Jackie Ding - PhD Racing

Jackie Ding - PhD Racing

I used to race cars... Now I just moan about wanting to race cars, while driving, fixing, and breaking other, slower cars. Silly shenanigans ensues! Follow along for some supercar-chopping, AE86 building, S2000 Racing, and a lot of messing around and more. Enjoy!

The numbers look stupid not centered in the white space but resting on the bottom. Hire a livery designer next time. Doesnt look good sorry. S2000 looked much better

    have less air in the tyre cause it looks like they got stone hard after some laps,the heat blow em up & make em even wors,,its a real beauty you got,might bee have a less nice car with a fast engine,and race with,so you not get worry of smashing and dent the car,thats a heavy xtra weight on your shoulders,you got the car control,thats for sure

    When you mentioned the car is geared too short for Gingerman, may I ask what transmission and final drive you're using? I have a similar project, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to be miserable with the final drive I've chosen.

    Do you have someone helping with the rear suspension/strait axle tuning? I know in a different video you mentioned redoing the rear link mounts at some point. The way it appears to be handling looks similar to a lot of the issues I worked through with my cutlass. Getting the rear geometry figured out will transform the way it drives.

    All of that chaos at the start of race 2 was caused by car #89, the blue/white bmw who decided he was playing gran turismo and used about 5 cars ahead of him instead of the brakes to slow down. Thats the #1 reason I stay away from competitive wheel to wheel. I've seen my fair share of that bullshit and I dont work endlessly on my car to have some dude with more money than brains crash into me for a hobby.

    If you can get the rear end to hook, you might be able to fight with that old tin can. You may be able to do a decent lap with a car that loose, but you can't place it well mid corner or maintain pace on a compromised line in the pack it's going to be a tough go. Grip looked a lot better on the third race. Dropped rear tire pressures? Sure looks fun!

    In addition to my other comment, I watched your setup video, a day of testing wasted where your lap times did not improve at all. I wouldn't have returned to the track without making big changes to change the balance of the car. Oversteer before the apex is just bullshit. I don't know how someone can build a circuit AE86 so badly. It has all been done so many times before and there are proven combos that just work.

  • @MotoWot
    @MotoWot8 күн бұрын

    OK, it all makes sense now. I watched the video of the car in the workshop where Jackie said the car was already over-steering but changed to stiffer rear springs for more over-steer. Jackie Ding, you are a fool who is not serious about circuit racing. BTW changing springs is a dumb way to tune roll stiffness.

    I am perplexed by what I just saw. On one hand, you seem to have a competitive mindset, want to do better and have some driving ability. On the other hand you car has an Instagram Setup (looks good in photos but is slow and drives like shit) and your approach to driving it is all wrong. Persisting in driving a badly setup race car is an exercise in turd polishing, you are using your driving skills in an attempt to make it look better, but it is still a turd. You are giving away so much lap time that a well set up 4AGE AE86 on 195/50/15 tires would probably be faster around that track in both dry and wet conditions. You say you want to improve as a driver - a good driver is both fast and consistent, you are currently neither. Fan boys who have no clue are easily impressed by someone who can control oversteer, but really it is a basic skill that is easy to master. People who have experience and knowledge of circuit racing just shake their head and look away (when they see a driver consistently oversteering) because they know you are not serious. I guess you have a KZread Driving Style to go with your Instagram Setup. Your fan boys probably love it.

    Hey @jackie or anyone else, when you/he catches himself in a low rpm range, esp coming out of a corner, but not worth the downshift, I think hes dumping the clutch quickly like in 28:50, why is that, would you not upset the car or the balance by jolting the drivetrain or causing traction slip when it reengages? If someone could explain that would be awesome! 29:56 god i feel this, im in a duel in time attack with a ND who gaps me on every straight ive never been more humiliated

  • @PenguinScotty
    @PenguinScotty7 күн бұрын

    It's an old trick people use when dropping out of the power band but down-shifting would be too slow or not beneficial. Essentially, by stepping on the clutch, it allows the engine to rev up, higher into the power band, then dropping the clutch will give a "boost" because of that, pushing it out of the engine "lugging" at lower RPMs quicker than just staying flat. Hope that makes sense.
