of the world. In that view there is no need for Free Will, just Order, you are a culmination of a series of causes and effects. Who you be and how you will act can be predetermined mathematically. One of the ways I come to this conclusion is the Golden Order Principia is based off of Newtons Principia which doesn’t state that there is no free will but is a mathematical understanding of how the Christian God made the world, but mathematic none the less The other is that Goldmask is clearly a sun worshiper, and so are the rest of the Fundamentalists. I go over this in my Godwyn video and my Eclipse video, but the TLDW is that the imagery of the Discus of Light, Rings of Light, and Goldmasks Mask(as well as the mending runes) are all shaped like the sun And the sun is outshined by the Erdtree, thus they would want it to burn

@@garrulousgoldmask Radagon using the mimicveil to impersonate Marika never crossed my mind but that is brilliant! Silver Tear Mask - To imitate the imitator is a cunning play indeed
NOT THE RANNI JAR
I dont think Marika was threatening her kids, but indeed warning them about how the system works, but the one tied to tgw, not just the golden order. Because she says "become a lord, a god.." A new god would imply a new order and probably eradication of rivals, siblings. Same cycle repeating. When Marika says she'd look deeper into the golden order, maybe this was her conclusion and that led to her trying to destroy the elden ring and break the cycle or wheel, like grrm likes to write about. And like many of his characters, she fails..kind of, depending on which ending you choose. She did open the way for someone else to succeed.
1:11 :14 maybe they changed the music because the roundtable hold we are familiar is not in leyndell but maybe in the shadow world?

56:00 - the dialogue is also present in the current game. The current lore of him and the cinematic trailer shows that he's the veiled monarch of Leyndell and him putting down the crown is essentially just showing that he's picking up disguise. So I guess his many titles were just a result of bad/unfinished translation.
@garrulousgoldmask
Ай бұрын
Oh sorry I should have clarified that that dialogue is in both versions. And I like the idea that he was putting down the crown to don his disguise as Margit. Since he's the Veiled Monarch, I also think he was using the Mimic’s Veil before Godrick ran off with it.
What a great, thought-through, and carefully researched video. And thanks to the KZread algorithm for the recommendation, I guess. I see you have quite a hidden gem of a channel here. 👌

On the Great and Erd topic. I am of the belief that the Great Tree is a plant similar to quacking aspen. That is, a single plant that is a forest. The Erdtree is literally a stalk grown directly from the Great Tree roots. Godwyn’s deathblight was the impetus for severing the Erdtree from the root network. All the Minor Erdtrees are part also just more stalks of the Great Tree. The older “trees” of the Great Tree were cut, burned, petrified, or otherwise killed.
@garrulousgoldmask

I like that theory a lot! The aspen also seems to line up with some of the iconography we've seen of the Tree. I'm really intrigued to see how the Shadow Tree fits in with the Greattree...

@@garrulousgoldmask we will see soon! I do also sometimes loop in a theory of what the Fingers are with this. I suspect that the Two and Three Fingers are highly modified root-like limbs of the Great Tree Root System. Being a Crucible touched organism, I imagine the tree should have developed the traits of other organisms. Plants show their Crucible traits different than what animals do. I list Miranda Flowers, Land Squirts, and Land Octopus as “crucible plants.”
@garrulousgoldmask

Oh that definitely makes sense! The Fingers emerging from the earth also reminds me both of Ymir from Norse mythology and Ziostorm’s mushroom theory. And I've actually been working on a video about the Land Octopus since they have a lot of surprising connections with Miquella! I had a dream last night that there was an eye piece item in game that allowed the player to see through Marika’s veil from any point on the map and revealed the shadow tree. Like how the Umbral Lamp works in LotF
11:58 this is really interesting with Malenia being the red queen. Marika and Radagon seem to be loosely inspired by the alchemical Rebis, which is depicted as a combo of the red king and white queen. So maybe Miquella and Malenia’s relationship was meant to flip the roles, with a red queen and white king. Unfortunately, this would further reinforce Radagon and Marika’s children’s afflictions being the result of incest, so it might even actually make more sense 😂🤷♂️

Thank you so much! It is wild to see how much got cut but got added back in over the course of development. (E.g. the nomadic merchants had a whole quest line with Kale, then there was almost nothing about them in 1.00, then the current version added some of that lore back in.) So I'm really curious to see what gets re-canonized in the expansion.
What if the cut lore is also "part of" the lore in Miyazaki fashion? He always says his work shouldn't have a strict interpretation or single rigid canon? The 1.0 is the Apocrypha to the current "canon". We can still invoke it.

@@andrew-rn9ui Sekiro is pretty linear, I think that may be a part of it ... but yeah you're right, it's just a straight forward story.
The roots at the foot of Elden John resemble highly those tentacles coming out of Rykard's severed head and the insides of the iron virgins as well the womb like area in the new DLC trailer has those same tentacles that I posit were originally hands. Rykard is kinda doing it Marika style. Where he's devouring everyone to make a "family". Family and lineage is one of the top 3 significant themes of the lore I think.

Interesting! I've actually been looking into the land octopuses since they have some bizarre connections with Miquella and they could also line up with roots and tentacles. Definitely agree that family/lineage is a major theme of the game! I'd also add identity (soooo many doubles) and vision (both literally with eyes as a motif, but also in the metaphorical sense of envisioning a new order).

awesome breakdown. I remembered reading Meteorite 1.0 and not realizing it had been cut out...I really like that it made a distinction between ordinary Meteorites and Stars, which is clarity I think is still in the base game but far more obfuscated than it would have been. One of the things I wish hadn't been cut, but maybe they wanted to distance the Nox from the worship of Meteorites as those are what ultimately led to one of their societies' end.

Thank you! Yeah, I did like that distinction in the 1.00 version and how it adds another layer to both the Nox and how space is viewed in the game. Apparently, we're gonna get some new Gravity spells and more space magic so there's a chance that can get re-canonized!

the way it calls miquella the scion empyrean makes me think he's a offshoot like millicent, gowry makes it seem like she could be a rot goddess, what is also weird is how he wants you to betray her to make the transformation more potent, with the talk of betrayal in the trailer makes me think is it necessary? and did miquella betray melania for her to give in to scarlet bloom the first time, she seemed to have lost parts of herself like her life was shattered also the haligretree is in fact 2 trees, one with the brace that is probably the one they talk about failing but you have to climb down a much bigger tree to get to it! a tree currently dripping in sap, how was the erdtree a success when the time it dripped sap was short lived, but the haligttree that's currently dripping is a failure? the erdtree not even real lol the weird dudes with the big heads n gold horns are up in the canopy of the tree that we first climb down, we are told they come to the place of a new age, my theory is that the tree didn't fail and miquella is still cooking up a plan i'm just now realising its kinda in the shadow of the halietree near the bottom is always kinda dingy their might be unrelated, but why would only the erdtree have a shadow?

The 1.0 translation of the ghost talking about the mausoleum really lends credence to a video I saw last week by Zayf The Scholar, where he talks about a theory in the Japanese lore community that our "tarnished of no renown" starts the game off inside a walking mausoleum and could actually be a bastard demigod of Marika. One who she extends grace back to as everything has stalled out. They break down in the video that during the opening cutscene when our "tarnished of no renown" is being introduced, you can very faintly hear slow heavy stomps, echoing otherworldly bellows, and a loud bell. All of which are sounds the walking mausoleums make. Check it out if you haven't! It makes this 1.0 lore fit in a fun newv way
